Ima jump into here again for just one post:
I think it is pointless to discuss the reasoning behind the groups (I myself find it 'okay' that you can switch between single, group and multiplayer) and that every mode impacts the background sim and powerplay (this however, is complete nonesense in my opinion, it destroys every kind of strategical play and mass control).
As a conclusion I would rather suggest to discuss balancing between the modes as solo and group modes being clearly the 'right' aka 'best' way to play ED assuming progress is what you want (which is the common goal in ED -> credits -> bigger ships ->more credits -> more ships -> more possibilities).
An open PvE mode would further destroy the "dangerous" behind the "Elite:" tag. The galaxy is, by far, not dangerous.
That said, I think we all can agree that solo is the beginner mode, co-op/group the beginner mode for friends (and a good way to teach a friend the game) and open being the normal mode. Playing a multiplayer game how it should be.
So, what do you guys think about player rewards? The easiest example would be to increase the reward for killing a player, let's say the bounty fines are icnreased by 5. A palyer would easily get a high bounty. Ofcourse we need to adress stuff like "Hey, yo! Let's undermine and after tha twe kill eachother in a sidey to get credits!". Only getting the insurance costs of that palyer's ship as a reward would be a start. So a sidey can easily pass by with 10 million cr. bounty but he will only lose 10.000 creidts if killed by an NPC or player.
Take this idea and change it as you please and in the end it is just an example, not the ultimate solution to everything.
Now, to conclude: Let's talk about mode-balancing rather than the never ending discussion about choices already being made by FD (seperate saves, etc.). While I am not happy with FD's decisions, I can partly agree with some of them.
EDIT: Sorry for typos (if they are any, which is quite likely) ... I was tired when writing this.

One slight problem there, you're working on assumption that members of a particular Private Group only ever play in that Private Group. If you were a member you would see that is not the case and would in fact see people moving about between all three game modes. In fact, they seem to move around at will, as if they had a free choice of how they wish to play the game... Fancy that!

Of course I never made that assumption.
Moebius players are a minority of the total playerbase.
<chortles>
can u explain to us why modes isnt balanced? cause i think 2 threads bk noone was able to actualy prove it....
Of course I never made that assumption. If Moebius players are in fact playing in other modes (which I assumed they do (fancy that!)), it would still make little difference to my original point. Moebius players are a minority of the total playerbase. I would consider any other claim extraordinary, and I feel it would require extraordinary evidence to supportLinks to megathreads and walls of texts indicate nothing but opinion, and to me, are of as little importance in some ways to that "fictitious" pie chart. My solution is better than just accepting the Moebius group into the main menu option, as it is fair on the other large private groups (who may share the playerbase with Moebius). I agree that people should be free to mode switch however they please, all the game modes are equally valid.

Yes you did, you even created a pie chart to support that assumption.
Even when they play in Open? Are they still in the minority then? So what mode is the majority of the player base in then please, as you have the official figures to make that statement?
"Yes you did, you even created a pie chart to support that assumption."
No it was actually to illustrate the definition of "minority", as the person I was responding to seemed to have some difficulty with the concept

Yes, The number of people aware of the group and who are active in the group remain the same, regardless of their playstyle and mode switching habits. It is still 11000 or so people. If YOU do not consider them Moebius players when they go into Open for any period of time, then it only serves to SHRINK the percentage of players who are in Moebius![]()

You still seem to be confused on the Mobius group and PVE thing. As far as I'm aware no-one is asking for the Mobius group to be accepted into the main menu option.
Perhaps if you can show us posts where people are requesting that the Mobius group be accepted into the main menu we can see where the confusion is coming from?

I understand. Over the last week, it has been suggested several times.

You can review the thread if you wish, I am currently hunting around ErvateIt would be a bit of a multi task for me.... But if i was honestly mistaken and nobody is in favor of this, that is fine. I see no reason to advocate against its inclusion into the menu system, if nobody actually supports the position anymore
My solution is better (in my opinion).
Nice example of a logical fallacy whilst avoiding my direct question. However, I will answer your question, I consider that players are players and whatever game mode they play in, is as irrelevant as this thread. I blame the docking computer. You do know that there are PvP orientated Private Groups as well, yes?
Oh you do like to clip a quote "asking for extra CR for the extra risk (of flying in a wing with 3 pals to protect them & getting 15% trade bonus already). "
I am starting to see why they both blocked you now. I have still not blocked a single person after 14 months, and some have been damn right abusive / insulting, and yet I am considering it with you, you excel sir!
Why? You wouldn't use it and are REALLY happy in the current Open mode, that's fine. Why do you want people who would prefer to use such a mode to be less than optimally happy with the game?I am glad there is no PvE mode.

...just pretend that every other player not in your particular instance is actually playing Open and that the matchmaker just hasn't seen fit to pop you in an instance with them...which is functionally the same as what you have now.![]()
What do you think of my suggestion Roybe? Having a groups browser, so we could have EDC, Moebius, etc... any online group, with a filter system so we can choose PvE, PvP, etc... and see the people online. I think it seems like a fair solution (though I expect the devs would keep things as they are)..

Of course! I did not claim otherwise. I personally stay in Open mode, as in my opinion, it is the best way to play the game. Fun fact: ALL groups have PvP enabled, there have been instances in which some commanders have infiltrated others private groups to attack from within. A creative thing to do, but the ethics of this is debatable. I doubt any laws were broken, but in any private group, PvP is enabled by default. I can only assume the devs like it this way. For all my suggestions, and everyone elses, I would just really prefer the game to stay the same, that is why I voted No in the above poll.

I have yet to receive any complaints for my behavior here from the moderators, I am being respectful and keeping within the rules of polite discussion. I can understand why they blocked me though,Either way, I have Open mode and am REALLY happy with it. I am glad there is no PvE mode.
