I remember when e4 was listed as in development on the frontier site with the release date TBA... what was that, err 4 years ago? so since were going backwards in development timescale... I believe that E4 was released before the computer was invented, and therefore no copies were ever sold, which is a terrible shame!

Thats funny, they are to 2 games I'm waiting for.
Really it is. I remember playing a lot of Duke3d and Frontier at the same time back in 1995-97. I would go for both, but if I had to chose I would go Elite4ever.

As a new member to this forum, I want to ask the same question everyone asks in their first few posts, but instead I will ask this for the benefit of all new members (now and to come):
Could you (anyone) please give us the latest info on Elite IV please.
Maybe there is info in other threads but trying to wade through 11 pages of threads for the latest info is a nightmare.
Please reply in this thread about the latest news on THE game we are all waiting for.
Newbie posters can then reference to this thread for the answer to the question.
If you know where relevant info can be found in this forum please mention it here.
Any help would be grateful.

There are quite a few posts regarding this subject and as far as I know the official line is that there is not yet a set date for the game release.
Frontier have a number of projects in the pipeline as you can see from www.frontier.co.uk not the least of them being The Outsider. From previous discussions and interviews with David Braben we have found out that many of the aspects of The Outsider are as much testing grounds for technology to be used in E4 as they are integral parts of the game itself.
From what I understand The Outsider is somewhere between 12-24 months away from release and the Elite 4 Dev will not begin in anger till it The Outsider is out. On the positive side I seem to remember from one of the David Braben interviews that some precursor Dev work on E4 has begun.
Have a good look around and make use of the search function as there is plenty of interesting discussion going on around here and the people here are brilliant. To top it off the Frontier team periodically drop in to comment and give us some tid bits of info to keep us interested.
You do make an interesting point tho Alien, it might well be worth making an FAQ and getting it put up as a Sticky. (If you read this Michael is this possible?)

What about the game "The Outsider" becoming "Elite 4" just two days before the publishing via a name change?
That could work out and cool down the biggest pressure on this game company though the promotional impact would be annihilated...
Welcome to our planet and the forums! I wholeheartedly agree, there should be a sticky put up. Play.com are still saying June as the release date, but they must be wrong. Perhaps they mean June 2010?
Anything is possible, though it would be a very short sticky.
The current state then: David B has indeed stated that Elite IV is meant to be released on current-gen platforms and that it is due out after The Outsider. We have at this time no other comment.
I realise that this is not necessarily what you want to hear, and I can appreciate that. I am looking forward to Dragon's Age myself (RPG in a fantasy-setting, developed by Bioware) and I have been cursing the lack of information from that project so I know how you must feel.
So I wish we could tell you more, but it is a hard balancing act. If we talk about things to early and it turns out that it didn't make it into the game, then no-one will thank us. Likewise we are conscious of accidentally generating too much hype, because we want the game to live up to the promise that we will make. For reasons such as this we are not talking about how far along Elite IV is, or even if we have started on it. And for the same reasons I can't even hint at when we might begin talking more about Elite IV because that would in itself be a kind of annoucement. You can ask David B of course (since he could choose to tell you), just don't expect him to.
What I can say is that once we make the announcement we will try to keep you guys much more up-to-date. At such a time a suitable FAQ will be published as well.
Oh, and regarding Play.com - we have no idea where they get their information from. It is a company that I have often used and I find then to be quick and honest - as long as you choose to ignore their stated release-dates as they often make these up.
Yeah I always expected that it would be but it would certainly reduce the number of incidences of "So what about that Elite 4 game then?"
I don't think it needs to be overly expansive but coming from the official line is certainly not a bad thing.
