The shareholders are partially responsible ?

ED's difficulties come from potential shareholder pressures for profitability ?

I remember that Frontier said it would stay the master of the project, but ...
Do you mean with the implementation of arx or something?

I'm not sure Frontier are undercutting their customers and the game just yet, but I'm not sure they're not working on it either. 🤷‍♂️

Bethesda are charging $100 for what is, basically, the equivalent of Private Groups... which we get for free in ED.

I'm tempted to say "I bet FDev's kicking themselves for not thinking of that" but, honestly, I suspect that's the sort of thing FDev's too ethical to consider.

Whaaaaaat? Ahahahahahaaaa!! They couldnt sell me 76 for £7:50 off some dodgy key shop! Its running on the same engine all the rest of their games use going back and its bascily the ignoble end of bethesdas fallout imo. Whos paying £100 for it? are they sane?

BTW tencent has lost billions* in market value last few years. An eye watering amount.

Never mind. Potentially divulging too much off-topic information.

Carry on... but perhaps also consider having a croissant and coffee and relaxing a bit. :)

Google told me. It wants to tell you too.

Here you go lazy... https://www.google.com/search?client=firefox-b-d&q=tencent+market+losses

The losses go back a few years aswell not just a dip. 51 billion in 2018...

Edit: the chinese did something about gaming addiction and harm i think. That hit them hard. Or eye strain or something...

Edit2 : WooHoo! https://www.investopedia.com/news/tencents-38-meltdown-may-be-just-beginning/

I hope Mr. Stocks was not managing your money :D

If there is a reference there i dont get it :)

I read all this when the report before last was posted in this forum. People going on about how amazing everything was and stuff so i thought i would have a look see if i felt it was worth putting money in. I didnt tbh but while i was reading i came across all the tencent stuff. I was amazed tbh they are big business but even the biggest has got to feel hits like that. They now have the record for the largest loss ever i think, taken from facebook tho who lost it all in one day. There is a tencent man on the fd board aswell i think i read :) I have wondered what they thought about how this game seems to be drving itself off a cliff. I wonder now if they are behind ARX aswell, chinese market is not like western market.

Well so far this community has blamed:
  • Ourselves
  • A select group who stated they speak for us
  • FDdev naturally
  • FD management
  • EDIT: Tencent (thanks go to Commander Factabulous for reminding me :D)
  • Other games made by Frontier
And now the shareholders. Is there anyone left we haven't blamed for this mess?
Surely this whole mess started with the Bush Administration.

On a serious note, Fdev management is the only one to blame. All issues are ultimately leadership issues, and the current failure shows the signs of BIG leadership issues

My bet is it TC driven. I don't believe for a second is was to help the players. The reference to you being asked to supply a citation by someone claiming to know the stockmarket.

The plot thickens... :cautious:

Anyway, what's good for the customers and the game should be good for Frontier and their shareholders too; at least in theory. Unfortunately in practice it doesn't always work out that way.

Guess we'll just have to wait and see what this 2020 business has to offer us.

Care to elaborate? I don't think that releasing free, buggy updates increases profitability. So which difficulties are you referring to?

I guess that ED's difficulties come from the fact that the majority of the team works on the 2020 update while only few devs are trying to release new content, bug fixes and other changes every 3-4 months. It's probably just too much.

The other problem is that they are trying to please the entire player base all the time.
To elaborate ? Not really.

I thought that the influence of shareholders could put pressure on a company.

Sorry, but pressure for what and in which direction?
If I take a look at share distribution there are 4 major shareholders outside of Frontier. Tencent and three asset managers. Admittedly I have absolutely no idea how all this financial stuff works, but to me it seems like companies like Oppenheimer Funds represent millions of investors and they absolutely don't care about the direction the game is heading as long as the company makes profits. I don't think they have a shareholder meeting where they decide if bugs should get fixed or not or if fleet carriers should be delayed. It's more likely they don't even know that Frontier even exists.
So I am not sure how they would have any meaningful impact on the games development.
