So piracy is encouraged, but when targets do not give in to my demands I become a Pk'er? How is the pirate supposed to "pirate" anything when this is the rule? Personally, I would never kill a trader who dropped me valuable cargo to loot. But this only happens about once out of every 2 hours of gameplay and only from NPCs. How am I supposed to keep interested in this game if I cannot make a living off a career that was offered to me by the developers themselves? They lied.

I'm A PIRATE! I DO NOT WANT TO LOOT USS'S OR CLAIM BOUNTIES!!! YET THIS IS WHAT IM FORCED TO DO RIGHT NOW IF I WANT TO SUSTAIN MY LIFESTYLE AS A PIRATE! BECAUSE BEING A PIRATE IN ELITE IS SO UNPROFITABLE THAT I CAN MAKE MORE MONEY DOING ALMOST ANY OTHER ACTIVITY INCLUDING JACKING MYSELF OFF WILL MAKE MORE MONEY. Thanks, Im' done.

Sorry for you. Piracy is a tough lifestyle which needs a lot of skill and patience. Killing your marks because they don't yield is not piracy, because you are culling the sheep you make a living from. That's just not thinking. Maybe you simply do not have the skill/attitude to be a pirate.

Also, why are you shouting? It just adds to the assumptions people will make about you.

There is a weapon system in game specifically designed to break open the cargo hatch and force another player to drop his cargo. It is called the Cargo Hatch Limpet. So no, the developers didn't lie. They did everything to make pirating possible without killing people.

If people don't WANT to be pirated and do everything in their power to stop you from doing so, that is just the risk that comes with the job. A job YOU CHOSE.

And of course, trading will always be the most profitable and reliable source of income in this game. Especially rare goods trading. It's just like real life. Pirates never get rich. They sometimes score big time, but they don't have a reliable source of income. It all depends on their success and their luck.

So your experience is that you get more frustrated by player traders than by NPC traders? That's very interesting in light of the post I just replied to.

It seems the pirate mechanic is the problem here. Not solo vs open play.

I tried my hand at pirating and it was indeed frustrating.

Piracy is a pointless endeavor in Elite, other than for RP purposes. I will make sure everyone hears of this because I don't want them to buy into a falsely advertised universe as I did.

Your caps lock key appears to be stuck. Its the one to the left, just to the left of the letter 'a'.

You think I don't know about limpets? Every pirate knows about them.

You failed to read my earlier comments in this thread, so I will not repeat what I already said because it is tiresome.

It was also advertised as an MMO, which is a bit of a laugh. Lesson to be learned here. Never believe advertising. Always research a product before buying ;)

another point of view.

atm : trader killed lost easy 1000kcr or more. cargo + insurrance. in solo mode, npc is more easy to avoid. play in elite not force us to became a god in dogfight. we can becam explorer, trader etc and not force to fight. i left open for that. because social for many is only kill each other. but i love pve. so atm i am in mobius mode.
fighter ship lost less. because with good skill you can fight with viper or cobra without fsd A. so is easy to engage when you know already the cost. 20 or 80kcr. for trader, the lost = 10 or 20H to play. and with chance to lost again before recover the last death.

you want really more players in open ? and more fight ? more piracy ?

similiar to other mmo with some pvp ?

so change rules like other mmo. remove 95% from penalty death when the death is caused by a pc.

death from event npc : change nothing
death beetween 2 pc : remove cost from victim or cap the cost from victim to a reasonable amount.

and personaly, i think many like me, return to open. in other mmo with pvp , the cost for death is not expensive.
for me the real issue is here.

Personally, I don't care, as long as you retain the solo mode.

My ideal would be:

1. Additional commander saves for each account.
2. Each commander starts in either open or solo mode (they must choose).
3. Commanders who start in solo mode have to stay there.
4. Commanders who start in open mode, can switch to solo, but they can't switch back to open.

Osito

What about groups? Why do people always fail to address private groups in these threads?

Well, there are a few pirates posting here who seem to be succesful at it.

Maybe we're just crap pirates.

I would go along on you with this if I hadn't just made 20 million creds on my trader in the last two days in under 5 hours of play.

My point here is that it is far too easy to do other things in Elite and make more money than what the average pirate will make. Piracy is a waste of time given the current mechanics.

I can make more money smuggling goods from random USS's in a SIDEWINDER with 10 cargo holds Than I can make from pirating anything in a Cobra in the same amount of time.

Oh cool. Why not stick with that rather than, as you stated before, killing people for lulz? Or are these earnings so that you can fund the bouts of mindless PvP violence?

[Not intending to be provocative, just trying to understand...]

hmm, you and your fellow chums seem to spend more time pvp-ing in this thread then playing solo? maybe you would like it in open if they made a social wide chat when docked at stations or somthing?

edit: just a jest, don't take it too wrongly, but seems to be alot of ganking going on in this thread by pve-ers, and less in actual open play :D

Because piracy was what sold me on this game. Because piracy is something frontier advertised as a legit career. Yet, I have earned far more money in this game doing things that I generally suck at and do not find fun. So, I will now use those unfun activities to fuel my rage until frontier fixes piracy.

Just like PvE'ers do not like being forced to do things they do not want, I the pirate also do not want to be forced to PvE to earn money to support my PvP.

It is a huge double standard that always seems to work in the PvE players favor.

Does joining a group actually prevent you seeing people from outside the group? I thought it just prioritised your group members when choosing an instance for you to join.

Maybe that's something to do with the fact that Elite Dangerous was designed as a PvE game right from the start where Player contact was "Rare and Meaningful!" Look at it 400 billion systems, thousands inhabited. If it was designed as a PvP Arena, you would want only a fraction of that number in order to force people to meet each other.

Elite Dangerous is a PvE game. That is what is was advertised as. No-one has lied to you. This is why PvP players are getting frustrated. Epiphany needed anyone?

Well duh. PvP players need PvE players a helluva lot more than PvE players need PvP players.

Hopefully, when the much anticipated "Wings" update arrives, there will be more for PvP players to do than pick on on traders, or collect pirate bounties.
Some RP and some politics would liven this game up a lot.
