We have been looking / trying for a long time (Kickstarter backers). My Cmdr is more cat oriented and cats get really easily distracted ;)

Tell me about it. I have a cat and a chocolate labrador. The cat mithers me until I lie down on the carpet to fuss her, so then she walks off. The dog mithers me at least 45 minutes in advance of every mealtime; he’s doing it now, that stare, I can’t stand the pressure!!!
Especially since he had another fit this morning at 01:00. What with that, reading until midnight, and last night’s storm I had between 4 to 5 hours sleep & I’m a tad tired at the moment! Need more coffee!!!

edit: had two coffees, now where's that brandy? isshh Chrishmus!!!!

Probabbly rehashing things... but just looking at the Art Tornquist story... Cora- Kore(Persephone).. Art (short for Arthur) and Tornquist... Thorny Branch....

Im getting a Glastonbury vibe :)
Persephone and Arthur you say? That might not be the first time Persephone and Arthur are used in the same article.

Remember ages ago when Kahina Loren went missing? The seven veils was discovered to have fake parts installed at The Avalon Ship Yards on Persephone station. It was also the location used in one of those Jefress treasure hunts and I may be mistaken here but I think Alex Ryders’ father’s ship was named Avalonia as well.

I don’t know anything about Tornqvists or thorny branches though.

Ya what i was playing with is:
for Art Tornqvist
Arthur (Arthurs Burial is suggested to be in Glastonbury Abbey) Tornqvist ( Thorny Branch) There is/was a famous tree ... the Glastonbury Thorn which legend has was brought by Joseph of Arimathea ... a sprig of which has been given to British Monarchs every Christmas...

As to Cora/Kore.... I cant say anything definite but apparently there is a group that has a "Sacred space for the Goddess Hekate" in Glastonbury which celebrates Spring and Fall rites dealing with Persephone... sounds like a hoot!

I visited the system Glaston.... didnt find anything though

The seeming unobtainable permits are weird, and maybe part of an abandoned story thread. Given that Fdev went and marked so many permits as unobtainable, and yet some seeming unobtainable permits without this don't bother warning exist.

My pet ideas on the seemingly unobtainable permits:

1) The mission board idea is that in the right system, at the right station there are rare mission spawns that can lead to getting permits via active player action. (Noticing something new/different unlocked/spwaned (possibly unrelated to the mission itself) while the mission is active and interacting with it correctly. This idea is based on the existence of tip offs and military couriers.) Mindlessly doing a million missions would still not be enough to get the permits the player needs to do something 'active'. Having a robust understanding of both mission board spawns, npc spawns, and npc behavior would make noticing things that are odd much easier. (but will likely require coordination between larger numbers of players to filter out coincidences.)

2) Getting allied with multiple factions is needed to unlock the permits.

3) There exist anarchy factions at the remote asteroid bases that seem to serve no purpose, spawn no uss, spawn no missions, and that have oddly ominous names.( like the associates, the little people etc in a similar vein to The Dark Wheel and The Club) After the weekly server maintenance (when the mission board drops back to a seemingly more primitive mission generation while the normal system rebuilds based on new states etc) system it is possible to get missions or passenger missions to get friendly/allied with them. When friendly/allied you have access to their passenger missions to boost their influence. On my own i have not been able to do enough mission quickly enough to flip any of the systems. (if it is possible at all as it may be pseudo static w.r.t system control.) Normally i focus on trying to flip Harvard Base in HIP 83506 as it is near to the bubble.

4) Scanning stuff on planet surfaces (like ship data cores, or all of a settlement's data points) can sometimes result in a mission marker (blue, like 'search zone' or similar like can spawn for surface recovery missions) popping up in the left panel while in the srv. (in the ship they do not show up until you get close to the correct body) Based on the distance you can figure out what body the next data point is on. When you scan the data point on the second body you get a mission that is typically worded differently to the normal missions. (often they mention something to the fact of being glad you took the bait etc) They seem to be more or less random, and not typically repeatable. Some of these sorts of thing are bugged and point to unreachable locations inside gas giants.

I have had a crashed conda in the outer reaches of sol work as well as moon laboratory in wise 1506+7027, but also had these not work. (there were others that worked at least once, but i can't remember where they were off hand.)

On a non-permit related note:
Something odd on frontier's site. The old games still have pages, but are not linked to directly from the main page (still findable via search engine). Only FE 2 has a timeline as far as i could see. Oddly the Planets with life mentioned do not match the current elite systems. (possibly due to conflicts with other games system maps of these systems?) It is weird they would bother to mention the body at all, and not just say life found in the tau ceti system or similar.

Relevant system/bodies:
Tau Ceti 3
Beta Hydri 4
Altair 5

(the body numbers being sequential may just be a coincidence, but it does seem strange that body number and discovery order seems to track.)

The systems do have earthlikes, but the body numbers are different. The discrepancy may be intention given the codex tends to suggest the early spaceflight era was important.(these systems where founding members of the fed if memory serves). The life in Delta Pavonis was not directly mentioned which seems sort of odd too.

The name Art also appears to be derived from a Celtic word for 'Bear'.

Silly! Everyone’s in lockdown & staying at home!

Do you know if 300 BCE India had bears? I mean, going to the Proto Indo-European roots of the word bear, and comparing its meanings into Sanskrit literature I can only come up with this. This is an avatar of Vishnu that saved Earth from some ugly monster. It's all very interesting. You know, Celts and their Brahmin caste should have given up on the strict oral tradition at some point so that future people could do comparative religious studies. For Raxxla!

While checking out Avalon I went into the orrery view and noticed the planet Grach seemed to have a different sound playing while hovered over it. It’s probably nothing but I’m not sure if other planets similar to it sound that way while in orrery view.

I went to go check it out but then my game crashed as I was entering orbital cruise. Anyone willing to give it a listen?

Not sure what to listen for, anyway here's a recording.

There may be something in what you say. It’s clear that FD expected us to play in a specific way (following the mission board) and were surprised when we didn't. Then they revamped the mission board, & the Elite SD missions surprisingly disappeared, though we have been told they’re still in-game. So maybe following the missions would take us through the storyline they intended ... 🧐

This is what we are doing around witch's reach. We've basically started at a different one of the 20 odd systems 15ly away from the target permit system and are taking missions from the.boards, including the boards of the stations the missions take us too. It's a bit of brute force exercise but I've already had a mission for a luyten (sic) prison colony permit so we'll see what happens.

My only concern is FDev are grind blind, they don't see it as grind at all. I remember EII and first encounters and the insane volume of military missions of the same type you had to do over and over again. Photograph this, bomb that , it went on for ever and my concern is that I'll simply give up before I pass the FDev threshold.

I do think that sooner or later they are going to have to drop a breadcrumb, we aren't there yet and the game is as alive now as it's ever been but there will come a time where they will have missed the opportunity to explore this arc whilst it's still a populated universe.

Will be heading back to the formidine rift, perhaps make a stop in heart sector to visit the station there,

Any special areas i should take a look while im there?
Don't you want to wait for new super-cool explorer suite to buy ? :D
I returned from long trips 2 weeks ago and awaiting >:

Well, in IC1805 just past the Heart &Soul there is a duplicate name-two systems, one name, totally different bodies. I reported it as a bug a year or two ago. You might check it out and support the bug; I expect it won’t have been corrected. I remember it was one of the 2MASS stars-I surveyed a load of them. In Drew Wagar’s second book (starts off with Zurara) it was claimed she had been deploying terraforming equipment and beacons to highlight them; we never found any but it would be nice to know if any exist. There are also hints in the FRift base logs (worth doing if you haven’t already) of strange things, unknown heat signatures, lurking evil... this might have been detections of Zurara by the bases, or space madness, but might have been something else-thargoids? Guardian AI? Rogue human AI? Who knows (FD!!), but Bovomit sector is locked for a reason!
