Modes The Solo vs Open vs Groups Thread - Part the Second [Now With Added Platforms].

This is a single player/ group game. It has open play, but if you feel you are not getting you money's/efforts worth out of open then look elsewhere, There are plenty of other games to play and look forward to in the future. Stop trying to change THIS game. It's NOT going to change as per FDev posts regarding this.

If it's any consolation, there are RUMOURS of an upcoming star citizen style arena mode for you PVPers. Maybe you can sate you appetite there.

Regarding PP, as DB has said, the solo players essentially cancel each other out, think of them as being part of the background simulation and you will see it makes sense. PP still has faults, but the solo/open "dilemma" is NOT one of it, as its designed to work with both options.

OK, "Open-only" guys (don't know what else to call you) I want to ask you something. No trap, no bait; I really don't understand your position on one thing. There's many things being talked about in this thread, but I just want to know one:

How would PowerPlay be different if everyone was "forced" (not my word) to play in Open?

As far as I understand it, you wouldn't be able to blockade a station or a sector because of the mechanics of the game; instancing. You might be able to coordinate some kind of action in one instance (although I can't see how if you don't have a player group; maybe Teamspeak or whatever) but it is simple to reroll until you get a "clearer" one; after all, we all have done that at a RES. You can't do system blockades like in EVE, which has a completely-different architecture.

This is what puzzles me as to your position that somehow, people are cheating on you by being in solo or group. I don't see how you could affect things on more than a small (instanced) basis even if everyone was in Open.

Can you explain your position on this? I really wish to understand this position on this ONE thing. What's the strategy here?

Unfortunately Relayer - the only answer they can give is the one they don't want to give, and it basically boils down to "Coz we wanna blows u up and killz u 4 lulz coz we is Gild X and we rulezez an if U hide in Solo u R a week thing"

Sad, isn't it :(

So what is this?

The third or fourth version?

Even after being throw into the basement the sparring continues.

Never mind still a few rings to go. Watch out though, I do hear the nineth is dangerous. ;)

:D

That is what I am getting at; peeling the layers of the onion... but I am sincere also. I just cannot imagine how, except in a small instance, being in Open would make any difference to the PowerPlay dynamic. There could be just as many solo players working for your Power as against it.

Btw, I am not involved with an official Power; I won't be pledging anyone. I have my own backstory (kinda like Beowulf Shaeffer's) and I am a trader who doesn't wish to cheese off any official Powers and needs to be on good terms to be trading with them. Money has no flag :D

Powerplay: Opposing. Should it be open only?

So here is the background. I am with power 10 on the list. There are only a few of us and our 1 expansion (combat) area is bugged and non-existant. All we can do is run drop off missions at the moment.

I noticed that some of our control systems are being opposed. I assume this is caused by other players coming and destroying our NPCs for 15 merits a pop. I feel I must stop them so I had of to those systems. And there is no one there.

Are players just doing this in solo to reduce the risk to zero? If this is the case then a small power will never be able to defend itself. I feel that if people are going on raiding runs then they should be visable to the defenders. What do you think?

Makes no difference, they might well be in open but you still won't see them unless the elastic bands holding the networking together put you all in the same instance.

I still have not seen an instance maxed out with players and NPCs since early beta, and it was a beautiful thing to behold.

Yes it should.

Personally I can't wait for solo mode arena, where I'll be able to make a stack of credits by being the automatic winner of every game I enter.

I think the game has a number of modes and we have to live with the outcome. Open is but one of the play options. It is not the most important, nor the hardest. You can attack anyone opposing you in open. Let's leave it at that lest you wake the beast and have this thread merged.

No, why force your playstyle on other people.

Because that seems to be that status quo for PVP oriented people... they can't possibly grasp that some people enjoy playing the game in group/solo.

The OP comment almost reads like theres nothing they can do to stop the solo people... they can work towards the opposing goals to counter the opposing people... Wether its done in solo through objectives or in open through PVP it doesn't matter, the largest force will always win it in the long run

Assuming theres no bugs preventing them that is...

No, why force your playstyle on other people.

Although for the rest of the game I would agree with this, Powerplay isn't a playstyle but a purely player-controller directly competitive contest. There is no background simulation for Powerplay: if all of the players for a power do nothing that turn then nothing happens for that power. Allowing players in solo and group mode to contribute to Powerplay fundamentally undermines this part of the game, and it's going to drive people away.

To give you a simple example: if I want to undermine an opposition power's then I can nip in to solo and shoot a bunch of NPCs with no ability whatsoever for the opposition power's players to counteract it. Makes no difference what they do, if I kill enough NPCs then the system cannot be fortified. Not being able to stop the action makes chunks of Powerplay pretty much pointless, and certainly worthless in terms of entertainment value.
