You just have to bind it to keyboard commands in the Options menu. So, to talk to the current targeted ship, I type, "X" and up pops the text chat. To select somebody else to talk to, I type "Z" and I can select somebody else.

How would someone new to the game already know to bind a key to comms? There should be a default hotkey along with every other default hotkey in the game. Why does everything have to be so esoteric?
True but then again who doesn't go through all the key-bindings before playing the game? I mean, that's crazy right, you need to know what key does what!
I think they need to separate the chat streams so player messages don't get lumped in with the NPC/Station spam, it's so easy for it all to scroll out of sight before you see it.

I routinely send "evening Commander" messages to whoever I see flying around, I usually get a reply as long as they're not about to enter a station of drop from SC as they're too pre-occupied.

To be fair, supercruise is normally so short that if someone has hailed me I've already dropped back into normal space before I even notice and it's obviously too late to reply.

Does anyone know if a higher setting could cause this i have not tested in a lower end environment but i am running with a fairly high end system and as far as i know im running in window mode and the highest that i believe i can go in terms of settings when it comes to graphics.
Is there a file i can alter to get this to work.
Maybe another reason why people don't respond because they just cant. BTW this is a screenshot from the latest update just a few hours ago.
