The SCB (Shield Cell Bank) Thread

What about an SCB that instantly uses the charge you have in the "system" capacity towards your shields, once used, a timer dictates when you can use it again, if you use it too early you will fry your components and they will take damage.

If you want to also use it again you need to charge your "system" capacity bank again by applying powerplant power towards it.

Disclaimer, i do not want to nerf SCB's and tbh am not sure if this will make them too OP or too Nerfed. But SCB's would have infinite use until you are destroyed or need to repair.

The reason i am suggesting this however is because i've seen a lot of people saying that PVP is basically who has more SCB's and whoever runs out practically loses or has to run away.

Perhaps we should change this to a more skill based way of *when* you should use it, too late or too soon or just right.

I think as a balancing way, this would mean all ships would only be able to mount 1 module.

The benefits of only having to need 1 module would be more space to mount other modules like extra fuel tanks, ammo racks and extra armor or something. Which might make combat more interesting.

To add some more info to this suggestion.

What about a new range of weapons that are specifically used to counter shield cell banks. What this means is if player A has SCB's and player B doesn't, player B could opt to fit anti-SCB Weapons (ion cannon/ shield corruptor or something) that does no damage to hull but lots of damage to SCB components, but then again player B is vunerable to player C who has no SCB's yet has very strong hull weapons.

The result is a circle where player A is good against player C but player C is good against player B, whilst player B is good against player A's configuration.

Now this isn't meant to balance ship sizes, ship sizes should inherently mean stronger chance of winning because a couple of flies should not damage a giant anaconda, however, a swarm of flies should give a very good chance of beating an lone anaconda.

I guess we knew this was coming but still feels like A BAD DAY, SCBs ruined pvp now they are going to ruin NPC battles too <sadface>

I really enjoy it. Makes me think on my feet a little more facing a dangerous Anaconda stacked with them rather than sleepy pew pew until it's gone.

They even do more. For example really a lot of plasma and rockets now, condas trying to ram you everyday. My chair just burned.

You can build your ship for hours of swimming in an RES, or you can build your ship for punching straight through SCBs. Don't do the former, then complain that it's taking forever.

Exactly this, burst through the shield quickly and there's no issue. I'm no longer running pulse lasers and instead higher dps/less efficient weapons, eg beams/plasmas. I'm really liking the change,

They use them too late though, no issues with bringing shield down before recharge start.
They also seem to use more chaff now.

The day of reckoning is drawing closer.

Yep, NPCs are great now. My mining Python was attached by an NPC master fed gunship last night. She instantly opened fire and seemed to be making a proper effort to keep weapons on me, and quickly used chaff when under pressure. I still won fairly comfortably but was a little worried there for a minute!

Also was cool that I took out the power plant and she came to a full stop and just drifted there which was fun!

yep I an loving 1.4 had a fight in a HAZ res last night with a clipper and a fed gun ship. Was taking a beating in my clipper as I was trying to take out the NPC clipper and the Fed gun ship was attacking me so changed tac and took out the power plant on the clipper quick which left it sitting in space, then turned on the gun ship took that out and went back to the clipper which was still sitting there and finished that off.

1.4 is more off a challenge

I found SCBs to be very annoying in the first place, now they're even more annoying. :(

Ah well, time to adapt, using nothing but pulse lasers on my Vulture was getting boring anyway, time to see what else this baby can do.

I didn't realise this was going to happen.
I thought they were going to address it by reducing player use instead of increasing NPC use....oh well...

I guess its just time to start being choosy about the targets I take on, whats this SCB punching weapon(loadout) you speak of?
