When I first saw "Cardboard" it seemed like a great entry level (cheap) VR alternative but thinking about it a little harder it dawned on me that having a microwave transmitter strapped to your face at some optimal distance set by a company such as Google / Alphabet could have extremely bad consequences.

Their reputation is rapidly sliding into a deep hole and Google is no longer your friend / trustworthy.

[Edit: Maybe if the phone was in "Aeroplane mode" and you could trust it NOT to transmit...]
[Edit, edit: Despite the inconvenience I flat refuse to use any hardware that's not hardwired.]
Just add a tinfoil mask to your tinfoil hat. Problem solved. 😁

Isnt there are already permanent POIs that are invisible to FSS. For example, I dont think all crashed ships have POIs do they?
You could also get around it with life if the omphalos rift turns out to be the Martian relic, which was tiny. You could fit it in your hand. How sensitive is the FSS? Could it pick that up?

FD can set the detection radius on any object. This was used for the BDS and IDS. It’s was also used for the Voyagers in Sol. It’s still used for the Guardian sites.

That's partly why region/system locks are central to my Raxxla and TDW theories. Raxxla being randomly stumbled across by someone who wasn't even looking for it would be hugely disappointing.

Also, from a technical perspective, region/system locks are a long-standing mechanism (present in the game since Raxxla was added) that can be easily tested by FDev without anyone needing to know where Raxxla is. Coding something specifically to obscure Raxxla or the TDW station is an unnecessary extra effort, and runs a risk of breaking whenever new features (eg the FSS) are added. Unlocking permits is the same - there's an existing, easily tested method for doing it.

I also suspect Raxxla may be in a permit locked system, with TDW the permit provider. As I said yesterday there’s such a system, uninhabited, about 20ly from Shin Dez which makes me suspicious (more so than normal, for me).

The only proviso is a sneaking suspicion I have that DB once said, or was reported as having said, he was surprised nobody had found it yet. Also seem to vaguely remember someone muttering something about it possibly being found happenstance.....
We really need a codex entry on FD with all their statements & musings!

Anybody who has nothing to hide?
I already know where I'm at. Explain to me why big brother (or the spouse) needs to know?

I used to have this argument with people indiscriminately throwing their credit card and bank account information into random websites and claiming they had nothing worth stealing "in there" but the thief doesn't want your money, they want your identity to heist the bank's money and make you responsible.

Chronic exposure over time can be as bad or worse than a single zap at higher power.

Oh dear - more mis-truths..

Extensive studies have shown no ill effects other than increased cataract rate in people who use them for many hours a day (using old tech phones of the 1990's). These are caused by direct heating of the eyes by conduction of heat from the case, not by the RF radiation. All modern phones are actually designed to direct RF away from the head - partly because of stringent safety rules (all phones are tested to meet Rf radiation limits set to give negligible exposure risk), but mainly because you get better data rates.

Most of the studies were done on old tech with a 2W maximum power. Since then power has reduced to 0.2W (and many phone only put out 0.1W) due to better performing 3G + 4G technology.

You really don't have much to worry about, and if its held a few cm from you then the power is reduced by another 10 times so then you can worry even less.

You see all sorts of fake videos which have given credit to this myth - people boiling eggs or popping corn with their phones is fake news. Try it your self - more likely than finding Raxxla that the egg will be hard boiled by your phone

Clearly we've been digging different holes in the Interwebz, I'm happy to agree to disagree. ;)

You don't even needs facts from "deep holes in the Internet", just common sense. If phones produced enough RF radiation to rival a microwave you would have tens (possibly hundreds) of millions of people affected. I don't see how phones can both be dangerous and the dangers of using it is also a secret that only the "woke" know of.

Maybe I'm mistaken in thinking the "tinfoil" talk was just a joke in this thread.

Nothing to hide? Paranoia (or history) would say that some organisations or state powers would love to have to come to power and have previous records of behaviour of everybody so they can 'choose' who has 'something to hide' and find them easily on day 1 without having to start mass surveillance of the population.

I may have nothing to hide from the Government, i may have lots to hide from Google, Facebook and mainly their manipulative advertisers and far more sinister political organisations using symmetrics and algorithms to twist online adverts to get a certain message across. I may have lots to hide from a govt in 20 years that I haven't even thought about yet. If my data isn't there it cant be used, if it is, it is no longer my data in any usual sense of understanding, its now a tool for someone else to use to manipulate me at best or harass or decide I'm an 'undesirable' at worst. Not just now, forever, once its out there.

Anyway....I DSS about 99% of what I visit, which is why it takes me so long to get anywhere...'Trust No-one', in this sense meaning I have a mate who DSS's and half the time doesn't even look at the Nav Panel to see what has been resolved! Currently I have over 5,000 Efficiency Bonuses for DSS but not a clue the total number of planets scanned, don't know if this is a lot or a few compared to average?

Crashed Ship POI - They only resolve for me, it seems, if I do DSS the planet, not from the Nav Beacon or just flying by, is that right or am I just too quick with the DSS? If so, then theres the game-mechanic right there maybe.

Raxxla doesn't have to be a place we can see, it just has to be a place we can 'jump' to. Meaning we may all be able to jump from 'anywhere' or specific to each individual, locations and end up at the same place. Raxxla just has to be somewhere that the Jumpdrive can get to. We 'choose' the system and the jumpdrive gets us there. In reality its a loading screen and we just tell the program what to load. Nothing to stop an 'unknown' destination being chosen to load instead if certain conditions are met at jump initiation. I'm not explaining this well at all...Raxxla doesn't have to be a fixed point in the Universe as such, If you find it I can't just jump there by getting within 50LY for example, it won't be 'there', it just has to be a destination, the from may not be as important as we think. It may be more the how and the why or the when even.

Were the Thargoid sites in game from the start? Were the Pleiades locked or how did they get around this, just saying people missed them or did they put them in un-visited systems? I know the Rift mystery was an Anaconda on day 1, it was updated as the game developed but it was there on day 1. Not a lot of risk of someone finding it really by accident, the chances are literally astronomical.

The fact that there are billions of mobile phone users who are suffering no ill-effects has no impact on true believers of youtube ganker misinformation.

Haha, I can sense the impending futility of finding Raxxla especially when this post is now going on about mobile phones. I would not be surprised to log in tomorrow to see the discussion has found out the price of carrots... in Norway.

The truth [about Raxxla] is out there...

Having said that, I've never found a "belief" that wasn't 50% "lie" either.

You can get 1kg of carrots for about $1.85 USD in Norway. That's pretty much the same where I'm from, I guess we can assume the carrot economy is stable.

Long ago I knew such guy and saw him at work. Well, they paid bigger price - paranoid as hell, never gets drunk, friends dunno his true name etc.

Guys but you missed my question, did you try tos tream by vnc/rdp or whatever are sharing desktop clients?
If it is too slow or anything else wrong, maybe i should save own time trying to repeat.
