Zac: The base Python is kind of viewed as a good jack-of-all-trades and so the Python MkII was created to actually specialise with a bit more focused intention of really being able to compete with some of the best PvP ships in the game, so primarily the Mamba and the FdL and that doesn't mean that we know how you guys work. Yes, we're sort of balancing it around PvP - that does not mean that you won't be able to figure out a different use. I'm sure that there will be people that use it for exploration.

Arf: We were talking about this earlier. One of the running jokes between all of us that work on Elite is: we have a plan for something and then we give it to the community and you do something totally different with it.

Arf: You mentioned PvP focus, is there anything coming up that players might be using PvP more for?

Zac: Yeah, good question, I can't go into too much detail quite yet but we are going to give people more reason to engage in PvP in Powerplay 2.0 and hopefully the Python MkII will fit quite nicely with that.

Python Mk 2 a PvP ship and PvP as a greater focus in PPV2....
Game changer, its either going to attract some PvP folks to make up for us PVE folks who will ignore it, or its the death knell for Power Play.
Really happy for you folks who wanted it though (y)

Given the Python is the mission runner of choice, having the Mk 2 a peer (or near) PvP ship would hint at PP V2 needing a tough delivery ship....
Yeah really curious how they roll this out. Also if/how its integrated into the BGS. Wonder if there will be a weighting system if PP/BGS is carried out in Open.
As someone who is genetically allergic to PvP in any form I admit to a wee bit of trepidation. But then to echo what others have said: nice for those folks who have asked/waited an age for something to reinvigorate the PvP scene etc. The new Python will defo be an addition to my fleet whatever use I find for it!

Well as Robert points out with the quotes PvP has an actual role but is not everything- so it does beg the question as to what that is.

"More reason" (to me) is not saying its all Open- as a guess perhaps the idea of weighting has come back.

Well to reiterate the point of my thread that got closed:
What if they made Titans only able to be damaged in Open Play?
Well let's think about it? Perhaps some players when they go in fight against Thargoids just want to fight ONLY against thargs. You know with ships optimised against thargoids, instead of some PVP murderboats. I know, certain people might think this somewhat as antisocial, but well, some players do not like certain kind of "emergent" gameplay.

Well, it would certainly make the war last a lot longer...
Although it was fun to hear of some PvP players, who were not (allegedly) interested in dealing with Taranis gaining the attention of an Interceptor or 2, I wonder how long they lasted against an enemy that doesn't play by the rules?

ETA: I wasn't there, so it is only hearsay - but if anyone was, and would like to comment, I'd be interested to hear the opposite 'side' of the tale.
