I think the new sounds are great """"accept the bass"""" . The new setup has killed my Buttkicker. Now I have to turn it almost all the way up and it still doesn't get much response. They need to send the low end signals for us that like using simulation equipment. They also need to add a low bass to all the weapons firing that you can barely hear but it will show up in the thump of the kicker. And same with engines. This is the only game I have that is this finicky with the bass signals.

It is not the sound variation itself which sounds bad. It's the different volume level between each sound variation. Some sounds really quiet others extremly loud. Doesen't matter which setting i choose. Before patch it was all equal.

Im using a Soundblaster Z and never had problems with that card!

WTH happened to the sound

WTH happened with the sound in the last patch. All the effects now seem quite and washed out. The "propeller" hum of the ASP has totally disappeared. The sound effects are really disappointing now.

Yeah, something weird is going on, and FD seems to work on it. They created something that works awesome for (I think) the majority, but does weird things on other PC's. You, and me, clearly have one of those other PC's. There are a couple of threads about it, but right now, we can't have enough of them ;)

My ear actually noted lots of new sounds in many different situations, after last update. Like, there is a new sound while passing the planet, also few sounds in the station menu were tweaked. The volume of battle music seems to be adjusted too and some new tracks added. Which is great. Not sure the Clipper sounds changed for the best though.

If your using soundblaster titanium fatality pro or similar you can adjust the level that your bass will kick in at which might be a temp fix for you..

I've noticed a lot more sounds; generally there is much more detail in the engines I think.

What I like less is they have seemed to have put a lot of ship-effects through a high-pass-filter and they're not very nice to listen to.

Most of the game is still full-range though, my room still shakes when I jump or scan so it's not a blanket high-pass.

Figured something out about my sound being quiet after a hyperspace jump. Turns out if you fire the discovery scanner horn the sounds disappear and slowly fade back in.

It has always been like that. Discovery scanner fades all other sounds whilst it is charging. Haven't tried it in 1.1, probably more pronounced since the SC sounds are muted in more

No, the sounds are silent and slowly fade in after it has been fired.

Hmm, that's what I'm talking about. in 1.07 whenever I fired the scanner all the sounds would go quiet while it charged, then after the 'boom' they would slowly fade back in. I'm guessing it is silent now because the normal sounds in SC have been muted further. I'll test it when I get home later.

...
I noticed the following improvements
-Sounds in hyperpace jump and super cruise seem to have new textures in the background.
-Sound transitions from space jumps and cruise are far more fluid
-My multi cannons sound HUGE now. Much more thumpy and textured sounding.
-They finally toned down the LFE levels going through the mailslot. I can now keep my headphone leves and LFE levels high to get all the rumbles and thumps in space, without destroying my ears in the mailslot
-The intensity of the sound when docking inside a station is vastly improved. There seems to be more echo, more rumble, more intensity
-Other sounds in and around combat seem generally deeper and more intense
...

Funnily enough, this is pretty much the direct opposite of how sounds have changed for me since patch 1.1 :S

Ok its weird,
Yesterday i posted here that i had some major issues, siunds missing, mix is completely flat etc....
Yesterday evening BEFORE the hotfix i was able to play 30 minutes before the server went offline to do its update and i must say everything sounded correct again ...
Yes there are still some sounds that are off, the station lift is too quiet, the gatling guns make almost no noise and supercruise is too quiet.
But the issues i had (crackling, popping, sounds fading in/out or missing) didnt present themselves anymore.

I did have to turn up the volume way higher than before to get the same "oomph" again as before. But strangely enough none of the problems i had manifested themselves.
I was able to play the rest of the evening after the hotfix without any issues as well apart of some sounds being too soft.

So yes, something weird is going on, and no at the moment i have no more problems except a few "cosmetic" ones to my taste and those were already mentioned by many people here.

P.S. I did not change anything on my setup.

I'm having some issues too with realtek onboard audio (not the best i know...). I'm using some cheap Trust 2.1 speakers (bass + 2 satellites) and i'm experiencing very weird sound variations: like the music when travelling in SC is now a bit muffled and even the supercruising sound is not very clear.
In 1.07 the sound was crystalline and crisp, and every music/effect was very recognizable... i was preferring that type of sound, it's a bit "all too mixed together" now.

Don't know if i would classify it as a bug tho... maybe only personal liking.

I must agree. Sound before was like BOOM, bass goes, everything around seems so huge cause of that. Now it's just... normal. It's mostly noticeable when docking. Sad.

Finally got to play some last night. I'm not experiencing this sound issue that other people are, in fact, if anything, the sounds sounded better through my headphones. More ambient noises in the space stations, could hear all sorts of "wooshy wierdness" in FSD.

As it doesn't appear to be across the board I wonder whether it's quality issue on certain cards? Is anyone gathering trends on sound card models that are experiencing this?

Sound cards? How 90s!

Only joking obviously but as this is a thread that will interest those who like sound I highly recommend dumping traditional sound cards (particularly on-board audio) and buying a digital to audio converter. You connect this via USB, all recent windows have a USB audio driver and then you connect that via line-out, optical, etc. to your hifi system. You can also buy DAC/headphone amp combinations which offer the best quality headphone audio I know of.

The one area where this is lacking is in multi-channel sound, because the DACs rarely know about Dolby; line-out and optical can't carry pcm for multi-channel. For that you might look into HDMI output for your audio using your graphics card. All recent Nvidia cards offer this option - I'm afraid I have no experience with ATI/Radeon cards so can't comment on them. You will need a hifi capable of taking HDMI input and outputting to multispeaker setups - these are becoming surprisingly inexpensive.

Sorry to the audio buffs in here who know all the above for wasting your time - though you can probably correct any errors I've made.

I have to say I've been enjoying the new sounds - seems like a lot of subtle extra bits have been woven in. I think the ear quickly gets used to stuff it knows, maybe for a game with longevity like this they could come up with a system that rotates the sounds in use around subtly over time so it always sounds new to your ears.

Annoying pulsing sound while docked at a star port!

Is anyone else experiencing an annoying pulsing sound while docked at a Starport? Has only started to occur since 1.1 update. If so, can you stop it?
