ok just want to say again that i am running elite in my home studio on my trusty pmc tb1's driven by a hafler amp with an rme fireface uc soundcard.
i listen to music and watch films and produce music in here and know my setup/speakers very well and have had this setup for years and years.

i have watched some videos/read descriptions of the sound problems other people are having and my elite setup does not sound like this at all.
i did have the strange beeping thing back in beta and it drove me mad but i forget when it went or what it was.

makes me think this is either local to particular ship (im in a cobra) or due to peoples sound settings. i have not touched anything since beta apart from music levels as i tend to listen to other music while playing.

my setup is 2.0 - no surround and it sounds epic. yes sound has changed a little but for me its for the better.

hope this helps in some way - i am a long time musician/engineer and trust my ears even if everyone else does not :)

When you are using a Buttkicker it's not about any one persons ears, it's the lack of any vibration from the Buttkicker device since the patch rendering the device next to useless.

@twoquietsuns

Nice to meet a fellow engineer. Do you have pre 1.1 samples of exiting HS? ie. the thud/bang you get when facing the new star? I noticed a huge loss of low frequency response on my setup and I think this is picked up by a lot of people. I'm also flying a Cobra.

It could be compression, but I don't think so - there is plenty of dynamic range elsewhere, and to me it sounds more like an eq/HPF thing going on. I'm using an external pro-audio card running through a seperate amp and decent 2.0 monitors (no additional sub). EQ set to flat on my system and boosting bass isn't really doing anything because there isn't anything there to boost. I've also tried on studio and gaming headphones. No changes on my side between the release versions.

There are some great additions to audio in 1.1 - most notably the much more subtle (yet audibly obvious) changes when making small throttle changes - which is a real pleasure.

Hi everyone.

Thanks so much for all the tickets, video/audio clips, and private messages. It is very helpful, please keep them coming. :)

Unfortunately I am struggling to keep up with the sheer volume of replies to this thread, so if posting videos and ticket numbers, please don’t forget to PM them to me as well, and that way I will definitely see it (even if I don’t reply), and can keep track of them too.

Please read my original reply ^^^ if you haven’t already.

Thanks once again for the feedback and for caring so much about the audio. :)

Hello Joe - this problem is actually quite a big one for those of us that are affected.

You say you are not hearing problems with your gear. Can you tell us what sound hardware is being used for development? Please be specific. Have you tested on Soundblaster's and if so which ones? And is the game supporting 7.1 or 5.1 or both? Or is it setup for best results using stereo?

Would be helpful to have some info flowing from your side!

Thanks Joe, your work is amazing :) I love the "Star Warsy" engine sound of the ADDER! :D

I only have the missing/quite sounds on docking lifts so far.

hi :)

yes i noticed a few changes in the dynamics, engine noise seems to react a bit more as you said.
with regards to bass i have rme digicheck open with a spectral scope and i can see activity going down to 25-31.5hz at times!!!

i will investigate further but there sure is bass!

I have had a few issues with sounds not playing correctly or being quiet, this glitch I something I have no doubt the devs are working on as they have with all other errors and problems. My worry is the new sounds of the clipper, accelerating/decelerating and the boost now sounds dreadful. I love the game and the sound is the reason I bought new headphones to properly enjoy it but would really love the old clipper sound back. Lets face it it suffers greatly in the manoeuvrability front and can't stand toe to toe with many of the ships but the sound on it was perfect! my worry is this is a deliberate change and not a glitch that will be fixed? Any slight glimmer of chance we can have the old ghostly whine back would be spiffing!

Mist try the new patch tonite, but overall the audio has become worse sonce beta.

My own biggest ossue is the multicannon sound. It used to have a snap to each shot, but now it sounds so hollow and bad.

Sound effects and music were one of the few aspects of this game that felt perfect. FD ruined that. Seriously, does anyone have faith in this company anymore?

Nobody's saying they're perfect but they're working hard at it, and tell us about it fairly often. It's not Chucklefish making this game.

so let me get this straight, someone's buttkicker isnt working, and its FD's fault?

No - ED changed the sound in game, the changes have stopped everyone's Buttkicker from being as effective as they were prior to the patch.

We are not talking about faulty hardware in this thread.

No. Quite clearly there are more issues than that. Most of the comments here are very constructive, and I for one remain impressed with the attention and action FD are taking, and continue to take, in improving this amazing game. Great to see a number of these being addressed and implemented so quick. Nice one FD!

After 3 hours finally downloaded the game and logged in. For the first time since the original Beta I closed the game after 5 minutes not wanting to load it up again. I was pretty addicted to this game and having a blast.

The sound has gone from the best thing in this game to one of the worse things. The mixing is terrible, I tried setting the sounds to Boost, Night time, Full range etc... My sound card is setup as suggested over in the Beta forum, I have a hefty sound system/headphones and a Bkgamer.

Am not even talking about how annoying the Clipper sounds now, the low end has completely disappeared, entering dropping out of Hyperspace felt like a major event, now you can hardly hear or feel it. The treble has been mixed so high, I cant even believe it is the same guy's behind the original sounds.

Rant over, only good thing about today is I decided to download and install Asseto Corsa, took me 30mins to download 6.5 gigs while ED hovered at the 50% mark downloading 2.5 gigs.

Have always tried to stay upbeat and try to be helpful on these forums, but the bulk of these issues had been brought up in the last Beta. The sound is actually worse now then it was in the test environment.

I'm off to listen to the sound of a Ferrari blasting round the Nurburgring. Sorry to say it but this latest sound mix is awful
fixed in the update mate

Fingers crossed the sound fixes in the new patch are all the issues. I didn't see a mention of the fact that multicannons sound so muted now but perhaps thats the sort of thing that doesn't make notes.

so let me get this straight, someone's buttkicker isnt working, and its FD's fault?

Try reading the thread before responding ignorantly. I don't have a BK and my sound is now bad. The fact that the sound is broken also means the BK's no longer work.

I know I have faith in them, but then I'm not here solely to troll.

Considering that an Audio dev came into this thread and explained he poured his soul into the audio over the past year and a half, and then it gets hotfixed within 48 hours, of course!

I can't wait to get home and try out the new patch. Thank you audio devs!

Noticed similar stuff like the OP,
the pristine and absolutely nightmare-ish presence (meant in the most positive kind of ways) of the bass has been reduced by significant values since beta.

You guys probably have had quite a few of those special moments in video games that you'll never forget.
Flying through a docking port during ED beta was definitely part of that.

First time logging into ED I've been extremely impressed by the very distinctive sound design of this game,
usually playing at wall shaking volumes I almost fell out of my chair passing my first docking port.
The sound was mind-boggling, straight into the gut kind of awesome.
It was perfectly balanced, every frequency had its place and the bass, while being very prominent, was never in the way of any other sounds.

This changed with gamma and is probably related to the addition of specific "settings" for home theatre, night mode and headphone mode (whatever the hell that's supposed to be).

Now everything seems out of balance from an audio point of view,
Kind of washed out.

I'd be very happy to have audio reverted to the way it was back in beta.

I'm running a 5.2 setup consisting of a B&W 600 series surround set combined with 2 Paradigm Seismic 110s.

Cheers

There's been multiple sound issues in the past, it sucks but, the sound guys know there stuff and will sort it out ASAP. Now if we could get the rest of the team up to the sound peoples standards............

(Sarah excluded)

If they know their stuff, they should know enough to leave the sound well alone when it is great and awesome.

They fiddled with it once before and totally messed it all up, it is about time they learned that lesson and left it working in the awesome manner it was.
.
.
That post from Joe is virtually word for word the same as the one posted last time they messed it up royally for no apparent reason as well, at least no reasons given as to why it needed fiddling with in the first place.

The systems they are using must have a different build if it still sounds awesome.

Looks like it's not fixed at all.
The Clipper boost sound has gone forever.
I just tried a quick undocking, boosting out, landing again.
They fixed something about the landing gear and landing pad, but the 1.07 quality is still missing.

SO SAD ABOUT THIS.
