Great thing about Elite (& Oolite) is that there isn't a wrong way to play. Do you what you want it won't be wrong, you want a docking computer just get one! I remember being desperate for a docking computer but my brother wouldn't let me buy one until he had the larger hold, fuel scoop and beam lasers. I suppose his advice stuck with me because when I started playing Oolite that's the path I went.

I want to hear the Blue Danube again :D

You know , I am starting to realise how unwise it was for me to borrow credits from the Shady-Black-Monks since I had gone from 14 weeks to 4 weeks in two sessions of play.

Time passes quickly when you use Witch-Space travel a lot.

I would have thought that it would slow it down, but that not the case.

Unless my game is bugged.

There is one thing that may save me.

As I had picked a fight with some of the Black-Monk ships and before I got killed, one of them damaged the Holy-Homing-Beacon they had actually placed on my Cobra-Mark-Three.

If I can get that damaged in a fight and survive, they may have more difficulty locating me when they want their Credits back.

Not sure I want to update my version of Oolite.

is the new update worth it ?

Thoughts ? I looked at the improvements list, I also see there is a SSE / X64 version. Whilst I am on a 64 bit OS there are no speed issues running it on my i7 laptop so I thought I'd leave things be for a while.

Oolite 1.77.1 is all about minor bug-fixes, and the SSE/x64 version is an improvement (which you may not notice).

Has the sound engine improved since the last 6 years?
Back in the days i stopped playing Oolite because the sound experience was pretty weak.

I.e. You couldn't hear sounds differentiated left - right, the engine could only be triggered to play a sound, not where (directional) to play it. Shots coming in always sounded like they hit one spot. A ship passing on the left couldn't make a sound. Etc.
No 3D sound support either

Some things I don't understand or I can't use properly.

When using the Witch-Space Fuel Injectors the amount of exhaust increasing distinctly changing from blue to purple.

When using the Thru-Space-Torus-Drive the exhaust disappears completely.

Is this right or a bug?

If it isn't, then why is it so?

When using the Commodities Screen while docked I find that unlike the original game. I have no control over how many commodities I can buy or sell.

I just highlight the item/s and press enter and it will either buy as much as you can afford, then buy as much as you can carry, if you have lot of credits and cargo space, it will buy as much as they have for sale.

This way of buy is quite handy some of the time.

Though, other time I would like to control how much I buying by simply highlighting the item/s and pressing the + or - key to add or subtract item from my cargo hold.

The same things happen when I am selling.

It will just simply empty my cargo of the commodity completely when I am highlighting the one I am holding.

The main problem is that when I am holding cargo bay filled with 14 cargo canisters of Narcotics which I had purchased from one world for 54 credits per canister and would like to sell for at least 90+ credits a canister on another world. I have also purchased 21 cargo canisters of food from the same world for 2 credits per canister. Filling up my cargo hold completely.

I fly to another world and dock, I am able to sell my food for a profit because it costs 6 credits per canister here. I empty my cargo hold of food selling it all.

The narcotics are about 7 credits per canister here. Making it a huge loss if I try to sell them here. However at that price and with a cargo hold almost half empty. I am very eager top buy more narcotics here and be very likely to make a fortune off them anywhere else.

The only problem is that there is no option to hold onto the narcotics I already have while trying to purchase more.

What it actually does is that it sells my current hold of 14 Narcotic cargo canisters at a loss to me before replacing them with other narcotics I wanted I to wanted to buy there.

Is there now way around these options?

Is there a button I failed to press here?

Am I using the commodities screen correctly?

I think I have forgotten to use this properly or this section of the game is not like the original at all.

Even if I was able to buy the extra load of Narcotics while holding onto my original load. I doubt that it would allow me to keep them separated in my cargo hull in case I wanted to sell them separately.

In case I wanted the sell the Narcotics I brought for 7 Credits Per Canister at a world where they coast 30 Credits Per Canister and wanted to hold the Narcotics I brought from the original world for 54 Credits Per Canister.

Am I missing something obvious here?

You have full control on how many commodities you buy and sell. You can buy individual or in lots. I never use + or - to buy cargo lots. I'm sure you had a look at the manual of course I can;'t remember top of my head what key it is. Pretty sure it is just left and right cursor like the manual says.

Have you tried some of the OXP like the market trading assistant OXP ? It gives you extra columns so it keeps track of what you paid so you don't need to write it down and can even auto trade things for you if you so wish it.

Thing is the trading assistant does not seem to be there. I know it is on SSC (Space Sim Central). hmmmmm

The witchspace burners change colours as you say and with the drive.....you got me there I never noticed.
As far as filling cargo and not wanting to sell, well, welcome to the world of trading. ;)
Sounds like you are not selecting the correct cargo item to sell if I read your post correctly. You can of course completely control all of this as mentioned.

Commodities: Left and right arrow keys allow your to buy and sell 1 cannister at a time.

Exhaust colour: Handwavium explanation - as you increase speed more quirium fuel is injected into the engines and as such it changes the colour. Perfectly normal. Infact, you can change the standard colour with a custom ship OXP. Mine has a green exhaust at standard speeds changing to yellow and then a deep red (I think) at higher speeds.

Tricky have you written any more OXP's ? I loved your one, Jaguar Company.

There is a mini update for that, fixes a few bugs. Not quite ready for a proper release.
Jaguar Company v2.5r29
Just a few more loose ends to tie up like the texturing of the sentry ships around the base.

As for other OXPs, I have one called Zoom Camera. A bit like the telescope oxp but without all the clutter. Just a simple zoom in an zoom out. Need to brush the cobwebs off of that one and create some documentation for it.
Preview - Zoom Camera v1.0 (WIP)
