assets are just a matter of playtime.

Give this guy a medal he just won the entire argument.

Assets in solo, group, or open. Doesn't matter - it's all a matter of how much time you have to spend in the game... period.

We're not in a race to Anaconda's here folks.

thanks, but it was pointed out more than a dozen times in this thread.
i just dig it out from time to time because noone will read through the thread and to keep the circular argumentation rolling...

Imho its way less a problem of different game modes. Theres no entitlement nor becoming a special snowflake just because one has choosen solo/group/open. Games modes are only there for one thing, choice and personal preference. And each of those is perfectly valid and should be respected. I mean, really - i read the forums quite frequently, and the only problem i see with open especially regarding PVP are loads of broken mechanics. Community Events with loads of pirates or maniacs. Okay, part of playing in open - but, where are all the bounty hunters then? Right, they do trading as well or fight inside RES - cause of combat logging, totally broken wanted system, no incentives. Trade CGs, why is there not something that involves bounty hunters and gives them incentive to ensure that the systems arround that location stay safe. Why is combat logging still not adressed properly in a way that prevents people from an easy exit without causing problems for those with unstable internet connection and similar problems.

Pirates and especially "maniacs". Pilots Federation, cool - why exactly are they still part of it? Piracy, okay - they might look away a few times in hope you get the better of yourself, but blunt murder? Yea, its a cutthroat galaxy but obviously there are rules. Imho, depending on the weight of their actual crimes people should loose... well, lets say security status just for now. If you get below a certain point, you are done. No longer part of the PF, openly called outlaw. There is no safe place for you any longer, at least as long as you want to call pirate space safe. Anyone can shoot you, anytime. No hopping back to a station and tell papa what a bad boy you were and if he could take you under his protection again. You can get trust back again, but that will take time - not too much but a reasonable amount of time.

Of course thats just some things that came to my mind, least i want is to push some peoples gameplay that far aside that its no loner anything near valid. Cause even if i personaly don't favor at least the maniac part, i still have to respect the people that like it that way. But as said right at the beginning, reason for threads like these are imho not the different modes (though some will still argue, already mentioned why), but the sheer mass of non existing or broken game mechanics especially regarding pirates and bounty hunters.

Just my 2 cent,
Cheers

To be fair if you get involved, keep in with Galnet, chat to other players it's really cool. You might want to dip a toe just to see how it fits you :)

I love the idea of the Community Goals, don't get me wrong, but the implantation generally leaves me cold. The maority I've seen are collect as much X as as you can, as fast as you can. There may have been more creative ones but I missed them. Apart from anything, I play on crappy hardware with limited time. A grind race isn't really my cup of tea unfortunately.

I agree with this 100%..... imo kick from the pilots federation, BUT have an underground pirates guild with systems in anarchy space where you can build a reputation for yourself. Black market goods in such systems would have no penalty for high faction pirate members.

psychos however would be unwelcome here too, because like in real life, no one wants a serial killer in their neighbourhood!.

Open Play, Private Group, Solo Open Play, Private Group, Solo

On the start menu, there are three choices. I don't really care about "Private Group" but I was wondering, what's the difference between Open Play and Solo?

Welcome CMDR!

Open Play is where you can play with real players and NPCs(non-playable characters controlled by the game).

Solo is where you can play with only the NPCs present.

Lots of people use Solo to do trading and/or learn the ropes before they try out Open.
When you play in Open you will see the occasional player unless you are in one of the starter systems or the Lave area where there are a lot more.
On your radar, these are the definitions: Boxes are undeployed weapons, triangles are ships with weapons deployed.
Solid shapes are NPC ships, hollow ones are real CMDRs. Yellow means neutral to you, green are friendlies of your own faction and red means they are hostile.
Most CMDRS will hail each other when they see them in their local area.
Hope this helps a little!

Fly Safe CMDR!

Open had other players
Solo does not

They both share the same universe, and you can swap between them at will with your exact same commander, ship and location

Don't ignore private groups till you know what they are. If you like to play with people, but do not some muppet swooping out of the dark in a huge ship and blowing your tiny ship to pieces for no reason other than 'because I can', then consider joining the Mobius private group. You get other players who have agreed not to shoot other players except in marked combat zones.
I am not suggesting that you will be killed every 5 minutes pointlessly in open. It is rare, but Mobius can be a better option if pvp is not your thing

Open v Solo - Transfer of XP from one to the other question.

Little contentious and divisive; due to the differing risk models between open and solo what are peoples opinion that you can play in the safe arena of Solo and then pop into Open and vice versa (for whatever reason) and have the same status (rank/rep/credits etc).

Would the game be better served where whatever XP you gain in one mode cannot be transferred - you'd get 2 gaming experiences for the price of 1

Would also plug an exploit or 2?

Trougle is you find in between open & solo there is group play.

How would that work?

Then there are multiple groups.

How would that work?

It's not that simple. I wish it were.

How do you quantify risk in open?

If you're in a 4 ship wing you have a huge advantage against NPCs and single players - and quite probably any wing smaller than 4 ships.

If you're trading in very quiet systems (which are very easy to find) in open with no other players you're in solo mode for all intents and purposes.
