Let's just call Solo/Private Group what it REALLY is: a Stealth Mode exploit.
This is so... I can't even
The problem is that with PP/CG there's no way to "stop" anyone undermining you without you sitting there 24/7 doiIf everyone were in open then there's a good chance you can influence them by blasting them out of your sky...
Again, you have the exact same mechanisms to counter a faction's actions as everyone does. It's been explained many times here that a blockade simply does not work because of the structure of the matchmaker and network. The same goes for "blasting them out of the sky." You're only going to see a tiny percentage of open players in your same instance. Dunno if you were here for the Lugh demonstration...
As
Mouse said, ""There is no "your sky" it is everyones."
Problems solved! Open players get what they want...
It appears not, as they come here complaining that "open is a barren wasteland" because the majority have chosen a different mode to play.
But now that FDEV is a publicly-traded company, let's let their yearly financial reports speak to that, shall we?
Right there is your "meta-game," your orientation and your attitude exposed.
Again, people keep confusing personal satisfaction and self-fulfillment with rewards.;
I am not at all confused. You don't seem to understand the word "reward." Here is a helpful definition:
re·ward
(rĭ-wôrd′)n.1.
A consequence that happens to someone as a result of worthy or unworthy behavior: the rewards of exercise; the rewards of lying to your boss.
2. Money offered or given for some special service, such as the return of a lost article or the capture of a criminal.
3. A satisfying return on investment; a profit.
4. Psychology-
The return for performance of a desired behavior; positive reinforcement.
tr.v. re·ward·ed, re·ward·ing, re·wards To give a reward to or for.
[Middle English, from Anglo-Norman, from rewarder,
to take notice of : re-, intensive pref. (from Latin; see warder in Indo-European roots)]
So now, let's add the missing reward component to your example. Now, a company pays 5k bucks to whoever reach the top of the mountain. Does it matter how you climb it? No, It only matters to reach the top and you can use whatever tools you see fit, or none at all. And the time matters? Neither, you can take as long as you wish to climb. And does it matters to be the first? No, Everyone who reach the top will get the 5k bucks.
This strangely seems like a great argument for the modes.
Welcome to the Solo vs Open debate.
Uh... I've been here for awhile. You're the new guy.
Oh don't forget that the usual rockhounds will tell you "Keep climbing solo-free dude, because you are not suffering more risks than us.... There is only risk if you fall out the mountain."
You appear to know nothing about rock climbing.
I still think FD is WRONG with their decisions on the matter. So yes, I perfectly know what FD said, and his intentions. I keep believing they are mistaken.
There is no "he" - FD is a company. DB is a person. Sales figures for ED support the conclusion that they are
not mistaken.
I could say the same from solo players. They some (not all) have developed the attitude of a resented ex-girlfriend who now only wishes harm to his former boyfriend.
The problem with this post, as it is in many similar posts, is the jeering and condescending antagonism that reveals the inner player. It is also why so many people wouldn't care to play a game with you.
This is an atittude that frankly amuses me, for one simple reason: Let's say the 'clever' plan 'succeeds', and Open mode becomes a wasteland. What do you think will happen the morning that FD sees that out of 50.000 players connected, 49.600 are in solo/group and only 400 in open? Make a wild guess...
I'd hazard a guess that they'd think, "So, those noisy, aggressive players appear to have been wrong. People seem to enjoy solo/private group more than open. Let's keep the 3 modes as they are."
The problem will be probably exacerbated with the introduction of CQC, since the remaining players that stayed in Open for the legitimate PvP, will ultimately migrate to CQC, where they can find exactly what they want without the burdens of Open play.
And that's great for them! They get what they want; everybody wins.
But don't worry, we'll have another threadnought about "The unfair advantages of open players vs solo players".
Actually, the complaining seems to be mostly on the open side. Not only that,
it's a small percentage of open players, not the bulk of them.
By all means keep encouraging people to leave Open for Solo, as it only accelerates the proccess. The more players bleed from one mode to the other, and the larger the gap between modes, the more evident and visible the problem will be, to ultimately reach a point in where FD can't longer keep their heads buried on the sand.
It's really posts like yours that encourage people to go into solo/group to avoid such players. And why would FD change a core feature of the game to please a minority of players in a single mode when it appears the majority (by a long shot) are quite happy playing and using the three modes?
