Modes The Solo vs Open vs Groups Thread - Part the Second [Now With Added Platforms].

That is the most idiotic thing that I have heard. You have crystallized the lunacy of this thread perfectly with that comment.

I don't give a crap about people playing in solo. I simply don't want their actions to impacting the efforts of PvP players.

The real questions is why do PvE'ers want to be able to impact and interfere with the activities of PvP'ers. Do you have some old grudge from some other game. Is this your chance to get even and crap all over those mean PvP'ers that hurt you once?

Insanity.

FD sold u a game that u can pvp with others and affect the universe the same way us group/solo ...if u didnt like it why u took it then? thats insanity

Such a stupid rant. You can create a PvP group (like Moebius is for PvE players) and you can shoot each other ad libitum. No need for separate servers/universes etc. Inside your group, you will have a PvP sandbox heaven. Quite simple.

You have completely missed the reason he wants Open separated from solo/group. He wants a separate background simulation so other modes do not affect his background simulation. A private group would certainly not solve this issue.

Wow sounds like you came into the game knowing how it was then because your complaining didn't change it to the way you wanted it your upset now?

PVPers are not bad, no idea who you think said that?

You can play "Your way" but there are limitations, it is like can't go into Burger King and have it "Your Way" and get a raw meat patty on a bun.

I would like to know how Open is not a PVP Sandbox.

The fact that their can be no significant player control pretty much nullifies any hope that this is a PvP sandbox.

Just because I can wander around and maybe find someone willing to fight me doesn't make it a PvP sandbox.

This is the exact opposite of a sandbox.

And that fact that the majority of the people I have had exchanges with seem to think that the only reason people want to play "pew pew PvP" is because the want to troll other players is how I may have reached that conclusion that people here believe that PvP'ers are bad.

I have not heard a single logical explanation why PvP should not be separated onto their own servers. Its like people here can't even process the thought.

The closest was "budget" concern but I think that is even a little weak.

shh they want their way to pass over DB's dev's wishes and thinking....

If u want EVE with cockpits u bought the wrong game ...

the game was and is still under development. As are most MMO's. But the notion that Frontier will completely ignore an entire section of the customers is insane.

The insanity is giving developers money before they have locked in what they are going to deliver. All David Braben is accomplishing here is making harder for future developers to utilize this same mechanism to fund their games.

BTW ... my buddy bought this game for me so I feel bad for him really.

If u want EVE with cockpits u bought the wrong game ...

sigh.

Unfortunately that is what my poor mislead friend was thinking when he backed this game. I wonder how he got that idea when he was dropping $300 into this.

I bet someone was throwing around the terms PvP and sandbox. And player driven events ...

nah ... I bet no one alluded to that.

Right. I get it.

Frontier doesn't like PvP play. People who play PvP are bad.

Your arguments are weak so just act smug and drop a smiley.

maybe frontier would like to give out refunds to all those trolls that thought that they would be able to play PvP in a sandbox.

Right ... the troll's money is helping fund the server. I forgot.

All the crying I hear here about "letting people play their way" and the group that has been deliberately excluded from that are people that would like a PvP sandbox. But that is ok ... cuz they are bad anyway.

Actually I wasn't being smug, and I didn't present an argument, just an observation. I have also never said that all PvP'ers are bad. You are asking for a PvP server (you should ask FD directly, why not try to get a petition going and see how many people will sign it?), and then you say it can have things like guilds that you obviously want, but which are not in the game that is being developed. So you are asking FD to make a different game to the one that they are making, one that you want.

I can tell you are very frustrated that they have not made the game you want, but they do seem to have made a game that some people want, and as has been said before, they are actually making the game that they want to make.

Anyone in open is at the mercy of PVPers.. Open is a sandbox. Are you still upset because you cannot barricade a system? Even after Mods said it was impossible even if everyone was in open?

There are plenty of People playing in Open who are not troll other players.. say if you read through the threads you may realize that. This game has a healthy Pve/PVP mix part of the reasons PVP seems sparse is the size of the universe . Shockingly many of us who are PVEers like PVPers and are friends with them, only time there are issues are when one group wants to drastically change the game towards their mode of play.. like now.

As for the separate servers.. there has not been one logical argument for the expenditure to do so, so that PVPers can have a playground where no one else is.

player driven events....lugh war for independence...milkunn changeing system owner ...so we had some of that..guess u have missed them....

Um ... no.

Saying that I want a separate PvP server is not the same as saying I am mad that I can't shoot a guy in solo.

what you want isnt the holy grail of game makeing though....and i want to have elite cook me meals but dont have it....;/

No, I did not missed it. I wrote what I wrote exactly because I know what he wants.

But it is an absolute non-sense, because even if there is a separate background simulation for PvP, you can setup your Windows firewall (disable some ports) and you will be instantly Solo in this brand new PvP background simulation.

This is the P2P core of the whole game which some players have problem to understand. Elite Dangerous is more or less a single player game with added option for multiplayer. It is not a server/client generic MMO like WoW or Lineage 2.

A quick trip to the Guilds thread will clarify this issue for you.

Elite intentionally will not allow groups to ensure that players can not significantly impact the universe.

What some of us are arguing is that people who want play that way should have the option on another server.

As for the justification of the expenditure. I don't think this is a money issue.

This is about some hair-brained idea that everyone should count in this video game. that everyone matters here. And what better way to say that then force them all to impact the same universe and destroy any attempts of players trying to matter more. The only people that matter are Frontier and their accountants.

Great big hug, everybody.

Yes ... you know what I really want dont you! Its a conspiracy and you figured it out. It can't really be as ... simple ... as wanting a separate server. NO I WANT TO HURT YOUR FEELINGS!!!!

My god this is crazy.

you should read hes post better this time cause u missed something....

Again, it is not "hiding" its PVE.. your playing against the environment not other players, you find it lame.. so what. You talk about perverting the risk of vs rewards spirit of Elite. what Perverting is there? Can solo's not get blown to heck by NPCs?

Well, uhm, if they are pretty bad? Even as a trader I don't experience a threat at all in solo.

The ONLY difference is the PVP aspect. the argument is the same gripe as before.. They are doing CG/PP and I can't shoot them to stop them.

When players aren't a bigger threat to you than NPC's then where is your point? It wouldn't make a difference, would it?

Not sure why you bring country into this, you do realize that these are private forums and they can censor you how they wish to.

Right: THEY and NOT YOU! Because they haven't censored me one single time, the might share my democratic attitude on voicing opinions.

what I said is you failed to realize that things are working as intended.

This doesn't make any sense. I never objected things working as intended. I object to the intention itself.

The most funniest part is you think Open is more dangerous than solo.. again the perception that Solo is this easy world.

But it is. I played both and the AI hasn't the slightest bit of a chance to hinder me from trading or earning my merits. Maybe you are not good enough to tell the difference?

And this "hide" word again. And I've seen it in Eve many times people popping person after person just for thrills.. and they wouldn't risk their expensive ships they built cheaper throwaways to do it.

Impossible! How could they do that? Are humans magically more dangerous than NPCs?

I would also like to know where you are getting this everyone changing to Solo part from? I've seen countless people say they play in Open.

I did it myself at the beginning and my friends do it still. It is quite logic, because solo mode is less of a threat. So people switch there for grinding and when they finally got their big guns they switch to open to use them on people who want to earn their big guns the more dangerous way. One doesn't need to be a genius to see that there is something wrong with this system.

If you want to be "top dog" and have your ego stroked.. then work hard and beat those nefarious cheating soloers that are trying to take over your little system that you are apparently the king of. Again this is you buying the game knowing full well what was in it then whining because it wont' change to the way you want it to be. And you don't think this is a money issue? is there a subscription plan that I am unaware of? I know there is a store but not much at all is in it. How are they getting the money to duplicate everything and invest in servers, personnel, everything else needed to create this mythical magic PVP server that will make you happy?

I regard blocking ports to make your instance solo as cheating. I think that's no reason to not have a separate background simulation as many games have problems with constant cheating but somehow still continue.

There should definitely be a way for Frontier to check whether players are getting telemetry from other players. If not, kick/ban them.

So having a separate server is technically impossible?

Actually, I really know what you want. I am playing computer games since 1980, I was more than 8 years in the computer game development bussines in real life and I played a lot of games including Ultima Online, WoW, Lineage 2, Guild Wars 2 etc. I even run my own Lineage 2 PTS server for couple of years.
Really, believe me, I know pretty exactly what you want. Maybe I know it better than you know. And I am almost sure that what you want will never happens, because FD is a good development company with a great game.

And yes, the separate background simulation where all players are in PvP is technically impossible. The networking core code is P2P based, so any player can disable any other player on his own computer. Plus, as soon as there will be the console version of Elite, there will be tens or hundreds of thousands of console players which will be in the same universe (same background simulation) and you will not be able to see them, because AFAIK the matchmaking code will not put PC and console players in the same instance. Which is really a good thing, because someone with console does not have a chance to fight somenone with PC and good joysticks.
