Latest Excitement/Disappointment Cycle:

Found a Red Dwarf system with ELW and Gas Giant with 8 moons
Scanned/mapped system.
Found nothing unusual :poop:

Scanning a system and mapping bodies may not be the best way to find an obfuscated station orbiting a moon.
But I bet you also orbited that 8th moon thoroughly.. ;)

you just don’t know what (or where) it is! 😊
Not yet settled that DB was arguing that ED doesn't know what the next incoming question in the chat is ?

I even fired probes out randomly, because you never know... :D

Edit:
Thinking about it, I didn't check the ELW dark side.
Fortunately, I'm parked on the 8th moon right now, so I'll check it when I next log in.

Night vision might help when eyeballing possible orbits ? But only in normal flight... No ? Must be really tedious to low wake every now and then...

Edit: taking examples of the known stations, what would be the most probable orbit ? Equatorial ? And the distance from the surface ? Relative to the body mass ?

But all the missions disappeared, so they are just a 'shell' now - no point in making a noise about it..

by which I mean you can read Farseer's comment both ways..

Shinrarta Dehzra?
“It keeps the treasure seekers and wishful thinkers occupied,’ the woman said. ‘They believe they are onto something. They have their uses for occasional menial activities. The truth is far more subtle than they will ever suspect. Shinrarta is merely a front.”

Hypothesis: the missions disappeared because they led nowhere...Possibly FD a priori managing the salt they’d receive when Raxxla is found & revealed to have no relation to SD. They were “just a distraction to keep the treasure seekers and wishful thinkers occupied”! Often wondered why SD is supposed to be permit locked to Elite pilots, but it’s full of npc pilots that are of lower rank...

It strikes me that the Codex pic for the Raxxla entry might actually show the entrance to TDW station- more obfuscation. Whether finding that would help us find Raxxla is moot. But it does seem odd that it hasn’t been found so far; everyone is checking out 8th moons.

I think they're mostly equatorial-ish, but I don't think there's any 'formula' defining the orbital distance.

Why only eyeballing in normal flight? Normal stations are visible in SC.....have I missed something?
I’ve been mapping any 8th moon I come across; does seem odd that mapping has to be done in SC...

How is everyone or most of them, checking 8th moons? As I said, I don't think that FSS and probes, in SC, is enough to find it. You have to eyeball all along the probable orbits in normal flight.

Oops... I must have missed something... But I can't remember seeing any station in SC... ;)

Imho, mapping moons will not reveal hidden stations on orbit. Only surface features. But only imho.
As the FSS will not reveal an obfuscated station. Too easy peasy ! 😝
Maybe the ship sensors in normal flight... When in range... But just maybe.
(Err.. Sorry, guys. Don't pay too much of an attention to my posts. Already 7 months playing other space games. I may very well have forgotten most of ED mechanics...)

I normally do a couple of orbits - equatorial and polar and look for any bright spec that moves (i.e. not in the skybox) - stations appears as a bright dot as can be seen when glass is shattered and no HUD - you can still find the way home.

not appearing in FSS - well I don't see why not. It can find the voyager probes, which don't emit much, so a station would be obvious - even low power - no I suspect we're not looking in the right places... we've discounted it or have just misinterpreted the hints. In general I suspect we've 'missed' on every clue, either because we're over complicating it or else we haven't come pre-prepared with the right starting facts.

For instance - abandoned stations - these are a thing in FFE II and I didn't know that - now I have the list, but it didnt help much - how much stuff needs to be known to put the pieces together? Do we have to 'be' DB at least in terms of starting info? I hope that amongst our number there are those who have played out all the elite games and read all the literature etc and know the myth, poetry, scifi books etc. Thats not me..

Perhaps the DW station is hidden in plain sight? did we discount all known stations? Is there a 'secret' entrance to a station we already know about or an installation - is there somewhere to insert a 'key' ?

OK... If you think that the super secret base of The Dark Wheel, undiscovered for centuries, can be found by any biowaste trucker launching its FSS when arriving in the system...
Why not ? It's FD's ED, after all..
Or maybe...
There will be no clues :p
... and just a tiny little bit something obvious, so people know what they are doing

But you may well not notice it unless you were looking for the right thing - 'you dont know what it is'

As for 'no clues' - surely thats been 'rectconned' by the codex? or else they're going to upset alot of people by raising up a puzzle that doesn't have a solution - for heaven's sake the name of the 2 biggest mysteries are up in lights!

I think we still need to have a good look in the waste basket of things we discounted..

You don't know what is the next question coming so you couldn't filter it...
It's my (and many other people) understanding of DB's phrase.
And the subject was Raxxla. Not TDW station.
What a mess ! LoL !

And the only clue in Codex which shows itself as a real clue is...
The icon.

I wan't really being that specific - in general you gotta notice what you're looking at. I'm perfectly aware of the possible interpretations of the livestream - thats not the point.

We have been given some fairly fat hints in the codex - they set a puzzle 5 years ago and we didnt find it - it must be driving them nuts. So they had to give us a nudge - but we still didnt get it - this is not uncommon when trying to set challenging puzzles.

Anyway - think my t-shirt shrunk in the wash - maybe time to give up on it and wear it for gardening...

I don't see anything in the Codex that I consider a 'puzzle'. There's some background lore, but nothing to actually 'solve'.
However, the Codes does say that you don't find TDW, they find you, so even if you happen to be in the right place you're probably not going to see anything unless you've been 'invited'.

Makes sense. But FD don't. Why would they send a fair part of their players searching every gas giant 8th moon if there wasn't any possibility ??
Aw.. Yes, you are right. Just another carrot to keep the people hyped for nothing. It already worked so many times.

trouble is that folk have tried everything - all ranks, missions, tipoff - pretty much every mechanic in the game, and no invite.

btw - this lack of progress is visible on all fora - tumble weed everywhere - the community is just out of ideas..
