The Open v Solo v Groups thread

I have to make an effort outside the game if I don't want to rely on sheer luck and probabilities that are probably set against me.

I've never felt like I was required to do this. There are certainly less people around than there were in years past, but there are still enough that I can find people entirely in game for most activities I'd be inclined to do. There are at least a handful of people on my friends list (the overwhelming majority of whom I have never had any contact with outside of the game itself) who are online at any given time. Failing that, I can still go to population centers in Open and usually get a response from strangers in relatively short order.

Were mines as a defensive weapon not nerfed years ago? I recall reading that running and deploying mines to hit a pursuer was an effective tactic. That was years ago.

But engaging in PP does not need CMDR ship to CMDR ship fights. If there was no such activity, PP would continue, the lack of such would not be noticed except by those wanting PvP.
It is absolutely noticed by everyone, regardless of interest in PvP. For an example of that, check the discussion on whats currently happening in Sol.

As i said, if you engage in powerplay you are competing with other players. powerplay doesnt work without them.
Yep, As Sandro directly said in the video "At its core of it , it (Powerplay) is players working in teams against other players in teams"

About a minute later in the video he goes on to say about how if you sign up to Powerplay you are consenting to PvP when you play in open and that is "one for the books" to quote him directly.

... kindve sounds like PvP to me (indirect & direct). Also just to note whenever he says 'consensual PvP' he means direct, because consensual indirect PvP isn't a thing ( "excuse me guys, is it OK if we undermine your systems this week?").

Not nerfed directly. They changed the NPC behaviour to stop them running directly into mines if they could avoid them when they were chasing you.

Shame, it was a good way to make some bounty money while trading rather than just running.

its probably still possible, but you have to ensure they are close behind you so they don't have time to dodge and that puts you at more risk of being caught in the blast, and if you've engineered with the radiant cannisters and other effects, you could end up killing yourself in the process.
