Since the 1.1 patch my sound was cutting out at certain point (or perhaps just playing very quietly?). After changing the "Optimaize For" setting to Normal from Full Range, things work fine again.

For what it is worth, earlier today I completely uninstalled SoundBlaster Zx drivers & software, and Elite Dangerous using Revo Unistaller Pro to remove any leftover “residue”.
Also did a little maintenance cleanup – removed temp file caches, invalid registry data, etc.

Next download latest drivers for the SoundBlaster Zx from Creative Labs, (released sometime in December 2014), and reinstalled the sound drivers only - no additional software.
Did a fresh download, (in case previous download had corrupted files), and installed Elite Dangerous.

I am sad to say, no change.

I tried the different in game audio settings, and although the Night Time setting does help bring out the background sounds, it is nothing like what it was before. Again, all the fun stuff - the “wow” factor is no longer there.

For example taking the issues with the music out of the equation, (I know this is repetitive), it is like everything else has either been:
a) turned down -
- entering / exiting out of hyperspace
- the deep base sound while going through the airlock or mailbox slot of a station
- being interdicted – (which used to be a massive “bam” and would scare the hell of me, especially if my attention had been drawn elsewhere while in SC).
b) turned off –
- the blast door(s) being lowered, docking clamps being released, just prior to launching
c) completely replaced with a different sound all-together -
- the big, massive deep mechanical sounds of the hydraulics of the lift platforms, (now sounds “weak and flimsy”).

I sure hope Joe and his team gets this fixed soon.

I've got a SB Recon3d. Sound was fine up until the last patch. Going to hold off on playin till this is resolved. I'm a stickler for good sound.

Problem is everybody is slightly different. I don't mind the new sounds but when I fire the space horn all other sounds cease. Start scanning a planet and fire the discovery scanner again and you will hear nothing for a few seconds and then it will slowly fade in.

Exactly. I don't think people are all that different. There are a few complaining about the modifications to the sounds themselves, they will stop complaining eventually. But the big issue is that sounds are pushing each other to the background. This is a bug, a structural problem and needs to be solved.

i first suspected it was my default motherboard sound card wasn't good enough,
so i installed my really good sound blaster x-fi, but the problem still exists.
i admit, it's not a major problem,
but it seems that some audio assets are being re-triggered multiple times,
eg,
Do, Do, Docking Clearance Granted
Fra, Fra, Frame Drive Charging
and on the rare occasion when entering Hyperdrive, there is this distortion buzz for about a second, and the screen freezes,
GZGZGZGGZZGZZ!

I had the opposite experience. When coming out of an interdiction, 1.0 would say 'hulli hulli' whereas 1.1 says 'hull integrity compromised' as I assume it's supposed to.
(And for 10.000CR it had better finish its sentence!!!)

Still getting the space station mega-stuttering sound issues. Super annoying. But, i find if i go really slow through the slot if does not happen.

Hi everyone.

Thanks so much for all the tickets, video/audio clips, and private messages. It is very helpful, please keep them coming. :)

Unfortunately I am struggling to keep up with the sheer volume of replies to this thread, so if posting videos and ticket numbers, please don’t forget to PM them to me as well, and that way I will definitely see it (even if I don’t reply), and can keep track of them too.

Please read my original reply ^^^ if you haven’t already.

Thanks once again for the feedback and for caring so much about the audio. :)

Could somebody just clarify one thing: were there any significant changes to the sound effects themselves, or what we all hear is a result of some kind of sound system bug?
I can notice sound/music fading, music switching tracks and having some filter applied sometimes. Was this intended?

All they need to do is revert sound to pre 1.1 ie before they fiddled with it and leave it well alone, we do not need or want it fiddled with.
.
It was awesome the way it was. Are you trying to stay in a job or something, just work on new sounds for new Ships and stop ballsing up the stuff that is good.

I have confidence that nothing is sounding the way it's supposed to. All the "wow" factor is gone not because they changed the sounds tthemselves but because something is limiting the effects the game runs.

It's not as simple as just changing a sound. I work a lot with live audio in my band and I've learned that everything from every instrument has to be just right for everything to be heard. If the treble is too high on the guitars, the frequencies overlap with the drum's cymbals and all the human ear perceives is static. If there's too much bass and the kick drum is too thick, all you hear is mud from the low end.

So, put computer technology on top of all that and add in audio bugs, one little thing can throw the whole sound stage into disarray.

It's not because they changed the sounds per se, because they've proven they have utter mastery of audio design and human sound perception. These are problems with computers. I imagine they're working hard to get to the bottom of why we're all having these issues.

More than a week has passed and we are still stuck in this crap. I can't describe how I feel.

*Gives virtual pat on the shoulder*
I'm currently watching videos from the Elite Alpha just because of the sound. I think that there's some irony in this situation.

Since the update my game is far more stable, the aweful cracking noise in the vicinity of a Star (Nav point) has gone even in combat (Mostly). Coupled with the latest NVIDIA drivers my game is running close to what it did in the Beta days (Smooooth).
