The Planetary landing and planetside missions discussion Thread

indeed, lots of talk no show.

As credible as the description on Kickstarter

Don't get me wrong, David Braben is one of my heroes, but ever since the AMA Q&A's where he basically didn't answer a single damn thing other than to give vague affirmatives about stuff we already knew, I've pretty much given up on getting excited about anything he says. He should run for government :)

Wish there was crossplay, oh well. But it's understandable that updates need to pass stupid console bureaucracy before they are allowed to patch the game on a console lol.

"that stupid bureaucracy" has its downsides, but to be fair it is not all bad.

whilst bugs still make it through as a general rule games on console have WAY fewer issues than on PC. This was also the upside of charging devs to patch their game. iirc they got 1 "free" patch fix and the rest they had to pay for on the XB360.

I read cosplay on the first pass through that sentence :D

I suspect the reason this isn't happening is because of how the multiplayer stuff is handled on XBONE. AFAIK, MS have provisioned a certain amount of Azure capacity for XBONE multiplayer. It isn't P2P like it is on PC, and that Azure capacity is not available to us, so presumably they're effectively in a walled garden.

Awesome news! Maybe this will stop all of the whiny entitled threads that have been popping up, demanding for apologies and so on and so forth!
(Scrolls down the dangerous discussion forum)

Ahhhh I guess not.

Why would it stop anything? We were told nothing!

We already knew planetary landings were coming one day. We still don't know when!
We already knew walking around your ship was coming one day. We still don't know when!
We already knew the rest of the 30 ships were coming. We still don't know when!
We already knew Thargoids were coming one day. We still don't know when!

What exactly did we hear in the interview that is exciting news? Did I miss something?

I like surprises personally speaking :)

I've checked with the journo on Twitter whether DB actually said 3rd person for walking around or whether it's a mistake and it's 1st person. I'll reply when i get an answer.
Good let us know as I would prefer 1st myself.

lol +1

Hmmm that's an interesting theory, Does this mean Xbox gamers basically have to pay for a free service? (Xbox live) when all other platforms would be free for multiplayer. Well all i can say is "sucks to be you" to that xbox player.

You need the Gold account for multiplayer but can play Solo with the free account. (Much like Destiny which also required a constant connection to the server even in Solo but was still free and needed Gold for MP.)

To quote the article "There is more free stuff to come, but I don’t want to pre-announce what they are!"

Would this perhaps be referring to the CORE GAME that is still missing completely, devoid of life or underdeveloped? Or just more gimmicks like Powerplay?

Welllllll in my experience most P2P on PC sucks rather badly, compared with dedicated servers. Look at the battlefield series in recent years. The netcode is awful. Compared with CS back in the day, it feels very artificial. So, one could argue XBONERs get some of the best dedicated server provision in the gaming world for a fairly paltry fee. Again, assuming my recollection of the way this works is at all accurate.

I don't really know why they would separate the two. Usually it's done because people with M/KB have a huge advantage over controller using players, but that's not the case here.

I think relevant to this might be the question. Are micosoft servers p2p or standard? Is it possible to play in the same instances between two different server structures? I really don't know.

Yes but that is assuming that FD have completely overhauled the games netcode to be suited to a more traditional client-server architecture, If i'm not mistaken, FD can't afford this client server architecture and I highly doubt Micro$oft is paying FD a slice of their Xbox live account subscribers lol.

Well, that raises an interesting question about how devs pay MS for this server provision...or if they pay them at all! After all, it is in MS's interests to have the best possible multiplayer experience out there. And they charge GAMERS for gold subscription, so perhaps they're taking the hit. Azure is their platform after all. I mean, how much of it do they REALLY need to set aside at any given time? There was talk of "more computer power than existed in the whole of the world in the 90s" at one point, and discussion about how it could be used to enhance the games themselves - like a cloud computing platform for your physics or AI maths. Many people doubted the veracity of these claims at the time, though ;)
