Back in Sirius today. I got the "Frame Shift Drive operating beyond safety limits" message 10,000Ls away from Sirius B while approaching Patterson Enterprise. Has anyone confirmed that this happens anywhere other than at Sirius?
Did this thread just get Hexedited? I swear there was a comment here I was about to reply to that has gone missing.

I assure you that it very much appears to be locked, the region of Barnards Loop, the general neighboring sectors. Try navigating from the first two stars in the belt and go to the third. And it is in the middle of Orion's Belt. Also the Col 70 sector is in close proximity to the Pleiades and the Aries Dark. A fleet, barnacles and a ref point from a probe and still you say there appears to be no sign of thargoids near BL?
In fairness, for it to be possible to do via finding a planet called Raxxla, then it would have to be known as such to UC / the PF / your ships Navcom. Which would kind of need the folks on Raxxla to have an arrangement in place with UC, etc. that the big flashing 'this is Raxxla' sign pops up if you scan the planet. Which would be a kind of odd thing for them to do.![]()
Anyone know the type of Hyperdrive during the events of The Dark Wheel book? From what I understand, it was the quirium drive? I may be wrong, it's a bit early for me to dive down into this rabbit hole before my coffee so I'm sure I'm gonna miss a thing or two. As we all are, I'm trying to find Cirag. In the dark wheel novel, they're in one place and suddenly they drop out of hyperspace before the planet.
Although sometime before, they're in ''South City''. It states that it's a section of a Coriolis station. So there's no exact way of locating their previous destination except that there is only one South City in Elite: Dangerous and it's in the system HURUKUNTAK as an outpost, there is only one Coriolis station in that system. (I'm sure that trail has been picked up sometime in the past few years). When Elite: Dangerous was made, I believe even Drew had to change the locations of a few places in a book I believe, since the positioning of the galaxy in the older games wasn't accurate. Nevertheless, i think Cirag is within the systems of the old worlds.
Can we narrow down an area of space for where Cirag should be?
Update (see edits below for working).
As a first rough estimate, Cirag should be within say 25-30 ly of Crucis Sector DL-Y d163.
I doubt there's anything to actually find though.
Edit - 19 ly from Xezoar. Which also isn't in game...
Edit 2 - No systems within a 4 ly radius of Cirag
Edit 3 - Location of Xezoar in Elite:
Xezaor (146,112), {36,62,110,145,150,200,230,237} within 7.0 LY. Radius 3474 km.
Multi-Government, Rich Ind. Pop. 4.3 B, Prod. 20640 MCr. HC: 8, TL: 11, Human Colonials.
The world Xezaor is most well known for its hoopy casinos.
Lave (20,173), {39,46,55,129,147,255} within 7.0 LY. Radius 4116 km.
Dictatorship, Rich Agri. Pop. 2.5 B, Prod. 7000 MCr. HC: 6, TL: 5, Human Colonials.
Lave is most famous for its vast rain forests and the Laveian tree grub.
Reorte (19,151), {7,27,72,147,155,165,192,193} within 7.0 LY. Radius 6419 km.
Dictatorship, Poor Agri. Pop. 3.1 B, Prod. 5208 MCr. HC: 8, TL: 6, Black Fat Felines.
This planet is mildly fabled for its inhabitants' eccentric love for tourists but plagued by deadly earthquakes.
Riedquat (3,181), {7,55,147,155,255} within 7.0 LY. Radius 6403 km.
Anarchy, Poor Agri. Pop. 2.0 B, Prod. 1920 MCr. HC: 5, TL: 4, Harmless Rodents.
This planet is most notable for its fabulous cuisine but beset by occasional civil war.
Calculating....
Edit 4 - none of the systems within 7y of Xezoar are in EDSM.
Interpolating co-ordinates...
Edit 5 - Ok, interpolating co-ordinates isn't going to work completely as there's changes in relative position between Elite and ED.
However, first try gives:
Xezoar co-ordinates: 101.51, 48.75, 81.81
Nearest known system is: Crucis Sector DL-Y d163
This is calculated from the positions of Lave and Reorte, but it's definitely not going to be completely right as I've used Riedquat as a test:
Predicted Riedquat co-ordinates: 72.28, 48.75, 69.30
Actual Riedquat co-ordinates: 68.84, 48.75 69.75
I get same message all the time in V886 Centauri while doing some bounty hunting. I'm a regular there because it's close to Founder's World. So I guess it is not Sirius exclusive.

That means it's almost certainly not as easy as just finding a planet named Raxxla currently.

Ah, no it was Scytale!![]()
I was first tempted to make Doc believe it was due to his addiction to that ingnominious Bourbon it is said he is so found of, but ...naaah...too much respect for him![]()
The original Raxxla is a planet with a Coriolis station also named "Raxxla" in Galaxy 9, Andromeda.
Raxxla itself is a feudal world with reptile race with higher technology level than humans. Raxxlans were extremely hostile to every other race. War was what they loved and aimed for. Raxxla itself is not hard to find. Raxxlans will attack without hesitation giving out their location. The closer you get more aggressive they become. Anyone in their territory must be Elite or die. They will give the permit to enter their station after you have proven your skills in battles against them.
Raxxlans had a formed a trade partnership and military alliance with Dark Wheel in 3025. Dark Wheel had an agricultural settlement on the planet Soonji, which was named after Soontil. Only 100 Elite level commanders were allowed to have a residence on this planet due fact Raxxlans did not want large and permanent human settlements near their territory. Soonji was known as a paradise for retirement.
While the alliance was maintained 100 years the trading kept only a few Elites rich. It is known from history that all the snake ships and the first type of Coriolis stations are Raxxlan designed. The Raxxlans were proud reptiles and they named their ships after their feared relatives. This was to remind human beings to respect them while using them.
The trade and military union ended when Dark Wheel entered the forbidden Raxxlan territory with a generation ship. This broke the deal that was made between humans and reptiles. Raxxlans arranged clan wars to declare owners of the systems.
Ben Ryder wanted to get his own deals with Raxxlans and built his own gateway in 3125. This was the only known way to find Raxxla without deeper involvement with the Dark Wheel.
The only way to get to Raxxla was to use Ben Ryder's gateway which was located near Lave and Tionisla system. The only way to find the gateway was to visit Lave Station, ask for permission from Ben Ryder and fly around clockwise around Lave system to Tionisla. The trip had to be not less than 7 to 9 jumps before entering the secret system from Tionisla to the hidden system with the gateway.
The gateway itself was located near the last ringed planet where a battle took place against Allied Police force which was trying to get the ring to their use. The gateway has been lost since Dark Wheel hid it in 3126 due a war against Raxxlans.
Technically Raxxlans had a transport system to transfer the planet from system to other systems. The system looked like 5 large towers at both poles of the planet. Therefore it is extremely plausible that Raxxlan planet has been relocated and can be basically found anywhere. Therefore the current location of the planet is unknown.
• Micro Bit Computer Magazine 1990.
The reason why I know this. My last game save in 1991 is Raxxla.
Ben Ryder went through his own gateway and disappeared. He was declared dead soon after that. Allied Police force did all their best to find the gateways that were used in the "illegal trade "with Raxxlans. Jason Ryder was assasinated because he was about to expose the Dark Wheels trading system which his actions. The Elites who had retired to Soontil did not want any other power to enter the territory. - Due fact Raxxlans did not want more humans into their galaxy either.
After Dark Wheel broke the agreements, the war against Raxxla began. - To be honest. I was expecting to fight this war in Elite Frontier, but to my surprise, the game continued in Milkyway like nothing in Galaxy 9 happened. Raxxla and all the events around it basically got lost and became these weird legends that echo around. - To be honest... Not many seen the place...
The Thargoid ship on Lave planet was the only hit that something happened. We just have to remember the gateway to Raxxla was actually built from Thargoid Technology. - Thargoids and Raxxlans are in stalemate, they have a solid border between their territories. Thargoidia was in west galaxy while Raxxlans had the East of the Galaxy. Soonjji was located in the "no man's zone".

Hello fellow tinfoil-wearers! Have you seen the last three comments from November 4, 2017 on the Raxxla-page of the Elite-wiki? They were all made by the same person (according to the saved IP - that btw. belongs to an ISP only about 100 miles from Frev HQ) and provide some interesting info i haven‘t seen before.
Here are the 3 posts:
Especially the directions from Lave to Ben Ryders Gateway at a hidden system 1 jump away from Tionisla cought my interest. The second quote is also quite mysterious, as afaik the original Elite did not have Raxxla in game. I also did research on that „Micro Bit Computer Magazine“, but could not find any trace it ever existed.
What do you guys think? Is this already known info? A troll trying to mislead, ramblings of a madman or actual hints from someone involved with Fdev?

yeah, there are definitely several things in those comments, that don‘t add up. probably indeed just a (quite entertaining) troll. It's definitely a troll. The game was implemented in kilobytes and has been pulled apart and folded back together so many times that if Raxxla were hiding in the code we'd know.
The game was written long before Holdstock was hired to write the manual and The Dark Wheel novella ... and we know that Raxxla was Holdstock's invention as it appears in The Alien World a few years prior.
Braben and Bell would have had to totally recode the game and exceed the limited resources of thec8 bit computer era. Anyone who played the original would quickly identify that the depth of gameplay described goes way beyond what Elite had to offer.
Also... Check out my link a few pages back to an old interview with David Braben where he confirmed that Raxxla did not exist in the original game.
There have been many unofficial ports and mods to the game over the years though. Quite possible someone shoehorned their own version of Raxxla in there ... it just wouldn't have any bearing on Raxxla in Elite Dangerous.
Nothing exciting to report from Epsilon Orionis I'm afraid mate (other than it being quite a nice system). No nav beacon though.
The route wasn't bad, it's just the route plotter struggling when it would need to divert around a bit of a permit locked route.
Image of the route below if you're interested:
