The Smuggling discussion thread

My hands are still shaking from smuggling a full load of Imperial Slaves in an Anaconda for the 1st time! I dropped two heat sinks and 1 chaff on the way in from a straight shot approach. Made 5078 cr/ton for a 10min round trip of 2.2M. Never made that much per ton before now!

It's addicting too! Have fun CMDR!

The first few trips into the destination station with contraband onboard were a bit stressful....

Just wait until the first time you get caught up in the toastrack! ;)

I've learned where to position the ship so that I don't scrape the top or bottom. This last time made me turn around for a 2nd pass because I saw an Orca approach the slot. Figured I'd give him time to do his thing.

Nice! Would you mind to share your route as well? :)
Smugglers, unite!

PS: BTW, my jump range is pretty narrow (lesser than 14Ly at full load, Python optimized as an armored tank, prismatic shield is heavy!) so one may be able to do my route Easter.

Sent you a PM with a route to try

Smuggling in Sol

To increase my Federation rank, I've been smuggling anything I can find in Sol and neighboring systems using my Python. To do this efficiently, I accept all smuggling missions throughout all stations in the Sol system because all of the stations and factions are Federation. So, any mission counts toward my Federation ranking. Best of all, I don't have to go anywhere most of the time because the missions don't care if the Ancient Artifact, Trade Data, Rebel Transmission, Experimental Chemicals, Black Boxes, etc. were retrieved from the system designated by the mission. To get everything I need, I go a few km from the station and drop the throttle to zero (actually 30km/s) and wait for the weak signal source to pop in front of me and then I immediately drop into it. I use a limpet controller (despite the bugs) to get everything. Occasionally, authority ships drop in but a heat sink and quick exit avoids the scan. Occasionally, pirates drop in but ignore me most of the time. If I finish collecting before the pirates leave, I swat them for quick bounties. Then, after I filled my cargo hold with every imaginable salvage, I head to each station and accept the relevant smuggling missions (and any cash charity donation missions). Since I already have lots of each type of designated artifact, I'm able to immediately complete the mission. Between the smuggling and cash charity donation missions, I'm able to complete about 2 to 6 missions at each station. By the time I've visited each station, I repeat visiting each station because the bulletin boards have updated by then. My smuggling technique is to request docking at 7.5km from the station, drop a heat sink around 5km from the station, and cruise in the slot at 50 to 75% throttle (no last minute boost!). But at 8km before I start my run to enter the station, I first make sure the slot is reasonable clear - no big ships near the entrance - because I'm flying a big ship and I don't want any crash that would attract attention. In the last 3 hours, I probably completed about 20-30 missions while having an exciting time eluding authority and pirate ships that harassed me at the WSS sites. When I'm tired of this, I drop by the nearest black market and dump the remainder of my hold or keep it until the next time I log in to complete a bunch of other missions to help my Federation rank.

Smuggling in Utopia Antal's Space - a bit of a challenge for smugglers

Hi Folk,

It's been a while since I posted anything about smuggling so I thought I'd share a route in Antal space near the capital. By the way, I don't ever smuggle slaves of any kind, it's not very sporting.

This route is a bit more of a challenge the average and could be fun for power players and lone wolfs too as it adds the hostile elements like check points, bounty hunting, check poinst and conflict zones in to the mix.

There are a few check points that spawn security ships and a couple of conflict zones in the area to spice things up.

Fines and bounties in the area are up by 50% to 100% and Utopia's rank 5 players get a up 100% on bounties handed in within their systems.

Buy battle weapons and personal weapons in Laval Terminal in Inarajajara System, near Polevnic and sell them at Okorafor Station in HIP 493 system and make 2100 cr profit on the battle weapons and 1600cr on the personal weapons.

The get a refreshing cuppa for the return trip and make some credits on tea from Siodmak City in the same system for the journey back to Inarajajara (600cr profit). So you're looking at up to 2700cr profit per run and all within one jump of a bounty hunter hot spot.

It's a bit more of a challenge than average.

Have fun.

Thanks for this Ben!
Should my adventures lead me into Utopian space I'll give it a go.

Your willingness to smuggle weapons and not slaves is interesting, though. The purpose of a slave is to help its master, while the purpose of a weapon is to kill... I would've thought that facilitating help would be preferable to facilitating death. Oh well, it's just something to mull over during those long supercruise trips. Not trying to lecture on morality - I mean, y'know who I work for, right? ;)

Mulled over a long time ago and completely unshakable. Which is why I chose to build toward Utopia rather than enslave people everywhere I go.

I have a code of sorts. It's very simple. A slave is a human. A gun is an object. A slave has all their choices taken away from them. A slave is a human that is treated inhumanely and objectified. Slave trade is unsporting and simply bad taste.

Selling weapons does not take anyone's liberty directly away from tem. It's up to the owner to pull the trigger in defense or aggression. Either-way the choice is still there.

I do not profit by turning humans in to property or objects. A gun is an object, a piece of property.

A gun is simply a tool that can be used for good or evil.

I'm no preacher. I'll not interfere with slave traders about their business nor tell them to change their ways. It's their choice. One that I would not take away. It's simply not my cup of tea.

I truly admire your particular brand of moral gymnastics to help you sleep at night tucked away safely in your spaceship. Here is mine: I deal in imperial slaves. These guys are stuck in a system that makes them choose between a life of poverty or giving up a large part of their life as indentured servants, and it is my honor to take them from their servitude and deliver them to some business associates of mine in the black market in a system where slavery is banned. Now the decision on what to do with them is up to my business associates, it is not my fault. I mean someone might be so happy with their ehrrmm... service... that they free them, or they can escape and run to the nearest federation police officer and become free again! Either way I am doing no wrong, if anything I am giving them a possible chance of something better.

The fact that I make 2.5 million off of every transaction makes no difference. I sleep on my spaceship on a pile of money surrounded by many beautiful space women.

All in all I concur with you.

Slave lives matter.

I see myself as kind of like a space Harriet Tubman.... mhhhhhhmmmm yes......

Smuggling convoys vs economic state of a system

Hi Commanders,

I have found some information (wiki, forum...) about that, but never got a clear answer, or even observed contradiction on the field.

When do "Seeking Goods" (buying narcotics) or "Seeking Luxuries" (buying performance enhancers) convoys* actually spawn in a system?

I know that "Seeking Weapons" EDIT: "should"...because that is actually not what i have ovserved recently spawn in systems at war. I believed the other two above spawn when a system experiences an economic bust / boom (or the other way around?) but have already found some where the system was in lockdown...

Could anybody provide a 100% accurate answer? We could then have use of these economic reports from Galnet...

*: For those who don't know, you would need to drop from supercruise at the convoys location, then fly close to one of the T9s which will beam your narcotics / enhancers / weapons to their cargo hold, then transfer the credits (they buy at the highest price!) to your account.

Currently in Lusonda, where there is only one station, the faction owning the station is in lockdown.
There is also another faction in economic boom.
No convoy there...

I think most of these are in most systems at USSs, however, I have never worked out how to interact with them etc.

Nope, those spawn within systems if some conditions are met.
They are visible on the navigation panel (they must have some kind of beacon).

Why would anyone bother with them? Because last time for instance, some "Seeking Goods" convoys spawned at Comanga, where cheap narcotics are sold.
I could buy them at the station, supercruise for about 10s to the convoy and sell them over 2000cr/t profit. Rinse, repeat, no need to jump + no need to smuggle to station = quick profit without risk to be scanned!

Cool: I look forward to seeing what others have to say, in this thread, a worth while venture if it can be worked out. Good luck.

The Comanga seeking goods appeared when the system controlling faction (Conservatives of Comanga) went into lockdown state. Not sure if it has to be the controlling faction or not.

Yep, that's what i remember as well...now as per my current experience at Lusonda, minor faction, owning the only station of the system, in lockdown, does not spawn any convoy(yet?)...

I hope these convoys are not bugged, i really would like to use these economic reports from Galnet...
