In Odessey you will have to buy explorer suite, that will differ from default. Then long upgrade for it. For walking.

If you pre-buy Odyssey now you get the Pioneer suit. I think there will be new engineering arrangements for upgrades to weapons, suits, hand tools, etc. Yippee, more grind!!

Edit: But I think the initial Pioneer suit will be sufficient for limited ground-based exploration without engineering; though if there’s any possibility of encountering Thargoids I want at least a handheld chain gun (though I recall it didn’t help that guy in the first Predator film! 👽👽👽)

I want to engineer my ship’s coffee machine...I want some drinking chocolate, mocha, and also cappuccino capsules, extra frothy milk, and an extension spout so I can get a mug when I’m sat in my pilot’s chair- I get damn thirsty at the moment, the machine is out of reach!!! 😱

Just be careful to avoid the experimental decaf effect :coffee::sick:

Well, in IC1805 just past the Heart &Soul there is a duplicate name-two systems, one name, totally different bodies. I reported it as a bug a year or two ago. You might check it out and support the bug; I expect it won’t have been corrected. I remember it was one of the 2MASS stars-I surveyed a load of them. In Drew Wagar’s second book (starts off with Zurara) it was claimed she had been deploying terraforming equipment and beacons to highlight them; we never found any but it would be nice to know if any exist. There are also hints in the FRift base logs (worth doing if you haven’t already) of strange things, unknown heat signatures, lurking evil... this might have been detections of Zurara by the bases, but might have been something else-thargoids? Guardian AI? Rogue human AI? Who knows (FD!!), but Bovomit sector is locked for a reason!

As noted here : https://forums.frontier.co.uk/threa...chive-0-to-vicinity-of-bovomit-sector.559836/

Utopia has an ongoing investigation in the area of Bovomit. I plan on being out there indefinitely. (edit. And as a utopian enforcer, very armed in case of trouble - but mostly just scouting)

as for one name and two systems..likely a possible data issue when seeding the galaxy (those 2MASS survey data stars all seem to be kind of thrown in without much review as they tend to be the stars that are not realistically dispersed). But also, fdev creates custom systems by injecting a system at the same coordinates (and potentially same name) as an existing one ....perhaps they screwed up and overlaid it on an adjacent system.

There are no belt clusters and hence nothing is targetable, which seems strange. Especially for Sol, humanity’s home system. Back in around 2016 when I first got the Sol permit the asteroid belt was targetable but it showed as being within the sun.

the belt is still inside the sun and you can target it indirectly: first set a bookmark via the system map, then select/target it via the bookmarks.

kinda odd since sol is custom. Very weird that such an artifact still exists. Perhaps something in the engine prevents it from being removed (similar to how certain stars are stuck inside other stars and will never be fixed without re-seeding the entire galaxy).

well, it's not intentional. it's an artifact of how the stellar forge works. there are still some left in the galaxy.

from what I remember of them, only one of the stars technically exists, the other is just something you can target by name.

You do know that stars often have multiple names/designations don’t you? Always check with Simbad; enter the name in the basic search and then check bottom of the page against its identifiers. ED often knows several of those (but not all). Also I think that behaviour happens on galmap if you search for different names in a multiple star system.

Something similar happens on occasion when the input to Stellar Forge was fed with two different identifiers which had slightly different coordinates in their star catalogues (a common occurence in astronomy where distance estimate by parallax is much less accurate than the angular position measurement), so you end up with a star which you can select but if you search by name it will hop to another, often very close. Several of those have been reported on the fora (some in this thread).

With any luck there might still be a few survivors still out there in the rift. I think one group went to a nearby terraformable world while another went to an Earth-like. If we could rescue those people (and they haven't gone crazy) then maybe we could get a bit more of the story.

From Drew Wagar’s two Elite books, the FRift base logs, etc, it seems there was only one survivor of the Dynasty expeditions-Rebecca Weston, the Old Lady, who (somehow) managed to make her way back to the bubble and recruited Salomé into TDW to expose The Club and their plot. There are no other known survivors from the FRift, Hawking’s Gap or Conflux expeditions. There might be two other megaships to find to match the FRift’s Zurara, but that is pure speculation with no evidence in any of the books or in-game lore to support it, just possible storyline symmetry that may not exist.

That’s how it used to work, but I tried this afternoon & I can’t select the asteroid belt in the sysmap, it says no clusters are selectable (even if I’ve got one showing in the holographic display). None show in the nav panel.

i can't select it either, but (on the ps4) i can bookmark it when i hover over the belt in the system map. and via the bookmark it is then selectable.

Magnetized target fusion. FRX-L? FRCHX? Shiva Star. They found something at the Los Alamos labs in the 2200's...

Mmm, didnt try to bookmark it without selecting it, didn’t know that worked. Will try out later

edit: yep, can bookmark it without selecting it in sysmap, then select it on the bookmarks tab and it shows at the star. Presumably a coding bug since there is no cluster shown or selectable at the asteroid belt.
