 See we've been rumbled :D

I know, careful you never know whos listening :D

I'm saying we (forum members) all want something named after us but Frontier probably won't do it.

I think that if we did do a kind of contest with "name a star/nebula/station/whatever" as a prize then it would also be with the understanding that we would have to work together to come up with an acceptable name - or rather that Frontier can veto a name, explain why and ask the winner to try again.

I can easily think of a few names that wouldn't make it past the legal team or the filter for rude words. Localisation into other languages would also have to be considered.

Hi Stefan,

Really hope (as we probably all do) that you guys at Frontier do decide to go ahead with this.

For me just the thought of having my name on a space station/planet/system etc... would be unbelivable to say the least.

I honestly can't imagine anyone choosing "no"!

Well I nearly chose no but decided against it at the last minute. Didn't want to spoil your 100% 'YES' result! But my reasoning for voting 'no' is simply that if someone is working on updating a blog it means less work is being done on the game! ;)

You can see the devs now:
'Ok todays job choices are......
Seamless atmopsheric transition.....
Realistic blackhole damage and physics engine.....
Antigravity physics engine in space stations.....or
Erm, updating the blog. Hey that sounds easy enough, lets go for the blog option!'

;) ;)

There's a great developer blog for Fable 2 over on the Lionhead site, so I think it can be done well and it's great for druming up interest.

I'll be blunt.

Personally, I think withholding information (beyond the odd scrap) about a possible new incarnation of "Elite" is a slap in the face for all fans of this magnificent series.

Harsh? I do not think so. How long has it been since "Elite IV" was first announced? How long has this forum been here? In which time the "Elite/Frontier" section has been by far the most popular (rhetorical questions).

David Braben is, for me, one of two true masters of computer gaming (the other being Shigeru Miyamoto). As a film buff I'd equate him to Stanley Kubrick, and Shigeru Miyamoto to Akira Kurosawa.

However, with each passing year I lose a little respect for David Braben. Unlike the notoriously secretive Kubrick, Braben's medium is technology, computers, the Internet. This is the ideal place for him to communicate his ideas and embrace his fanbase, the people who have been with him for well over 20 years. Yet what do we get for our loyalty? Nothing.

All I ask is that you give us something concrete, there's no need to divulge every detail, but you've left us hanging for years.

Do your fans mean so little to you? If so just close this forum, as the endless conjecture and sycophancy isn't doing anyone any good.

I agree. Give us a little something, just to have something to hang our hopes on.
I don't mean to be rude but at least show us, the fans that you, Frontier Developments care. To actually hear from Mr Braben himself would be a great honor, something that would brighten our dreams for the future.
Show us what you mean to implement in the game and let us know what of ideas that might be useful in the game. Get a discussion going, ask people what they would like to see- tell us that you are following the thread Ideas for Elite 4 - that would be so nice.
Just don't ignore us, thats all.

Thanks for saying what I've been thinking.

I honestly think the problem is that there isn't anything to divulge at the moment, rather than some plan of keeping stuff secret. I hope I'm wrong though, 'cos then E4 may be closer than we think

Unfortunaly there is no such thing as a divulgent of information just for the fans - the moment we post something here it will be all over the web in five minutes, and probably being scrutinized in detail.

Plenty of game-projects have failed or run into serious trouble because they made a poor first public display - and I, nor David, nor anyone else at Frontier wants Elite IV to join that group.

So for us, not divulging something is right now a matter of necessity and not something that we do out of habit. Historically I suppose it is fair to say that Frontier has been a company that keeps silent and that is something that I hope will change. When the time comes we will look at doing a dev diary etc, but only when the time comes.

I am not going to ask anyone here to be happy about it, but I do hope that you can understand.

...sycophancy isn't doing anyone any good.

I think it would also be nice to both not think so little of the fans of Elite that their notes of admiration and/or offers of support are nothing but sycophancy and to perhaps approach the subject of David Brabens reflection on Fans as more considered than scornful.

I personally find the inferrance that any of the people here expressing their thoughts is sycophancy as quite offensive. These are good people here and they are enthused in a mutual subject. I don't think there is a need to be derogitory about it.
