greetings commanders o7
i was doing some exploration around soontill and found an interresting looking beacon mentioning the prescence of a secret base on planet soontill 1.

also, if you get closer to the surface and from the right angle, you can see a strange spot on this otherwise quite blend, flat and uniform planet.
not sure if this is related to raxxla (or more likely the dark wheel), or not. but it sure did peak my curiosity.
upon further investigation, it seems that this secret base was mentioned in John Harper's book : Elite : And here the wheel. does anyone know about this? might be something already investigated in this thread before, in wich case my apologies for bringing it up again. anything that has "secret" in it, immediatly makes me think of the dark wheel. lol

here's an interresting link to an elite fandom page that goes over soontill. for those unfamiliar with it. : https://elite-dangerous.fandom.com/wiki/Soontill
lots of mentions of 'the dark wheel' and 'hidden treasures' around soontill in that page.

That is shadows. Just found similar on random planet, when you come close to it - it is cracks in surface and star is like 60 degree behind, so it drops shadows which look like ore or plant from big distance.

no i dont think that specific spot on soontill 1 is shadows. it's a non landable planet after all. so it has no elevation in terrain.

it's a permanent and propably hand made visual feature on the planet, to indicate where the base once was. according to the lore, the base had to be destroyed to hide any remaining evidence of the weapon technology that was being developped there.-(something along those lines) and from looking at it, it does look like some huge explosion has happened there. it's quite a unique visual feature i think. i certainly have never seen any similar feature on a planet elsewhere.

The spot on Soontill is specifically from the book

*spoiler alert *

it's from the circles secret base which gets destroyed.

Sorry, i forgot how to put the spoiler box in here 😟

Edit: rumor has it that the soontill we know is a fake so we don't go looking for the real soontill. But im sure thats just a bunch of tin-foil talking 😉

what is it? Just gave me intel package ...but damn, it's a 1st discovery planet + ....i was flying around on fighter, I don't think i saw anything from the air ....

Spy satellite. If you look on the middle tab of the Nav panel it will tell you what superpower it belongs to (“Intel package for Empire/Federation/Alliance). They all do sneaky things, just like real governments!

In the text entry box with the row of icons at the top, go along to the three dots pull-down, which contains two spoiler options. 🙂

Going back to the PSR systems topic from earlier, i noticed one of them (possibly more) had an unknown permit lock....

I think raising the TDW influence was also attempted by Ben Ryder a few years back (find him a few posts in on the first page of this thread), They attempted to do it in Shinrarta Dezhra, but were also 'shutdown' if I remember correctly.

Could be that Shinrarta Dezhra is locked to the Pilot's Federation and thus all attempts will fail here, but that does not explain LFT 926.

Remember that Shinrarta is owned not just by the Pilots' Federation, but the Elite Federation of Pilots. The Dark Wheel (and the Club for that matter) is just a small subset (clique) of the EFP.

I was driven by highway plotter back to barnard's loop and stuck there of coz, then jumped around a little ....and got a thought.
I met system full of tasty planets like terraform, not mapped close. But system 1st discovery is by some guy "backer nnnn". I think last time this one was visited 4-5 years ago before permit lock on that low - range ships. Now you need to do detour and nobody goes to that remote corner ... what if raxxla / dw station is there? In forgotten region.

For example, "hidden station" from codex. Could be a tip that we need to rescan systems already scanned/visited old ago by using new FSS.

A bit OT, but I would like to mention that Venus i currently at it's strongest.
It's about 50 times more luminous than any star and is clearly visible long before it's dark.
It has been bright all vinter and is at it' grandest now. Go out and have a look tonight. 🙂
Yeh, watched once it in telescope this year...even saw half of its disk. However weather is so bad lately, didn't use scope for 2-3 years already >:
Also, if you have dedicated camera with optical zoom, you can try to do Venus, Jupiter. 20x is enough to see their disks. For Jupiter you will see 4 main moons too.
If you have manual control over camera, you want maximum diafragma and minimum possible sensitivity to avoid noise. Also you need long shoot time, however doing over 30s will show Earth rotation (without tracking mount).
