It wasn't?:

There is a reason why when I deleted it, it didn't change anything about the point of my post. It was mostly about the current business practice with Open/Solo as a gripe.

You had, in bold - twice, to separate the modes.

That makes it a valid merge target. Editing it out now, does not solve a thing or remove the quotes people did from your request to mess with the modes. If your main issue is trust, then you should have talked about your lack of trust not whine about the modes.

Then I welcome to everyone who replied about the modes to just read the whole post next time, instead of just immediately replying when they see Open and/or Solo

Funny thing is, I *did* read your whole post, even quoted separate parts of it.
You were getting beaten in your argument and tried to backtrack. If you were winning in the debate, you wouldn't have changed a thing.

You talked about 2 things, the modes and trust.

The modes, applies to everyone.
Trust is a personal issue, I trust FD - you don't.
Nothing to talk about apart from compare reasons, yours won't change my mind and mine won't change yours.

I edited it out before the merge.

That's why I didn't just remove it immediately when everyone started focusing on Open/Solo, because I knew people would say 'Haha I was beating you so now you just remove that part'
The point was NOT Open/Solo, but that's all you people saw.

I knew you were going to say that.

See how easy it is to claim something after it happens?

EDIT: I didn't know you were going to say that, I'm just making a point.

Jesus Christ, why do you people only want to argue? The point of my thread was not to start an argument with people who are rabid about 1 aspect of the game, but to try to let FD know that communication is not bad thing.

But they do communicate, check out my last link in my sig.
It's the player base that does not listen, or only take part of it in and jump to conclusions afterwards.

There is a whole archives section on the forums - that can show you exactly what FD have been saying since the start.

So if FD where to remove the influence of solo on open I would not shed a single tear.
It would not influence my enjoyment of the game.

To be perfectly honest, so long as I could still change modes at will (which is a vital and advertised part of the game, necessary so i can play with my mates when needed as well as drop into solo when my internet is not good enough for multiplayer) I would not lose much sleep over it either....... Truth is, it would probably actually benefit me as this would mean it would be FAR less likely for my quiet little trade routes to dry up because if only "open" affected the BGS supply and demand, then me hammering a route would not affect it (a couple of my most profitable routes are only good for me for maybe half a dozen trades before I have to let them fallow as me alone is enough to satify the demand for a few hrs)

but think about this.... how long before the "open" players started to complain about this? not having solo or group players affect the BGS would be seen as a HUGE exploit imo where we could run a route indefinitely without affecting the BGS, but others in open profits go down on each run.

I cant help think the OP of this statement of not having solo/group affect the BGS did not really think it through.

And as i said, imo blocking group swapping is simply not going to happen so players may as well stop complaining about it now. it was a promised feature detailed by the devs many times, and confirmed it is not gonna happen. DB himself explained it is important and demoed why, by playing the game on a tethered 3G connection on the train. Try doing that in open (or on many hotels complementary wifi)

not all of us who play elite get to play on a permenant set up in our bedrooms. many of us travel for work and have to play in all sorts of places and the game was advertised as allowing us to do this (and without having to start our game from scratch for the privilege .

In my OP I was mostly talking about the communication about stuff the community is mad about, like merit decay and other problems in powerplay or the background simulation of the universe which isn't simulating anything. The questions that get answered by the devs are easy questions that result in prancing around the problems that should be adressed. The most we get is: 'We have passed this on to the devs' and then nothing.

So ... let me get this straight ... Your point now is that Frontier don't communicate?
They're not going to tell you, me or anyone outside of Frontier, what they have planned until they are ready to do so.
They have two community mangers who engage with the community all the time.
They have their Executive Producer, Michael Brookes who posts on here all the time.
Various other employees from Frontier post on the forum all the time.

And you want to claim Frontier don't communicate?

You should have been here before the kickstarter. ;)

.... and you are similarly welcomed not to split your OP between two (or more topics), at least one of which has been debated for over two and a half years now and will be merged with the main thread on the topic.

You told me that you read my OP. I'm tired of saying the same thing over and over. Everything is in the OP. It's not about the lack of communication, it's about the wrong kind of communication. If FD was doing everything right, they wouldn't have to communicate at all, look at Rockstar Games, you have no idea what they're working on, but everyone trusts they'll do a good job on whatever they're working on.

Ah wrong type of communication ... in whose opinion? Yours? Do you have a degree in PR then? No? 'Nuff said.

Oh and I don't trust Rockstar at all after all the times they've shafted the PC players in favour of the console players.

EDIT: What MadMike says below VV ... and I'm done replying to your backtracking Gidio.

R* have a LOT more disposable money to be able to get it right 1st time however....... and lets not get too rose tinted about it... from a PC perspective they have not gotten everything right. GTA IV was a terrible port to PC, infact up uptill number 5 they were all pretty poor ports imo..... and many people thought that as a game GTA IV was clunky and pretty damn dull. Personally I quite liked it but only after using a sledge hammer to make it run properly (ie a rig which did not exist on the games launch!).. but the controls were horrible, and often was a fight to make your character do what you actually wanted him to imo)

LA noire was locked at 30fps, and really it was only max payne when things started to look up in terms of PC getting some love imo and even then they still take their sweet time getting the games out there for PC - if they even bother (Red dead redemption).

I actually have a degree in general management, sales and marketing. Albeit I only graduated a year ago. So yes, I know how to communicate with consumers.

Exactly, and still people blindly get hyped to hell and back every time they announce something. So that means they're doing something right.
With Horizons a lot of people immediately started looking for flaws, this time being, the price. Although I think the price is justified.

It's easy to see why Elite fan's get annoyed by the constant musings of armchair game developers. This post I'm sure, was meant to be well thought out, but I honestly didn't get a concrete desire or want or idea throughout the whole message. It would seem the post suffers from that mile wide inch thick problem.

If you would read the forum from time to time, you would see they are working on what you talk about. There is a huge powerplay discussion thread where they take on suggestions relating to the problems many of the people actually playing powerplay have highlighted. They have provided their own suggestions to those problems too.

In threads relating to the BGS Sandro has posted that they are well aware of some of the issues and are will be expanding on what it is capable of over the course of the games development.

They do engage with the players, the fact that they do not do so in every thread is because we, as players, regurgitate the same discussions and it would be a waste of their time to reiterate again and again simply because we have opened yet another discussion on the subject.

I agree, FDEV don't have the grace of many other companies when it comes to communicating information, but they do engage, they do respond and they do take on board what their community says. Hell, they have even responded to me and I am possibly the most insignificant member of the community.

I actually have a degree in general management, sales and marketing. Albeit I only graduated a year ago. So yes, I know how to communicate with consumers.

So you have paperwork to show that you know the theory - trust me when I say, theory and practical application are 2 different beasts altogether.
Shown by your lack of communication skills in your OP and how it lead to the wrong thing - a merger into the pit of doom.
All your back tracking is also not helping, you must have covered how to exit a failing conversation properly and that backtracking makes you look guilty of trying to be deceitful.

So, if I were you - I'd get my money back on that course. Also, you may not want to criticise others on their communications until you've mastered yours.

Oh and a helpful hint - Soliluna hit the nail on the head;
"They do engage with the players, the fact that they do not do so in every thread is because we, as players, regurgitate the same discussions and it would be a waste of their time to reiterate again and again simply because we have opened yet another discussion on the subject."

And in regards to this topic, again if you want communications - see the last link in my Sig, 2 and a half years of information by FD.
As to your trust issues, well I cannot help with that - in my eyes FD are doing everything they said they would do from what I have seen so far.

I actually have a degree in general management, sales and marketing. Albeit I only graduated a year ago. So yes, I know how to communicate with consumers.

...and still people blindly get hyped to hell and back every time they announce something. So that means they're doing something right.

Point the first - if your degree was worth the paper it was printed on, you would have gone ahead and posted an edited, clarified version of your trust post, changing the language to try and invite discussion on that particular point once you saw the merge and could very clearly read what the merge was caused by.

Point the second - A lot of people were hyped about Daikatana (oh, the lulz), a lot of people are hyped about Star Citizen, a lot of people were hyped about Elder Scrolls Online, the hype matters not how the game turns out, nor the long term success, the only thing it displays is that they spent more resources on pretty press release hype. I'd prefer that Frontier spend 99.9% of their resources on making the game better rather than mollifying people that need shiny press releases and four page fold out spreads in Edge magazine to justify liking a game.

Now, an editorial. I think Rockstar games are almost universally awful. This strongly suggests different approaches for different people, so Frontier has to read their audience and perhaps, just perhaps, there are reasons as to why they communicate the way they do. Frontier's method isn't perfect for me and there are things I wish they would do, but generally I can deal with it and I know how to dig for the details that matter to me. After having spent just a little time among the wider community of Elite, I really do understand what they do and why they do it, so if that's lost on your average Reddit mook, I don't think it's all Frontier's fault.
