There’s the issue that in Paradise Lost Satan travels through Hell first after his fall, it’s a big place. The gates of hell are actually on the outskirts on this realm, at its most southerly aspect. Not above its centre.

There are a number of classical Greek named systems named after established Greek underworld locations, these all look to form a triangle, Pandemonium was the capital in Paradise Lost, but it was not at the centre. It was on a southern aspect.

This gets confusing in game, what I base my orientation upon is the Greek wind compass.

At first glance it doesn’t look logical. But there are numerous other examples in game of theological systems with a north / south element. And when compared against this Greek compass they align. So the axis I feel could well be shifted.

In regards to the Greek underworld systems. Pandemonium is in game upon a southerly aspect. If we accept the path of Jacques as the path of Satan to the gates of hell, it too is upon a southern direction.

My recent assessment about where the base of Chaos might be, was based on interpretations of the text from Paradise Lost which gives the impression the lowest aspect was Erebus.

This system also sits upon a bubble of systems surrounding Sol all named after storm or thunder gods. I presume this denotes the zone of chaos.

If you draw a line between these it aligns with the path of jaques.

The Northernly aspect then upon this hypothetical axis is upon the area populated by Shamash, there are a number of systems in that area all named after deities of the Sun eg the highest aspect ergo north! This alignment also is correct in regards to the Greek compass in game.

In this northern aspect we then have - just off; the Greek Fates, and Norse Norns whose centre I believe align. Again I think this denotes a hotspot just off the hypothetical northern aspect of the zone of chaos, just below the floor of heaven - the Empyrean.

The image below highlights (circle) the hotspot where the north axis of chaos aligns with the Fates and Norns.

I believe ‘something’ is of importance within this area of space.

This image shows the axis in relation to the path of Jacques and the alignments above etc

What I find conflicting, is how the Codex - in my opinion, takes so much effort to point us towards the Lost Realms zone, why then do so, if such a Miltonian model exists?

One possibility is that the reference to Princess Astrophel etc is some unknown aspect hidden there that redirects our attention, either there is something in the Lost Realms zone (supported by the new presence of Brookes Tours and / or Artemis) or something about it is intended to draw our attention upwards; or it isn’t?

The evidence in the codex, in my opinion tells us to go look at the region below the Lost Realms zone, exactly where the Brookes Tours points.

But the ‘hypothetical’ cosmological construct seems to firmly point elsewhere.

There very likely could be numerous signposts in game pointing to various narrative waypoints. I have this long established opinion that Brookes built an architecture in game to support his narratives, and in it’s entirety, it was harmonious.

It may be that my investigations just highlight all of this, it maybe Raxxla is not the primary focus of the cosmological model, and that Raxxla is in the Lost Realms zone…

Would Frontier care to enlighten us @Paul_Crowther as I believe we’ve uncovered rather an extensive mystery in game !

Agreed, but if any author gave out clues it was MB- I'm still pondering if Raxxla is in Alliance space -from Legacy:
"As a girl Julia grew up without toys with a single possession, a book “about a young man’s quest to save a princess from an alien dragon” (a clue??) locked alone each day in the tiny family cell while her parents slaved in the mines. She hoped to keep her Eagle as she’d grown accustomed to its idiosyncrasies...”whether it was a suitable ship for travelling all the way to Alliance space (another clue?) was another matter”.
I always had a feeling that the princess and the dragon has something to do with Polaris and the surrounding region of the sky. Draco the dragon is curled around Ursa Minor and Polaris.
The story could be a variant of the Cupid and Psyche story: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cupid_and_Psyche
This type story is classified as "The Animal (Monster / dragon) as Bridegroom". Similar to Beauty and the Beast.

The theme of the story is common in folk tales like 'White-Bear-King-Valemon': https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/White-Bear-King-Valemon
and "East of the Sun and West of the Moon": https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/East_of_the_Sun_and_West_of_the_Moon

In these two stories, the animal is represented by a white bear. Ursa Minor is the polar bear of the sky.

The path "North" from Aquilla (the Eagle) on the horizon, across the magpie bridge past Vega and Draco, to Ursa Minor and Polaris, could be significant in some way?

Anyway, Jaques may be the oldest character in the series.
I don't think there's even the slightest competition among human [1] characters. He's over 300 (but probably not much older, since he got drafted due to persistent unemployment) at the time of the FE2 story, which seems to be set in general around the time of FE2 itself (given its links to the other stories in the book). I would guess 450ish for his current age.

Wycherley was maybe around 200 years old when he died, and even if he's still around in some form that's clearly a lot younger; he believed himself to be the oldest and had taken extreme measures to even get that far ... Zemina Torval is old at 137 and starting to reach the limits of more conventionally-available life extensions.

[1] Well, human-origin, anyway. I don't think Jaques is even sure any more.

As the first mentions of it is from a time where FSDs were much less capable, that is highly likely.
As a counterpoint, the legendary comparisons in the Codex - Atlantis, El Dorado, etc. - didn't become legends because people had found them, but because they were sufficiently far away either in terms of raw distance or other factors that searching for them wasn't trivial and disproving their existence was really tough no matter how many expeditions came back with "well, we know more about where it isn't" or never came back at all.

The closer it is to Sol, the bigger the explanation for "why has no-one even found the slightest trace of it in a thousand years of looking / stumbled across it by pure dumb luck?" has to get. At some point even the "it's defended by ruthless killers who ensure no-one who gets close to it lives to tell the tale" explanation is going to start showing up as an odd anomaly on ship losses reports and "Raxxla is in the neo-Bermuda Triangle" would at least get some speculation.

Point taken, all i've got is "The mother of galaxies" which i interpret as Cobra, AKA Serpentis. (someone claimed there is a constellation that looks like a cobra)

Also while legends and myths have different origins, their common denominator is a grain of truth.
-ie a myth may very well not be true, whereas legends are often rooted in reality.

Seeing as it has been confirmed as being in the game it is a legend.
-this is when taking it literal obviously.

Serpens is an unusual constellation in that it's split in half by Ophiuchus (which represents Asclepius holding it).
The best candidates for its brow are somewhere in the "head" area, but the varied depictions on charts don't help matters...

I keep talking about Hoag's Object track in game music being some kind of clue or potentially relevant. The only IRL Hoag's object are outside of the milky way, yes, but are viewd in the Serpentis constellation, specifically near Serpens Caput.

I may have previously suggested the sound analysis gurus try listening to the Hoag's object track in audacity for any type of breadcrumbs but perhaps listening to the skybox in the area of Hoag's Object/ Serpentis/ Serpens Caput. 🤷‍♂️

So, look for the Bermuda Triangle of the galaxy and there it is? Bold strategy there, shouldn't be hard to track it down! If we never see you again we know you found it!

Might not be much, but that is beginning to look like a trend especially when coupled with the "whispers in witchspace".
-it also has a symbol of sorts in the spectrum, the only question is what it is supposed to show.

Ie, serpentis, graphic in witchspace and if possible a combination. Could be three solid leads maybe.

Milton utilised various deities as fallen archangels, he used them to convey various classical allusions.

Nisroch I understand pops up in Paradise Lost briefly, questioning how the war might be unfair, as the fallen angels had the disadvantage, because they were given the ability to feel pain. Milton probably was not being historically literal, instead he was likely being literary, associating the name negatively, based upon the cultural references to that name within his time.

There’s no actual system in game with that name.

The lyre of Orpheus was placed in the sky by Zeus as the Lyra constellation, which is sometimes depicted as being carried by an eagle. Or a vulture.
Such instrument was used by him to drown the sound of the sirens...

rabbit holes are way too deep, its simple on the surface.
"Princess Astrophel and the Spiralling Stars" -- Star-lover and the Spiraling Stars, so we're talking stars. Particularly spiraling stars.
Star 1: Jewel that burns on the brow of mother of galaxies. So what's a star with a high temp that is just short becoming a black hole?
Star 2: Whisper in witch space, siren of deepest void. What star gives off sounds that sound like whispers in SC, and entices sailors to make a dangerous journey that may strand them?

I know two of the things I'm looking for....

Tbf almost all of my non-raxxla related exploration is specifically to NS and BH (and CS if they're relatively close). Would suggest they have an allure, calling explorers out, regardless of writers romanticizing the way words are spun.

Its not an allure, the siren is a term used by sailors that lured their ships to become marooned.

Ive often found systems with a BH and NS next to each other, i thought about the Talmor lens and boosted using the NS to slingshot me into the BH
The rebuy screen!! :ROFLMAO:

I like the idea though. This was kind of the same thing I was thinking but To position my ship jumping into/ through the black hole. Most likely a specific origin and destination system required to bypass rebuy screen. Potentially a prerequisite set of accomplishments and perhaps key systems visited also, just because the game can track all that easily and I'm also trying to think like a game Easter egg at this point lol

So I can think of a couple basic ways.
1) a hyper jump that requires you to jump with low fuel to get there making the return jump a risky bet.
2) a designation in a star system that requires so much fuel during SC that, once there, a jump out to the nearest star is a risky bet.

In both cases you could die yourself back to your last dock though.
