The Oculus Go with Elite Dangerous

CMDR Exigeous has a YouTube video out on using the new Oculus Go with Elite Dangerous:

For me the interesting snippet of news was that the Go uses 1440p display panels. Led me to wonder if we might soon see a Rift headset using the same panels.

Though whether my humble 1070 could drive such a thing if it did come out....

I definitely have to agree with CMDR Exigeous. The Oculus Go is indeed amazing. I'm doing it for three weeks now and honestly for me it leaves nothing to be desired for now.

Resolution is on par with the HTC Vive Pro and you can also relax in your living room and watch 3D movies from your personal Plex library. Try this with a Rift.

For VR in ED, I don't really care about 6DOF, as you are sitting anyway. Ok once we have space legs I might reconsider but we all know how many VR equipment generations this is removed 😄

But for now, the feeling of being part of the game is incredible. And at least for me, no nausea whatsoever. So I definitely urge you to check out the Oculus Go...it might be the easiest way to experience VR in ED right now.

This having said, here come some additional tips to reach this kind of experience:

- Set the texture resolution of your Go. See this video:

- Set the video resolution in ALVR to 2880x1440.
- And use HMD x 1.5 quality in ED

All of that combined will give you incredible resolution. 1280x1440 per eye. Text is absolutely readable, and you can even read the text on your in-game HOTAS and keyboard (good to know that we still have a Ctrl key in the 34th century 😄).

Oh jeez....just watched this comparison of Rift, Vive and Vive Pro in ED:

Go to 5:50.

My setup given above with the Go is definitely so much better than the Vive Pro in this video. No idea whether the guy has bad capture quality 🤔

The Vive Pro looks much better than that when wearing it. Through the lens videos are pretty worthless in honesty.

I`d like to try out a Go with ED - what kind of performance can i expect running it with a Surfacebook 2 13" ? (8th Gen i7 + NVIDIA GTX 1050 2GB) ??

Thanks for any feedback

No idea with VR, but I used to use a SurfaceBook 1 i5-6300U + Nvidia GeForce GPU (via a dock) to 2x1080p screens as 3840x1080. (Medium quality, 25fps on planets).
