The Open v Solo v Groups thread

I don't get it. Most "griefers" aka gankers are chasing a kill count scoreboard. Seems like this helps them lol.

Which, if you think about it, is pretty sad, especially for the leaderboard itself if it counts ganks against sidewiders.

If i was running such a leaderboard of PvP kills, i'd want it to be an expression of skill. All kills would require a video of the kill, showing the target ship and that they actually put up a fight.

Again, its just an expression that at least a part of the PvP community doesn't really care about skill or getting good or anything else they like to protelize on the forum, they only want to get their ganks on.

Heavens forfend they actually seek out challenging opponents to fight... they might get their paintjob scratched.

most do seek out challenging opponents. the problem is a lack of challenging opponents. The game currently doesnt encourage players to actually get better sadly, and people with attitudes like in this thread dont help either.

Ah I see, so you want to play in open without actually playing in open, having to build a good ship, etc.

Open minus people whose "skill" is shooting people as they exit a station is still Open.
It's also pretty nice 👌

And thanks for the chuckle, " having to build a good ship" never gets old. I'm sure there's a T9 build somewhere that can survive a meta Python II for more than 10 seconds.
And carry 8t of cargo.

I wonder if it would be possible to have a "no pvp" flag or something attached to your CMDR/ship/person/avatar etc. To clarify, you play in open but, if flagged as "no pvp" another player cannot open fire on you.

Those seeking challenging PvP could organise "events" where they could fight challenging opponents flying challenging builds. Why should a CMDR spend time and effort in developing skills and fly a combat ship when that aspect of gameplay does not interest them?

Sadly, some CMDRs believe that they are entitled to have other CMDRs be their game content and are vocal about it. I have encountered CMDRs who will destroy other CMDRs inside a station, just because they can. That is not challenging or good gameplay imo.

God forbid you give up one optional slot

Precisely. PvP players seem to think they're the only ones who don't have to organise the play they want. Everyone else just gets on and does it.

I'm waiting to hear about "Distant Ganks 3". Last time (DG2) they were so desperate to find unarmed opponents they were willing to fly to Sag.A.

I'm not seeing a build that would my T9 live long enough to high wake against all those hilarious PAs/Pacifiers and whatnots.

Let's start with 4 PDs so maybe I don't take a Containment Missile to the ass this time.
4 pds???? no wonder you die. put on one, dont fly in a straight line, class 6 prismatic, 3 shield boosters, with some engineering for more cap and resistances and you have over 1000MJ of effective sheilds vs all damage types.

Why? There are a lot of PVPers? Should be really easy to make PVP match between willing opponents. In reality fight between specialised killing machine, and ship that can actually do other things it is always a losing position, at best commander piloting other ship looses some time. Assuming both pilots are somewhat competent. Basically it is PVP tax on ones time.

I have read that PvP between matched CMDRs (or even partially mismatched ones) is a slugfest which is not very interesting to those that like PvP. The time for a kill is long, and before the coup de grace, the one losing is able to get away, so no boom at the end of it.

The reason the pvp community slowly dies until nothing but bored gankers are left is becuase the game fails to put players into organic situations that come along with the games actual gameplay.

I love doing actual piracy, but if i do it, it has to be purely for fun because it benefits me in no other way. Im pledged to archon, the pirate king, do i get merits for priating? for selling stolen goods? decent credits? Answer to all is no. And its difficult to do well, on top of all the other issues like having to bump stop NPCs which is janky af, and players logging, etc etc etc.

How about powerplay pvp? does the game create dynamic situations where organic pvp can occur? nope, why? see this thread. BGS, same. add in instancing on top of it too.

So whats left when the itch for pew pew hits?
1. try to coordinate pvp meetups (which has all the same scheduling issues of a dnd game) that takes us away from whatever else we were doing at the time (shocking i know pvpers play the game too).
2. Go where the player hot spots are and just shoot at whatever is on the radar.

The solution is for the game to give pvpers more meaningful ways to pvp so that #2 isnt the most common option.
