The Planetary landing and planetside missions discussion Thread

Sad too see that the Kinect won't be used for head-tracking. I can't understand why not, it's a woefully underused part of the xbox and is still nothing more than a gimmick. though I do like using it to pause netflix with :)

Ok, my question is what is it that makes you happy?

What will make you smile?

Content? this is planetary interactions.

What could they possibly do that will be any different then any other game, every game is the same because of the way humans see life, do this to get that, you want a story they put one (PP), the next then that happens is people call it a soap opera line up....really don't just be negative toss all of us your solution, your vision, then watch as people troll it to death then you scratch your head in amazement as they complain about no original ideals, I put a few out, got shot down, I now shrug and say ok then we will have to see what we get thrown and accept it.

Go to the bulletin board and have a mission. "Missing person, help needed." You sign up and are patched through to an NPC who you can ask questions of. You need to visit the last known station visited by the missing person and there you get a new contact. This contact tells you where they were headed next. You go there and discover that they didn't arrive. So you do a few scans and track down the ship, but it is being attacked by pirates! You must fight off the pirates but your target's ship is damaged and you must find some needed modules in one of the nearby systems.

Returning with the modules you transfer them to their ship. and wing up with them to escort them to their destination. Once you arrive safely, after several more interdictions along the way, they entrust you with their secret. They were actually coming to collect a secret, experimental module and the pirates weren't actually pirates but spies from the opposing Power. They ask you to deliver it to the secret research base...

Etc.. Content, not gimmicks.

Most of games on consoles uses peer to peer for local combat afaik.

I'm more than happy to take your word for it, but I do remember MS bigging up the use of Azure for dedicated servers before the XBONE was launched. Obviously whether games want to rewrite their netcode for the platform is going to depend, but this does come up when people talk about porting the other way around - i.e. from the new consoles back to PC. As you say, ED has appeared rather quickly, which would suggest they're just using the same netcode they have on the PC version.

All One games use Azure for their multiplayer, unless the game in question has been specifically written for peer to peer or uses another set of servers (such as EA for example). Peer to peer on XBL is pretty much a thing of the past (with One games anyway).

FD uses servers for matchmaking - as they are used for ED on XBO too. Local combat is peer to peer, nothing changes there.

How do I know? Because they would have to rewrite colossal parts of the game to do server/client. Judging by how fast ED appeared on early access XBO program, it's same code as Windows, with new things patched in for controls. They don't even have CQC yet.

So this then answers my previous initial question, Xbox gamers ARE paying for a free service if they go into Open XD

^ This is what the game needs ...depth - not unrequested, tangential "features" like space-risk or elite:wipeout.
Read the DDF, frontier. Many people spent a lot of time and effort trying to help and it is a goldmine of ideas. Once you've got the game working and up to the promised standard then go on to the paid expansions.

Hmmm because maybe it is early to give a piece of information that will end up being inaccurate and therefore pointless? Wait and see.

Frontier cant win ...

If they say we are getting this and that, and they dont deliver = Forum rage
If they dont say anything = Forum rage
If they deliever what said they would , but not to everyone's expectation = Forum rage

Basically if you make a game like this and involve the community in it at a early stage, at some point you will get forum rage ..

Damned if they do .. Damned if they dont ..

I think they should ignore forum reaction and be just open and tell what they can and want. Artificial 'won't show anything till ready'...but mostly we don't ask for showing, we know actual stuff been shown very closely to release. All we want to know some tasty details, some interesting stuff they think about. During 1.2 and 1.3 it was actually very fine, dev updates interchanged with Sandro posts...that was perfect format. But it feels that for last three four weeks they have felt silent again and it feels that they think they don't need it anymore.

But they do. It was cool. I know Sandro and Mike had to fight haters, but there's haters everywhere. Don't leave majority of us because of few arrogant idiots.

This is overly simplified.
What most of the people ask from Frontier is to DECIDE at last who they are going to serve and do it consequently. That's how they can make a good game. They don't have to cater for everyone but for a certain gorup carefully selected along the main concept they have.
Apparently FD is catering mostly for their bank account. So forum rage and player unsatisfaction is granted.

Ya when you look at the things that can be done with the kinect - always amazed how under utilized it is

This is overly simplified...(and based on personal assumptions in regards to what their thoughts/plans are).

Making the claim that they mostly cater to their bank accounts isn't helping either...

Doesn't everyone cater to their own bank accounts? I did yesterday, I put some money into it.
So surely to accuse Frontier of doing the same is hypocritical?

I don't blame Frontier for making a deal with Microsoft ... if you ran Frontier, you would too ... I blame Microsoft for the exclusivity thing which screws anyone without an XBox (and Sony are no better)

Of course we all cater to our own bank account, but that's different that claiming that someone in a creative filed is MOSTLY doing their thing because of that reason. The old "they are JUST doing it for the money" argument is quite tiresome after a while...especially in the creative field...

When the creations are as bland and unoriginal (IMHO) as Powerplay and especially CQC (really, deathmatch, team deathmatch and CTF - that's what their "creativity" came up with?) then it's a comment not entirely without merit.

Like a moth to a flame...

Me mentioning something about the "creative field"...not surprised you came along. :D ;)

As for your comment. Nope...not gonna bite today! :D
