No I'm sorry, omitting a basic or integral component of a game mechanic and then putting it into the game months later because of a premature release, while compounding that with no in game way to find out that information is entirely FD's fault, and at the very least can be called counter intuitive game design.

The burden is not on me to go researching or looking up past patch notes to learn what the basic mechanics of a game are. The game itself is supposed to show them/teach them to me.

Reading the patch notes is not the issue. Putting in basic mechanics that were supposed to be there from the start and not having any in game reference for them is the issue.

Plus, not all players, in fact I would argue most, are going to belong to that group of players that have played since beta and have kept up to date with each patch note release.

Again, instead of comparing ED to software as if it were the new iteration of Ruby or Unreal, wouldn't it make more sense to consider it like a video game? You know...because it is?

Do you have Huw Edwards come to your house every day to personally give you updates on world events?

I think it is a fair point that ED does not do a great job of explaining its game mechanics all of the time.

Its an easy enough fix tho. imo after every patch after you hit the upgrade button, the 1st time you log in it could just have a "whats new" clickable button come up that you have to either click on and read OR close before clicking play.

the game manual could also be made more visible from within the game rather than having to go online to find it, preferably readable whilst still in the game so you can use as an on the fly guide...

wow that's possibly the worst analogy I've ever heard. But I guess that's all that's left when you can't refute basic logic and facts.

The manual is constantly updated and with a game as big as ed you're expected to read it. If you don't want to download it every time there's an update you can read the patch notes. It's not the perfect solution but it's the way this game has been from release.

TBH they should at least have the "news" in the launcher showing the latest patches actually be clickable to the thread links with the patch notes rather than having multiple buy buttons for merch and ship skins.

Claiming that Wings was "basic content that should have been in from the start" is an opinion not a fact. You see when the game has an update, you go and check the patch notes. You already use the forum (you've been here for 10 months) so you should read more of the forum. Even if patch notes are below you there is a sticky thread just above the thick line, just above this thread in this very forum (you don't even have to go to a different section). You missed it. Your response should have been closer to, "Ah, thank you, I didn't see that."

If you think that someone should be expected to read an external game manual every time they update the game then you're insane.

EVERY single game worth its salt will have a list of changes/fixes etc. when a patch is applied.

First of all, we were talking about how trading and wings impact each other, and yes, multiplayer interaction (or wings) should have been in the game from the start since it was sold as an MMO. That is a fact, not an opinion.

You see when a game has an update, one of two things, if not both, must happen (at least in any other game out there):

- a list of what has been added / changed etc. is provided

and/or

- the game itself is updated to relay the new mechanics to players.

We're not talking about where to find that special sweet spot for trading or that unique exploration location.

We're talking about game mechanics and integral parts of the game. If you think the burden is on the player to either constantly stay up to date or keep playing since release, then you are out of your mind.

And apart from being mildly creepy, I haven't "been here" for 10 months. I created an account 10 months ago. The fact that you can't fathom the difference is indicative of exactly the problem I mentioned: It's a game. There are other games. People don't only play ED.

I only started playing a few weeks ago for example.

You and some others are placing the entire burden for knowing how to play and how the game works on the player. If this were true then literally the entire video games industry would be different. In fact, if this were true, why did FD go to the trouble of making tutorial videos and training missions?

Stop trying to cover mistakes or things FD hasn't done quite up to par with such disingenuous fallacious logic.

I don't think it was sold as an MMO in the beginning although it is being attached to the later releases (I bought the digital download and this MMO thing came as a surprise to me). However, "multiplayer interaction" does not mean Wings. Wings adds to multiplayer interaction but being able to talk to, and shoot, other players is "multiplayer interaction".

I'm terribly sorry. You have been aware of the forum's existence for 10 months.

Wow so now we're down to twisting semantics and pathetic passive aggressiveness? Cool. Guess that's all that's left when the facts aren't on your side.

guys... get back to arguing about solo vs groups vs open ;)

I cant follow more than 1 rant in any 1 thread, it is too confusing :p

technically way back when Frontier did market it as a Massive, Multiplayer online game. Now personally I think it does tick all of those boxes, without it being an MMO in the stereotypical sense of one..... what makes an MMO? I have quite loose ideas of the definition, where as others have quite strict thoughts on the matter.

I thought it was wise of Frontier to change their marketing, not because they were wrong, but just because it did possibly lead to confusion. I did sigh inwardly when I saw the tags on steam, because even though I think it ticks all the boxes for MMO, I know a lot do not. IMO elite is good enough to be proud of what it is, without possibly confusing some people about what it isnt.

either way, this should probably have its own thread, not here.

You started it. :p

He's learned the phrase 'passive aggressive' and he's damn well going to use it!

It's really sad how having no facts to base any argument on you've both devolved into a circle jerk of complimenting each other on your pathetic insults or attempts at mental gymnastics for what is a very clear cut issue.

You can thank the mods who lumped in my thread with this mega thread. Apparently any thread that mentions something in the game being broken because of unbalanced open vs. solo gets thrown in here to die, since no one sees the original thread anymore.

Elite has always been open about its modes, mode switching was an important hook I used to get some of my friends to buy in.

Different modes for different moods. 1 save to rule them all!
