Awww, c'mon .. what's to stop me starting some half-brained idea tomorrow in which I start a private group and recruit members in order to prove a point and start screwing with power play and the whole mechanic?

Mobius has thousands of members. Why not my new group? One goal. To screw it all up and mess with PP.

And what are you going to do to stop it?
Oh yeah, nothing. Quite simply because that's how it works.

If that's flawed and unfair, fine.
It's how the game was designed, so suck it up..

I'd join that group :D
Not sure how much impact you can have on PP, but would be a laugh trying.

So, you would play the game in the way it is meant to be played, in order to mess with the people playing the game the way it was meant to be played?

I like the cut of your jib, sir!

Mess up PP ? You'd play the game the way it's meant to be played and you call it "messing it up" ? You'd just support a power like everyone else.

Relayer, Jockey, Mouse, sorry guys, looks like my rep gun is out of ammo.

Same PhazonAran but I always try to rep worthy posts.

Well, not really. It's a 5th column kind of tactic, and groups are using it even now to mess with the balance in a way that others have no control over.
It's sad, unfair and annoying.

Anyways... i like my idea now. I reckon a group on the scale of Mobius could bring this game to its knees. Just to prove a point.
And people love doing this kind of thing. Proving a point.

I think there has been two or three times in the UK that a crappy popular Xmas song by some hokum group has been manufactured and advertised, promoted and released all in order to get the number one slot for Xmas.
And on those occasions a ripple of disapproval and disgruntlement has started up and in the end thousands have gathered and gone out or purchased online and made a different chosen tune go to number one instead. Power to the people, this time around.

Anyways, not in the world of Elite... If Mobius or any other group that forms wants to mess with, control, dictate. They can.

No faction. One goal. Screw you.

Though i guess in my example this could have been changed.

what is most laughable is the idea that Mobius is some coordinated group of 10000 that are all for the same power..

I'd hazard a guess that they'd think, "So, those noisy, aggressive players appear to have been wrong. People seem to enjoy solo/private group more than open. Let's keep the 3 modes as they are."

Or they could think "Less than 10% of our customers / player base are using open - let's just go on with two modes: Solo and Group."

If (won't happen, I know) FD would fulfill the demand some Open advocates had in this 3-part-threadnaught to use different servers (BGS) for solo/group and for open, that would be an even more rational choice - why waste money in maintaining a server only a small percentage of my customers are using?

On a more personal note: If I want to socialize, I call (or email) some friends and go out. If I'm playing computer games it is usually after a long and exhausting day in the office to enjoy me, myself and I without human interference. I still do not understand why each and every game in the recent years needs a multiplayer (or even better so: a mandatory multiplayer). Imposing an allways-on mutliplayer on SimCity was the final nail in Maxis' coffin, I suppose.

Sometimes I miss those days, when communicating meant "talking to each other" instead of "What's Apping across the table" - but I'm drifting off topic now.

Or the idea that anyone cares about PP in the first place, beyond people who thought it would let them shoot Marvin in the face and found out otherwise.

I didn't say that dude. I said it can happen. And that sucks big time my friend.

I misread that line, missed the word "like", yet why does it suck? The thing is .. anyone can try to influence. If people want to band together.. they can do it in group, they can do it over chat, or "gentlemen's agreement" there is multiple ways to do it. Others can organize too.. it is like political parties. Or independents can put their efforts in too.

Sure, there are... like i play with my thousand organised friends in solo and screw your trade route into the ground, in your territory, behind your back, in a private group.

Enjoy.

You do realise that everyone is laughing so hard now, they can barely type for wiping away the tears... It is like watching a Liam Neeson gif with a random word generator! Keep going though, this is comedy gold and keeping me amused whilst I grind charity missions :)

I'm in Cubeo, I trade with Diaba.. enjoy and have fun with it.

Diaba takes tea, coffee, and animal meat.. can be bought in Cubeo at Cheloney Orbital for about 1338 for meat and coffee and tea at 1520, can be sold at Diaba at about 1639 and 1840 resepectivly. Then I fill up with Marine Equipment at 3738 and sell at 4602. Takes 7 to 9 jumps and will require 1 at least with a 16 fuel cell.
