The Planetary landing and planetside missions discussion Thread

The happy people don't really help much apart from moral, but the moaners and thinkers, we are the task masters, always wanting better and more, it's what drives industry, and FD are of the same mind set, always want to do better! Sometimes those things can be achieved easily, sometimes they need hacks that work in the best case scenario, sometimes RD is required to produce something unseen.

When it comes to Vistas it's pretty straight forward, you have what you want to achieve and where you are in the current process.

(Bolding above mine) You are quite full of yourself, aren't you?

Your sense of entitlement and slightly overinflated ego aside, I would like to differentiate:

  • Moaners are rarely good thinkers
  • Positive, constructive criticism is very useful. I do see some of that on the forum, but rarely from the moaners
  • Happy people provide a lot of feedback and ideas on the forum
  • Doom criers, moaners, whiners, trolls and the manically depressed simply poison the wells

I am quite pleased with the visuals on the screenshots, btw. Certainly there is always room for improvements - I am certain they will arrive during the Horizons season.

It looks good for lifeless planets imo. Planets need much content variety to keep it interesting in a long-term. Such as you can visit 10000 planets and find something different on every one of them.

Some planets should feature extreme terrain like gigantic mountains and steep valleys.

Its called a barren, rocky, airless planet for a reason, I suppose. I reckon that, aside from geology, most of them will look like the picture. Brown/grey, dusty, generally inhospitable. I wont expect any great surprises from these planets.

I also think the bigger variations (read: problems) come with planets with life on them. How they manage that without encountering the 'only 5 variations of space station / city' problem will be something FD will be thinking hard about.

Not pessimistic / optimistic, I am well into the 'I'll see what happens' arena.

It would be nice to at least have it configurable as to how effective you'd like the light filter to be from max (as it is now) to none at all although you would effectively be handicapping yourself in battles near bright light sources.

There are modifications that can do things like this, but yes, some kind of ingame ability to control this would be nice.

"...debris wreckage even crash markings on the ground something to beef it up a little..."

In a half buried wreck. Looks fine to me. I could imagine this represents something which has been there a while with some detail buried.
I think you're reading in too much of the story you want told, not the story that's being told.

"...Developers love constructive feedback on finished products, or things that we might have released for testing by the player base. Sneak peaks, unless confirmed as finished versions, are not something to be nitpicking over.

The devs know the direction they want to go..."

One of the reasons for carefully choosing when and what to release so the enthusiasm for finishing isn't shot to dust because certain technical considerations don't fit someone else's
expectations. What might be seen as an attempt to hold someone's feet to the fire ends up burning them at the stake.

Landing on Earth ?

Hello everyone, I would like to ask you :

It will be possible to land on Earth when the Landing expansion will release ?

If yes, it will be the real scale ?

Thank you. =)

Not in season 2 but when we can land on atmospheric planets (and gain access to Earth) yes, it will be 1:1 scale.

Earth seems like a massive task to undertake, considering its vast population and the fact that we are familiar with it. I'm sure there is a fair amount of topographical data available, if the game engine can use such information for generating surface detail. I'm kinda hoping it is, because I would love to land on Mars, or fly through its canyons, etc.

Making populated planets...I don't even know how they will approach that. Big undertaking.

Earth, well, by 3301 a plenty of it is different - geographically and otherwise. Nonetheless, huge undertaking to not come up with something underwhelming. Will be interesting to see how they implement the projected/predicted landscape changes and such.

Earth will have changed a lot after more than a millennia. And lots of earth likes or terraformed worlds have huge populations they will have to display somehow.

Already mentioned using their experience with kinectanimals for wild life etc.
Very big undertaking - but not impossible.

I think this won’t be available in the beginning. It will be quite challenging to create the content for an inhabited planet like Earth. Perhaps some message like "Landing not permitted due to safety regulations…" will appear when closing the entry point.
