People should remember that in humans, sizes commonly vary by ~15%, significantly more if we include gender dimorphism, and that's in no way unique to humans. Also, zoo animals typically grow larger than their wild counterparts, because they are fed better. Claiming that Giganotosaurus should be 20cm longer than T-Rex for "scientific accuracy" is from my point of view pretty ridiculous, especially in a game where not even the Dromaeosaurids and Ornithomimids have feathers...
That being said, Giganotosaurus is not just a little bit smaller than the T-Rex, it's much smaller. And considering that Giganotosaurus is beloved because it was big, Frontier should have known that this is problematic. Not so much because of lack of accuracy, but because of the emotional connection people have to it and its size. If it was about scientific accuracy, people other than me* would be annoyed about the herbivores as well, but noone likes Chasmosaurus because it was half the length of Triceratops, so nobody is annoyed that it's almost the same size in the game...
*To be clear, I'm not so much annoyed by lack of accuracy as I am by unnecessary lack of diversity.
