Tried to go onto the California Nebula, but my jump range made plotting difficult.

What is your jump range?
Great screenshots BTW.
At the time, 20-22ly. That was the main reason I went towards Benard’s Loop, close, but still an interesting POI. With the profits from the trip, I bought both a Dolphin for passenger running, and the beginnings of an AspX. Used the Dolphin’s profit generation to do most of the kitting out of the AspX (and have money left over to pay the rebuy a few times over). Now looking at engineering the AspX to see if I can get the 32ly range up over 40. Finding non depleted barnacles is somewhat slow going so far for Farseer.

Ah thanks. Good to have an idea of what sort of jump ranges limit things. I think my DBX is on about 35ly so far and I have not done any engineering yet. I could also do to loose a little weight. And remove some modules from my DBX. BA-DUM-TISH!
I'm enjoying the DBX, and I'm hoping to stick with it instead of joining the AspX crowd like everybody else. It seems to run nice and cool, which is great for fuel scooping, and I like the view through the window plenty fine. All that said, I haven't spent any real effort into researching the other ships as explorers yet. I could be enticed by a Dolphin or one of those yachts someday..
- it's a really interesting looking ship for screenshots (whereas the AspX is a bit of a pig IMHO - although I'll admit it does rock the Raider spike look)
- it's actually got a better range than the Asp now afaik
- it's easier to stop (whereas the Asp has a tendency to drift into the back wall of the station if you're coming in hot)
- it's got a smaller footprint so it's slightly easier to find a landing spot on rough terrain
