Why is it that the humble minority is the most shouty?
I think Rupert knows...

The delay in offering an offline option was, itself, because the devs wanted every single player, including those that prefer to play alone, to still influence the same galaxy.

I'm a Solo player. There I've said it - out of the closet. I'm playing in the ignorance that I'm having a good time.
It is a game. I love this game. Thank you FD for bringing Elite back to me. It started for me back in 84. I have not been disappointed (did I mention the Cobra 4)
These are some of my observations and opinions and they should be yours.
Nice post...
You know, I kind of like the Cobra Mk IV, but then maybe I'm strange.Lots of compartments to put things like SRV's in and so on. Yeah, not exactly fast, but I think I'll buy one in the main game. Why not. It was the first ship I landed on a planet in ED.
Fly safe CMDR, and if you're having fun, then you are doing it right, unlike, one must presume, the others...![]()
I am so confused right now because I literally didn't know there were two models. Sigh.
Of the Cobra?
Yep. Never knew. Hoping I don't have the "bad" one.
At that point, a health and safety intervention was needed.
The shared is Elite's greatest hubris. You know what happens afterwards...![]()
Oh and back to your comment about SOLO ad GROUP being part of the game form the beginning, WRONG... SOLO and GROUP were supposed to Offline and LAN/Online LAN versions of the game seperat fromt he OPEN world. they changed it at the last minute and decided to instance the servers so everyone played together.
they want to be a part of the OPEN world by taking part in powerplay and everything else. Why should you get to earn the same amount in everyhting on a game without accepting the risk that comes with OPEN mode, it is not fair, and if you think it is, you do so because it benefts yourself and those with your like mind. Like I said before I will always believe that using SOLO and Group mode to hide while effecting change in a PvP based OPEN environment is cowardly and it is hiding. Whether you like it or not it is the truth. If you are insulted by that, then I apologize, but apparently the truth hurts. As far as solutions,
<snip>
Once again, people love to twist and manipulate words on a forum... to see insults where there was nothing but truth being told. It is what it is, every forum has those kind of people. I never said in the first place that SOLO was a WRONG way to play, or GROUP for that matter, my view was that if you want to play by yourself, then do so, just don't affect my game. If you only want to play with your friends, then you should do so, but don't affect my game. SOLO and GROUP modes should not have any bearing whatsoever on OPEN mode (that is my opinion and a shared one by many who originally started these threads but got tired of listening to SOLO and GROUP players whine about how being treated differently because they don't want to interact with people on an ONLINE MULTIPLAYER GAME ( I mean seriously that makes sense to you; "I'm going to go and play an online multiplayer game, but nope, I'm never interacting with anyone else... nope not me....")).... If you don't want to play with other people, then don't, but you should not be able to undermine me or anyone else that is having to defend themselves in OPEN play. You should be in your own little world, exactly where you want to be ALL BY YOURSELF, or with your friends, only affecting yourself or each other. It still surprises me that a group of people that are so adamant about not wanting to interact with other people in this game, are the ones crying the most about being separated and put in their own little world..... I mean isn't that what you want, to be left alone, to be by yourselves or with just your friends..... That would solve all your issues, no more putting up with the big bad PvPers and Pirates and whatever else it is you don't want to interact with.... I mean honestly, they could just move all of you to a separate server and it's not like you would even realize it. You could have your own powerplay, and do your own thing without ever having to deal with other people, and we wouldn't have to worry that our hard work in the game is being undermined by someone we can't stop, because he's invisible to us.
FAQ- Elite: DangerousHow will single player work? Will I need to connect to a server to play?
The galaxy for Elite: Dangerous is a shared universe maintained by a central server. All of the meta data for the galaxy is shared between players. This includes the galaxy itself as well as transient information like economies. The aim here is that a player's actions will influence the development of the galaxy, without necessarily having to play multiplayer.

I actually thought it was a great idea, it's very fair, and risk rewarding, the more risk you take the better the reward...
While you are of the opinion that Open should not be affected by the other modes, you should read the game design elements that Frontier published over three years ago, specifically:
From the outset, the game has been designed around the principle that every player experiences and affects a single shared galaxy state.
Do you not remember that SOLO was also supposed to be OFFLINE, where you wouldn't need a connection to play? The current version, or the one you are talking about, was after they made the change to require an internet connection to play all modes. It would have been much better in my opinion, if they had kept the SOLO mode offline, so these people could go play by themselves, just my opinion.... but nevertheless it would cause alot less headache

This includes the galaxy itself as well as transient information like economies. The aim here is that a player's actions will influence the development of the galaxy, without necessarily having to play multiplayer.
The other important aspect for us is that we can seed the galaxy with events, often these events will be triggered by player actions. With a living breathing galaxy players can discover new and interesting things long after they have started playing.
Update! The above is the intended single player experience. However it will be possible to have a single player game without connecting to the galaxy server. You won't get the features of the evolving galaxy (although we will investigate minimising those differences) and you probably won't be able to sync between server and non-server (again we'll investigate).

DEAR antony... I am sorry you have a slow PC, been there done that, built a new one.... As far as my opinion goes, I am happy that you made friends, and that you play together, I personally believe that is a good thing, I also enjoy playing with other people online, as far as my argument goes, I thought it through very thoroughly.... I gave a very creative solution... Now, lets poke some holes in yours....
other 31 people.....the only people in there were the few that ran, combat logged and were never seen from again, and the rest of the crew I was flying with, which included people working together over multiple time zones for pretty much the entire week.....
The XBox version wasn't released when all this happened.... so there goes that...
Horizons wasn;t out yet either so nothing there....
Gosh I hate it when people don;t read the previous posts and get their facts straight before posting.... don't you hate that?

With all the insults you used, with words I won't repeat, about solo and group players themselves.. you clearly stated that the way they play was the wrong way to play according to you. You can claim I am twisting all you want to try to deflect and make yourself the victim, but you and you alone wrote those words that emphasised that those that did not play in open were of a lesser caliber, underhanded, and of a questionable moral character whilst also lacking a backbone.
Here is something you don't comprehend.. even playing in solo.. a person is playing multi player, they affect the BGS. Just because they cannot seem some or all of the people online does not lessen the fact that they are still playing and contributing to multi player.
And you claim that solo and group players are the ones who are whining, the ones who have the issues. Yet go through the entire SOG mega threads.. All three of them.. who are the ones that whine the most and demand change... here is a clue.. it is NOT Solo or Group players again you try to deflect from your own whining to make yourself and PVPers seem like the victims... far from it.
Heck next you will want to ban all explorers because they found a planet and got their name on it and you never saw them do it..
I am sure you will be willing to buy him a new PC .. I mean telling someone to "just build a new one" is rather arrogant.
32 people is the hard cap for seeing.. but usually the max is 16 if that.. so while you and your "crew" were flying.. others flying in Open, Solo, and Group all came through your system...
And your little baiting barb about not reading previous posts.. pretty arrogant as well for you to say since it is clear you haven't either.. and people claim I'm passive aggressive sometimes.. sheesh.
