Modes The Solo vs Open vs Groups Thread - Part the Second [Now With Added Platforms].

Yes I do, and yes I could.

There has never, not once, ever been an argument presented on these boards to explain why the solo game has to be as difficult as the open game. Nobody has explained why they feel AI has to be as tough as human opponents to those who choose to avoid human opponents.

This is like playing something like Halo and demanding that easy mode not only be removed from your own game but from everyone elses too.

Mainly because the developers do not want to have an 'easy mode' in the game. If Private modes are easy mode, then people do not play in Open because they want to play with others, they play in private because the grind to win is easier and faster. This breaks the game ideals.

The reddit community is as good a sample as this one, here. Both links are the same poll for context in reddit.

I d say both your poll and mine are exactly as representative. You may disagree but that is you.

If you want to really argue on data the only way is FDEV´s. Everything else, including our polls is pure speculation.

I will disagree with this only from an analytical standpoint. If your looking for a sample population for representation you want that population to be as accurate as possible. For ED where you have to have an account, and if I remember correctly also have bought the game to be on the forums, you have a verified sample population. With Reddit you have unverified outliers. You have no real verification that they have bought the game unless you get each ones CMDR Name and can verify that they are in the game and that the person on reddit claiming to be them is them. There is to much unverified data in the reddit polls to be considered an accurate representation of the ED community in Solo/Private/Open type polls.

Looks like the makings of another threadnaught!

You can't really say open is full of anti-social types. Open is social by definition and the game encourages killing. The anti-social players are the ones in solo mode (the name gives it away).

The problem is there's no true high and low security areas. Anarchy means nothing. You can go to sol and happily gun down players and only get a slap on the wrist (if there were any players in sol).

Just because someone is an introvert does not make them anti-social.. Anti-social to me are the ones who take pleasure if screwing things up for everyone else. They are not there for PVP or really the game, their enjoyment comes in ruining the game for others.

Make solo only available upto competent in any discipline?

No.. hell no, no way... you are going to force people into open until they are competent in a discipline? Why?

Because fairness. As a solo player you have the same tools to affect the universe and the background simulation as open players, just without the risk.
Remember solo isn't an offline mode, you are playing in the same universe as me, except I can't come and stop you from doing whatever it is I don't like you doing to my game. Now if only you had to actually work and take risk to do that it wouldn't be so bad.

Solo players have the same risks as open players, what they don't have is the human element. that isn't a "RISK" that is a "CHOICE"

You dont need to have the game to be on these forums and vote in polls here. No need to have an analytical standpoint either.

None of the polls around can be used in any serious degree to justify arguments in this thread, especially when you have them suggesting opposite scenarios. Only FDEV´s actual data can bring some light.

Until then let´s stop the gratuitous and totally speculative poll based arguments please. Let´s just agree to be speculative irrespective of the poll simply because it s fun.

True - there is no link between forum account and owning the game.

FDev's data is most definitely the definitive source - to which we have no access.

I would go further - in the absence of any firm data, we should stop all speculation as to the population of any of the modes....

When I mentioned analytical standpoint it was only on which poll would be more viable. One of my jobs in the Air Force was Maintenance Analyst so when people start talking about polls and statistics it kinda kicks in.P

When having a discussion people will use all they can to bolster their own stance or to counter someone else's. You are right, the polls are not completely accurate and unless FD gives us data they never will be fully accurate, but when polling you never get the full number of things, you get sample sizes. Both reddit and the ED forums are sample sizes that be legitimately used for the polls. Now I will agree with you that the polls are speculative, but that is mainly because in the ED poll I believe the sample size is too small to give an indication of the true breakout of Solo/Private/Open. But if polls were to be used Ed in my opinion would be more accurate because even though I was wrong and you don't have to have the game, you do have to have an account. I don't see it very likely that people would create an account to vote in a pole. In reddit there is no checks for verification so the results are extremely skewed.

All we know for a fact is that people play in all thee modes. Those claiming to have the "most" in their preferred mode of play have not given any hard proof :p

To anyone suggesting drop solo....

I say look at it this way. IF a mode had to be dropped i COULD say drop open.... Keep private groups where people can socially play together or fight or what ever, and keep solo.

This would suit me just nice...... But DO I say this??

No because I try not to be a mean person who wants to ruin the game for those who CHOOSE to play in open..... but drop open is just as valid - and selfish - an attitude as drop solo imo.

Before they dropped a mode, I would suggest drop PvP...no friendly fire. Or a new switch to opt out of same. Turn the whole game into a PvE only game.

It's amusing to see everyone dancing around the poll issue... o_O

In fairness, the polls (in both of the cases recently) are self selecting with no direct link to players of the game. On balance, it would seem to be best to ignore them with respect to this discussion. That said, we therefore have no firm data on player preference - therefore any speculation as to mode populations / mode preference / etc. should probably cease at this point.

I d say it is the opposite, more than two thirds would be the ones with influence. No selfishness there that I can see.

70% prefer to play in open. My poll is right, yours is wrong.

Honestly, stop the poll based argument nonsense please? Only FDEV has the actual data.

Erm... Which of these actually represents your view?
