Standard refuels every time. I turned off the shields, distributor, data scanner, and turret to conserve fuel when I wasn't using them. I had the throttle pegged most of the time, only pulling it back when the terrain got very rough or when I was sightseeing. Again though, the salvage stops really slowed me down, lots of time spent there shuttling cargo back and forth to the ship.
Circumnavigationing a planet/moon is something i have thought about doing since the release of Horizons, but always been a little scared to actually do it. But this and Nick Sticks thread have been an inspiration, and as of now i have atleast started this journey.
Target i have choosen is 366km Rocky (with little bit of Metal) moon over 7000 ly from Sol. Marker points my starting location (inside a crater, what is inside a bigger crater), and circular target is my first greater waypoint). Second picture is a flyby shot to give a better overview of the moon (i have left some interesting features offscreen
, to be honest system map surface map preview doesnt do a justice to this moon)
Day 1 is done, here are a few pics:
First day drove 53km. Might start my own travel log thread on exploration forum - depends how actively i will continue to log it (most active scenario is a pic or two per session).
Target i have choosen is 366km Rocky (with little bit of Metal) moon over 7000 ly from Sol. Will probably turn left since i have drifted too much to the right. And will probably follow along the canyon to see where it leads (and keeping an eye on the surface map to not drift too far from waypoint):

Bravo Kris, I salute your endeavour. With 53km down and ~2250km to go you're starting out on a pretty epic journey, and on a beautifully scenic planet too by the looks of those screenshots. Keep us posted re: your progress (even if you're only going to post occasional updates I'd recommend starting your own thread - you'll never forget this journey and it's nice to have a permanent record of it).

Yup, got to admit that Kris' screenshots just make me really want to be doing that again. I've got a 3.0 todo list a mile long but as soon as I've ticked off a few of the more interesting items I think I'll be headin back out.

HALT! That wasn't me! That's CMDR Timmy Brabston's video. In my haste to make sure people saw his awesome tale, I neglected to make that clear. I'll edit my post to make that clearer, please edit OP to give the right CMDR credit!

Right now i keep it a secret. If i can drive around it (so far day 2 and enjoying it greatly
), i hope i can also get a "discovered by" tag (for moon, don't care for system). But this will probably take 2-3 months, and over 7000 ly (from SOL) is not that far from bubble, so i will not take it as granted and honestly it is not THAT important. But right now keeping name of the moon a secret.

There are several stations now on that route that you should be able to stake your claim with rather than going 7000ly back to the bubble.
No, tried to avoid most obvious travel "roads".
Discovered tag is not that important, so not sweating over that. If it comes, it comes, if not, then not (and big props to those who scan the whole system with all the planets and moons). But atleast now keeping my odds as high as i can
