About a third

of my circumnavigation is complete. Nothing to report thus far, except that it's really black out here.

Do we believe that Raxxla is not permit locked? That is, do we think that it is possible to find it fortuitously? Or will it never be found until FD are good and ready to let us find it?

No. It is quite conceivable that Raxxla is permit locked. That would be kind of a cheat on Frontier's part but we have to consider the fact that Raxxla would be the ultimate "end game" event; not just for Elite: Dangerous but for the entire Elite series. Frontier could very well be holding Raxxla just out of reach until the game supports the kind of content that would really give unraveling its mystery the justice it deserves.

Look at The Formidine Rift mystery. We've been told that the original content boiled down to a derelict Anaconda ... until the game's maturity gave the developers the opportunity to replace that content with a much more impressive mega-ship. Raxxla is supposed to be a planet. Given the current state of the game what kind of planet could that possibly be? It would have to be some kind of place-holder content like that Anaconda was. If we were to find Raxxla tomorrow it could be such a disappointment that whoever stumbled upon it might not even realize that they'd found something important.

Supposedly Raxxla has been "in-game" since at least Gamma. That means before Horizons and before planetary landings. How much fun would finding Raxxla have been if we couldn't even land on the surface? Personally I'm hoping that Raxxla will be an Earth-like world and, if it is, that means that we currently can't visit the surface.

The longer it takes to find Raxxla the more extraordinary the discovery becomes (and the more likely Frontier will be accused of it not having existed back in Gamma like they said it did).

In any case it would make some sense for Frontier to want to save Raxxla until much later in the game's development and closer to when (if) they decide it is time to close down development.

There is good argument both for and against it being permit locked and therefore we continue to search and seek.

There is a system called Ra
XX could be the 20th planet
1a the moon.
Drat there is no 20th planet

Travel to the Ra system, drink 2/3 of a glass of XXX, spill the last third over a sacrificial virgin (don’t bother looking for one at Lave), crash into the first moon that looks promising and surface search by SRV until you die of boredom or achieve Nirvana (the Raxxla state)

It's not the Moon, it's Elon's Tesla.

Thought that was in Mars orbit? Be funny if the first alien artefact (hand-sized) is a pair of fluffy dice.....:D

I don't entirely agree, Doc. :)
As I already wrote, more than an "end game", I guess Raxxla Quest is more like an Eastern Egg, just for amateurs of the original Elite lore. Unless it is tightly tied to the Thargs storyline, of course, as always.
And finding it, imho, would not bring god-like powers to the finder. I suspect some witchspace-tied new capabilities (in the Oolite way, 8 portals network across the MW etc..).
I bet 80% of the player base don't care about R (unless they suspect they could get AAA - class weapons there..).

Hm, awkward to see that this "Mystery" is still around, cliffhanging with apparently no progress.

Kinda reminds me of this ;)

"Kind of a cheat" to put it mildly. It would be infuriating if Frontier have hinted it's out there and it turns out to have been inaccessible all this time.

Fdev never said you'd be able to find it or get to it - they only ever said it's there and they know where it is.

Plus, if it's Founder's World as some of us think, then you can totally access it anytime you want :)

I don't think you're actually disagreeing with me (because I wasn't making a statement intended to be taken as a solid fact). All I said is that Raxxla "would be" a perfect "end game" for the series. I didn't say that it actually is or even is intended to be an "end game". I was merely floating one possible theory among many. The thing with Raxxla is that, since we know so little, multiple possibilities could be true and so I like to keep an open mind about it.

Raxxla could be hiding in plain sight, somewhere in the Bubble, where players pass by ever day. It could be permit locked. Maybe it is hidden somewhere on the edge of the galaxy waiting for Macros the Black to stumble on it during his circumnavigation. All of those possibilities are mutually exclusive but, by current measure, they are each just as likely as any other alternative.

I fully concede that Raxxla may be a Easter Egg of sorts. Half the fun is floating possible theories and uncovering hidden connections. The other half is going out and testing those theories as best we can.
