There was a 6th form common room, but that was for the toffs. We took over an old storeroom and re-purposed it - much drunken stuff went down in there.

Our school couldn't afford a common room - we had to make do with a sink hole that appeared in the chemical waste disposal area the local council thoughtfully installed in the school car park.
As luck would have it - the construction company that was converting the disused factory next to our school into a prison was kind enough to donate sacks of freshly ground asbestos that we used to line the sink hole and make it more comfy.
In winter the local winos that used to congregate outside the public toilets over the road would collect used condoms (we used to call them "rubber johnnys" in those days) and wee in them so we could use them as makeshift hot water bottles in the winter - happy days.
Joking apart I just don't think you'd see that kind of community spirit these days!!!!!
