I'm sure you are not trying to draw anyone into a set of definition posts..........after all that might be baiting and causing unnecessary instability to the thread wouldn't it ? We wouldn't really want that. :)

Perhaps there can be some gameplay worked into this where a player can make moral decisions about whether they are willing to go down that route.

Just as piracy is pretty much a moral choice, one can be allowed to choose whether to be a good slave driver or a shady one. I'm thinking many scenarios here, even some being that slave traders buying cheap mistreated and underfed slaves in the black market... could potentially nurse them back to health in some bio pods and then sell them off as forced labor pleasure slaves. Of course there should be a rating system whereby it would prohibit just all slaves being sold at premium pleasure slave prices. It could depend on health status, age, gender (beautiful girls attracting a higher price than a beautiful man of the same age) and so forth. It would make for some interesting gameplay options and also have a bearing on your reputation.

I can just imagine it, huge raids on passenger liners for the purpose of slave driving. Or pirates masquerading as humanitarian aid or free transport on planets with massive social unrest and war or famine.

There is a DDF Archive thread dealing with slavery here and here, and to be honest it's actually well thought out.

In all of the known galaxy slavery is illegal, apart from in and around Imperial systems whereby it's legal, but under certain conditions.

"Citizen" is a much higher class than "slave" in Imperial society and conflating the two would be like me calling you "an animal" just because you're neither a mineral nor a vegetable.

Then again all these traps in Imperial language are clearly just a scheme to keep people humble under the Emperor's thumb.

Well apparently according to those links there will be 2 types of slaves: Imperials and Non-Imperials and 3 grades of slaves. Pleasure, Brutes and domestics. My take is that these are fairly distinct in the imperial systems. But I am more curious in the process on how a normal citizen rescued from a pod can be turned into a pleasure slave or brute or domestic.

This is a marvelous idea, when the "walking in your ship" expansion comes out the more crew types and interactivity with everything the better.

How do you enforce that in deep space 4 months travel to the nearest human outpost of any kind?

If I'm going to explore deep space for several months, I will take no a slave girl. This would not be enough. I'll take a Harem. I think with a Panter clipper, I'll have enough space (I'm kidding of course, finally I believe ...)

Bear in mind that they chose that lifestyle as a much preferable way to pay off their student loan than working 15 hour shifts at foxconn making ipads.
If they were going to say no they would have chosen a different way to work off their debt..

anyway, that's my last word as I can see the opening swirls of a circular argument....

Nice to see that the idea of wanting a companion while traveling isn't seen as a big deal any longer.

And I guess dealing with the possible result of such a companion might just be the next natural step ;)
