I played with 27 Cass for a while. Got supercharged and went to the BH. There just does not seem to be any way to plot a jump through the BH regardless of what is behind it so supercharging is of no use here. As with all BH's in Elite, none of them seem to have an event horizon as real BH's do. I would have expected to have been sucked into it by it's gravitational pull toward the center. I did look at it with FSS and got some Thagroid sound effects. I'm wondering if you need to have the Guardian Jump Drive Assist mounted on your ship before supercharging and trying to jump through the BH. I did not have one on board, but if someone else does, it might be worth a shot.
No the Guardian Boost module doesn’t make a difference. I went to the BH in my Cutter with the biggest Guardian booster plus I was supercharged. Dropped out of SC and flew towards the BH until I hit the exclusion zone. At that point the BH wasnt very far away. Scary lol. I didn’t notice the thargoid sounds from the BH but the neutron star was just an orgy of whispers with constant thargoid echos.

Cygnus X-1(the radio source) is a black hole in the V1357 Cygni system, in ED.

HIP 98298 is another name listed on Wikipedia for Cyg X-1. In ED this is the separate system, Star of India.

Star of India and V1357 Cygni do of cource align perfectly from Sol.

Star of India also has the same spooky local map anomaly as Deneb(Alpha Cygni).
I have my destinations to visit for the week, then ;)

I returned from looking for signs of the Mayflower 97, nothing to report. There's still a vast number of systems to check, too much for me unless I'm going to spend the next year looking, depending on how much deviation from the direct course you allow. I think I visited two and half pages' worth of exploration data (so over a hundred systems).

Can someone tell me that all neutron stars “whisper” so that I can stop thinking about it? I can’t play currently but it seemed about as obvious as this quest ever gets. Also thinking back, I never saw a circle around the neutron star on approach. Maybe I wasn’t close enough but I feel like the exclusion zone lines appear much further away than I got. Anyone down to sacrifice their ship for science?

Are you referring to 27 Cass? I was there and saw that circle around the neutron star as well. I don't know of any neutron stars which "orbit" and the line I thought was an "orbital" line. I also thought I saw one when I apporoched the BH and stopped to circle around it. My first thought was that there must be something orbiting both the BH and NS as the orbital lines only appear for orbiting planetary bodies. Honking/FSS showed no other orbiting bodies in this system, so, I am still confused about what they were. Neutron stars do make noise in the FSS as they are giving off extreme radiation at some frequency, but BH's should not do this. I thought I heard some strange sounds coming from the BH when viewed in FSS.

Why are you asking someone else to sacrafice their ship? Don't you want to be the brave sole who finds Raxxla? And what do you have in mind that would cost someone a ship?

Neutron stars can have orbit lines. Came across a few on DW2

Yeah.. You very well may be right... Your memory is still better than mine, Pa ;)

It was more of a spiritual successor than a direct sequel. We did look at a story involving Raxxla, but felt that was a story that should be played out in game rather than as a novel.

Michael

Ah nice link - hadn't read those

Edit: Hmm hadnt seen his book Sun Dragon either.. Or the Tau ceti missions which seem to have some possible paralells... Will have to pick it up

Anyway, for the people who are looking for clues pointing to the presence or not of Raxxla in game, it shows that FD had at least the intention of implementing a story involving Raxxla.
Now, is there actually such a story line (personal journey) in game ? Or has it been pulled back along the E/F missions ?

Consider how well Frontier has done with implementing story withing Elite: Dangerous so far. If they do the same stellar job with Raxxla as they've done with their other attempts to create a compelling in-game narrative there will be riots.

There's just a beacon with a recorded message (in ROT13 obviously) saying:

"Raxxla can't come to the phone right now, but leave a message after the tone and she'll get back to you."

For what it's worth, i looked into this specific "corona" and searched info on corresponding stars in ED:

Gemma (α CrB) is indeed present in ED as Alphekka / 5 Alpha Coronae Borealis. The real one is also known as Gnosia Stella Coronae, Ashtaroth, or Star of the Crown of Knossos. I'm away at the moment so i couldn't check it out, but there seems to be nothing except one A-class star in the system.

Complete "Crown" shape of the constellation found in ED, from left end to right end as seen from Earth's northern hemisphere:
- ι CrB as 14 Iota Coronae Borealis
- ε CrB as Epsilon Coronae Borealis
- δ CrB
as 10 Delta Coronae Borealis
- γ CrB as 8 Gamma Coronae Borealis
- α CrB as Alphekka (see above)
- β CrB as Nusakan / 3 Beta Coronae Borealis
- θ CrB
as 4 Theta Coronae Borealis (with a big blue Be-class primary - same as the real Gamma Cassiopeia -).
I’ve done Alphekka up, down and sideways without finding anything.
Still, some fresh eyes might do better than me. 🧐

I reached the Star of India system today but the FSS shows nothing. I'll fly a circuit in SC to check via parralax for anything hidden nearby later today. What is the system map anomaly you mention? It looks normal to me. There is different music that is played when zoomed out and zoomed in, perhaps because when zoomed in you're within the perimeter of the star and every type of body has it's own music.

Just wanted to chime in on the whole "jump through a black hole" idea. Given the game mechanics, I think we are wasting our time with this theory. I don't think the game takes into account what is front of you (or anywhere around you, for that matter) when initiating a jump. I've jumped "through" planetary rings more times than I can count. Also, if a waypoint is behind a plantary or stellar body, the waypoint becomes obfuscated and you have to navigate around said body to get a clear path. So, clearly the game will allow you to jump regardless of what's in front of you, whether it be a ring or a station (anyone else jumped "through" the habitation ring?)...but in the case of planets or stars, it won't allow you to jump....so while(st) I applaud the effort, I don't think that's a tree what needs barking.

I wasn’t talking about orbit lines, I was referring to exclusion zone lines. And yeah I tried sacrificing a cutter to the Raxxla gods by ramming into the BH, but it didn’t do anything. Shot lasers and munitions into it while pressed against the BH, nothing. However I didn’t try ramming the neutron Star.
