Now we’re onto week 5 of scenery packs, these next 2 weeks will have categories that are exclusive to scenery packs.

March 29th - April 1st
Category: “Best Themed Pieces”

Choose the scenery pack that has pieces that represent its theme the best. Nothing to do with animals, nothing to do with how useful the pieces are, just focus on if the pieces match the theme.

Ironically enough for me its probably Twilight.
I might not enjoy the heavily themed stuff but there is no denying that the Twilight Pack chose a theme, ate and left no crumbs.
Gothic castles, pumpkins, spooky dead trees, there is nothing in this pack thats doesnt fit the halloween vibe, like in other packs you almost always have a few pieces were your thinking "cool piece, glad its here but its doesnt really match the vibe" like the garbage and cardboard in Tropical or the oil barrel in Oceania.

After thinking about it i really got a new appreciation for the Twilight Pack.
If the halloween theme was really needed has everyone to deceide for themselves, but one has to respect on how well it delivers on that theme, imo atleast.

Id say tropical, the indonesian theme is straight fire and was sorely missing from the game with lots of unusual pieces that work great into recreating the special kinds of buildings and especally roofs you find in that area.
Its also one of the few architectural style where it actually brought something in that was genuinly hard to do with the ingame pieces, so thats a big + aswell

I am a massive sucker for Christmas, when the season roles around I have a very unhealthy obsession. The arctic pack decided to do Norwegian/ Scandinavian/ Viking scenery, which doesn’t vibe with it well.

Twilight however is what it feels like when someone takes a bite out of a candy-corn pumpkin. I find Twilight is truly the most themed of all pieces too, Oceania is a beach vibe, Indonesia and South America are two different jungles, and conservation is just behind the scenes.

I’m gonna give it to Twilight it’s theming might not be the most useful, but when building for Twilight you know what you are getting into.

Also, it is really funny we have the dlc/ themes to do Halloween and Christmas at the zoo, but the game time moves so fast I would decorate my zoo and in 5 minutes I am already past October/ December.

My Ranking of the scenery packs by their adherence to a theme:
Best Themed Pieces
  • Tropical: The scenery was beautiful and I thought it fit its niche theme pretty well.
  • Europe: Given how much variety they had to work with and yet how happy the players were, I'd say they covered the theme pretty well.
  • Conservation: I thought the theme was creative, and although it had fewer pieces, there was a lot of stuff to build zoos with conservation/gardening in mind.
  • Australia: The theme was interesting, combining upcycled materials with aboriginal art. I kind of love it. Maybe it doesn't cover all facets of the region's architecture, but I've heard and read about Australia's admirable focus on conservation and sustainability, the the upcycled part of it wasn't surprising.
  • Africa: It was nice to get some North African/Middle Eastern stuff. Some of the pieces seemed a bit random, but it was very nice.
  • Arctic: It was a weird mix of Nordic buildings and Christmas decorations. It was kind of strange together.
  • Twilight: I thought the composition of this theme was a bit weird. It brought Romanian/gothic-themed architecture, which I suppose is associated with witches and haunted things, but that region is not among the few that celebrate Halloween. I loved the cave stuff, but I'm not sure how that was relevant either. I liked some of the Halloween decorations and thought they were a bit funny, but they are a strange depiction of Halloween decorations that I typically see. For accurate Halloween decor, I would have expected pumpkins/gourds, glowing jack-o-lanterns, candles, corn plants for mazes, scarecrows, cobwebs, fake skeletons/tombstones, spider/snake props, empty cauldrons, a witch's broom, chrysanthemums, and some red-and-black vampire/gothic furniture. I'm sure we have a reputation for tacky plastic decor, but this was a bit much even for us. I kind of like the idea of Halloween decorations and found the eyes and mushrooms interesting, but the theme together seemed a bit strange to me.
  • Oceania: I thought the theme looked a lot like tiki bar party stuff, and I remember some people from Oceania complaining.
  • Aquatic: The stuff is highly useful, but it doesn't seem that centered around a theme. Maybe New England/nautical? I couldn't really tell.
  • South America: The piece seems to be more generic jungle stuff than an accurate representation of SA architecture. I like it and find it useful, but it didn't really match the theme.

Twilight

Il do my brainstorming. I have used every build and every theme at least once
Arctic: making Nordic houses can sometimes be fun
SA: I only use the ruins theme
AU: it’s good, haven’t had a whole lot of use for
AQ: while I’ve used the aquatic theme, I don’t know if I really like it. I like the railings, statues but the walls etc not so much. This was the only dlc to include murals, frontier a lot of us loved the murals and were hoping for more.
Af: the North African theme is cool, wish there was some kind of roofing
EU: I haven’t used the European theme much as most of the presets include more material from other builds
Con: nice, I am unable to make backstage areas so I haven’t used their stuff much.
Twilight: here and there I’ve used its builds
Tropic: no onpinion

Torn between Arctic and Twilight
Coin flip winter: Arctic

Second category of the week!

April 2nd - April 4th
Category: “Most Useful Pieces”

Don’t need to really explain this one as this is what everybody usually judges the scenery packs on, vote for the scenery pack with the most useful pieces.

Conservation, if i deleted every habitat in my zoo that has conservation pieces in it, everything build post conservation would be deleted, they are that good.
From the back stage props to the beams to the flowers, all of them became integral to my builds and there has been no other pack as influential on my building style as this one
