Citations including suspected removed lore portions? Seriously, I am tired of people claiming retconns to the lore without evidence.
I was paraphrasing what he wrote, but he's obviously making reference to the lore in the books that was later retconned (egs. Oresrians, Thargoid Civil War, and Halsey's visions), but if you want to know the specifics and the context of what he's referring to, take a little time to go read what he wrote on his discord on 07/07/23.

Actually, pretty sure "Thargoids" are the Traditionalist-branch Guardians which would nicely explain HIP 22460 and Proteus Wave was turned so spectacularly against humanity. Besides, read the Guardian codex about the fighting during the civil wars - in which the Traditionalist branch are noted for enzymatic weapons. The could control Guardian technology because they are Guardian. Thargoid is just the human name for the species and this is covered in "First Thargoid Contact" in Lave. The name originated from symbols appearing to spell THARG on the hull in the made for holo-vid video. This is also potentially the violent reaction between the two groups technology - in which "Thargoid" technology reacts violently to Guardian or Progressive-branch technology. Also, in the "Thargoid" codex they seed a region and leave (but possibly left behind some folks). A few centuries later there are Guardians. There is a very simple explanation - they are derived from the same species but one group developed high technology that was not organic (which became the basis of our ships). One needs only look at the Saud Kruger Astrogation Console and its holographic technology (and Holo-Me) to start seeing it. So, yes our technology is "Thargoid" derived but it happened almost 1,300 years ago at Sol. There is also a very curious mention of genetics in the Ram Tah logs.

Oresrians were also in the TDW novella and well they can be mistaken for Thargoids.

The data from the obelisks tells us that the civil war and the war with the Thargoids are different things.
I realize that. It was more historical context to explain how the current state of affairs happened as well as the Guardian Civil Wars. Humanity has already shown early signs of splintering in the same fashion. If we are not careful, it will destroy us, too. You cannot forget the past. The past is the lesson that teaches us about the present. The past, though, is not destiny or fate. The present can be changed in light of those lessons. Humanity's path to the stars and its' connection to Raxxla puts us solidly in the crosshairs of Guardian Civil AI. We are on the road to extinction at present. That threat only got worse with Caleb "Salvation" Wycherley and the Nemesis Fail-safe Device.

That said, once you learn something you have some level of responsibility for those lessons. Let's just say some of what happened in the past, may have been meant to ensure that only those who could be responsible would find it. With great power comes even greater responsibility.

To quote Lucifer Morningstar from The Sandman:

Tools are the subtlest of traps. We become reliant upon them and in their absence we are vulnerable, weak, defenseless.

I agree. Its also worth noting that Drew Wagar recently admitted on his discord that he thinks the whole idea of Raxxla was removed as far back as 2017 by Braben, much to the discontent of Michael Brookes, who was then moved off Elite and onto another project not related to Elite. This was around the same time TDW missions were removed, and when some Elite lore was retconned. Basically anything that can't trace its origins directly to DB, was retconned out of Elite.

The whole thing is just a wild goose chase now as there's no longer anything to find and no story to tell, but its still used as a marketing tool, and likely the reason why DB and Frontier will never admit that it only exists in Holdtock's novella, and as a brief write up in the Codex.
I still think Raxxla is in the game. The codex entry came long after the much exaggerated retcon.
(The only thing that was changed was that the Thargoid/Alinance diplomacy in the 3250s, was removed from history).

That said, I am not convinced at all that is legitimately gone. The whole of the California Nebula region and Turner Research Group strongly suggests that not is as it seems. This doesn't even get into the weirdness that there are Thargoids in the first game but using clues such as in-service dates of ships and the fact Lave was a dictatorship suggests that something about the past isn't entirely as it seems. Walden comes to power AFTER the "First Thargoid War" in August 3174. The "Thargoids" should have vanished in 3151. I also do not believe Sohalian Fever was retconned based on GalNet and events of Cereberus Plague.

Gestalt psychology is all about perception. This is being mentioned because it figures prominently in the first page of "Alien World: A Complete Illustrated Guide" which first features Raxxla and the Oisir-Raxxlans.

The core ideas behind Gestalt psychology are:

- "atomism," also known as "elementalism,": 3  the view that all knowledge, even complex abstract ideas, is built from simple, elementary constituents

- "sensationalism," the view that the simplest constituents—the atoms of thought—are elementary sense impressions

- "associationism," the view that more complex ideas arise from the association of simpler ideas

The adage "the whole is more than the sum of its parts," relates to how things are perceived. This is partly why I suspect Raxxla is very much in-game and told through environmental storytelling whereby places, names, iconography, and even accents on voice logs is important to understanding the story. This would even include small details such as Lavian Brandy is brewed in oak barrels imported from Earth.

Read everything. The descriptions on everything are there to help you see the big picture.

Much more information at Wikipedia:

I will have to get a scan of the first page of "Alien World": A Complete Illustrated Guide" in a bit.

Drew, while being an awesome dude, is not the authority on what is implemented in game. Fdev, as in David Braben was bemused that people hadn't found it in the beta. There is likely no narrative around it. It is a puzzle hunt.

How do I know it is in the game? https://forums.frontier.co.uk/threads/the-quest-to-find-raxxla.168253/post-10179795

Just so you know: Elite's Universe very much utilizes Ancient Aliens as a core part of the greatly expanded lore that constitutes a large portion of the Raxxla myth. You'll notice the Qa'Qal'Orq Gestalt Mind visited Earth in the form of "the Human God of Turin" (in otherwords the Turin Shroud is an alien artifact) in the fictional universe that constitutes Raxxla. This was hardly the first time such an event happens according to the lore from Robert Holdstock. I hope as time goes on we get many more types of aliens.
