Sure. I'd say it's 50 they fear it'll harm ship sales, 50 they don't have the server, database, [insert whatever fancy named - but actually pretty common in most multiplayer based devs - tech] backbones ready.

I honestly don’t think they have the talent,and why would they?
We’ve all watched this play out and can see it for what it is. A really talented dev wouldn’t touch it.
So the pool of developers you can employ are the desperate ones or more worryingly the ones who are fans of Star Citizen!

The temptation there is of course to get on board as a junior dev and show them something that you came up with over your lunch breaks that actually provides the backend and platform that will fix the game :)

The problem there is that Genuine Roberts will get his mitts all over your flexible, scaleable architecture and break it into a thousand mocapped cutscenes because “fidelity” :(

The way it is is already harming ship sales...sure, they sell a few of the bigger items to the orgs and the whaley boi completionists who must have everything..but even the orgs pool resources and buy ships in game to give to their members..and all for nothing at every patch wipe. It's hurting orgs more than Joe casuals like me with a few bits and pieces. They can gift a Caterpillar to some org Joe-Schmoe but they won't ever see the return for doing it.

Ci¬G know that if persistence is forever put aside, next year there won't be that many left to continue supporting a project that remains as a storefront for JPG sales and not much else. We're all getting to the point now where the questions are being put forward direct to the devs and managers in video Q&A sessions like the last Inside SC..."How about you add some gameplay and persistence instead of ships?..."

I was surprised they even answered the question...with Chad McKinney offering some insight as a programmer and not just a department head making noises.

As ever, we'll see what happens...if anything at all.

They have to know how far behind the competition they are,they are failing to overcome the technical issues involved in making this sort of game,they even admitted they couldn’t add any more assets as the engine is at its limits.
CR is awol with accusations of poor management and a tendency to pay himself too much.
If you’re in the business of making games you have to at some point deliver a game.

Who are they behind?

A few randoms on a quiet server made up a sort of HH crew last night. One Portugese, 2 UK, a Norwegian, an Orkney Islander and a Berliner...sounds like the beginning of a joke somehow...We did a few escorts for a guy in a Caterpillar...attacked a drug den...killed some pirates and some UEE navy ships at Kareah..then a bit of random flying around Hurston in the Valkyrie. A good night on the SC servers as things go and made some new friends for the contacts list. I was in the rear turret in case you were wondering why the pics are upside down, just had to get that screenie of the HH shadow over the drug den...

Gotta say you do paint a picture of a generally coop gameplay when you meet randoms. Unlike ED where 90% of people in open run away screaming ganker if you open coms with them.
Or is it just misery loves a friend to convince each other that there is gameplay :p

Just my honest experience in the PU generally. With the live chat going, folks asking questions, others giving advice and help, very little in the way of gameplay loops to offer distraction, it leaves it up to players to invent their own gameplay to a large extent...it also offers a more inclusive style of play than would be expected.

Don't get me wrong, players are continually frustrated by game breaking bugs, missing features and completely broken mission systems but we can always improvise, bring a few folk together via the live chat for a meet and greet and head off to do something or other. It's certainly not unique but more common in SC than erstwhile detractors would have you believe...the PU is quite a friendly place over all...most folks in live chat are randoms since the big orgs and organised groups tend to shut themselves off on discord or Teamspeak for their stuff, they usually join in the chat now and then answering questions from newbies as we all do but don't turn up for random meets as much if they're doing org stuff.

Antother night of a couple of random folk meeting up via the chat...

You seem to be saying that SC's best gameplay feature is it's lack of gameplay. You're not selling it to me.

When everything you try in game has no point due to patch wipes, basic mission systems are broken beyond any sense in trying them...folks improvise. There are some regular inhabitants...and we all have to be a bit cracked to join in this project in the first place...but in a general sense again...if it wasn't that much fun or engaging to any extent, we wouldn't be there doing it most nights.

The live chat is the key. Rather than being...or feeling... isolated through choice or being new, the chat binds each server in a social sense and makes SC quite bearable at times :)

I'm by choice usually a solo player, but in SC due to helping newer players a lot in the PU, I tend to be more sociable than I would be in other games. As for selling it to you or anyone else...that's not my job, I simply remark on the sometimes good and mostly awful bits of it I encounter during my attempts to play it :D

I find that I’m always on chat, teaming up doing missions and such! Yesterday we teamed up to do the FPS missions. We loaded the gray cat onto my titan and landed 1K away, took the Gray cat in and cleared the area. We did this for a bit, then some Bounty Hunting!

The titan is a fun little ship, I changed from the 300 series.

Tonight I think I’m going to run cargo in the 600i.

jmp!

You keeping jumping past my posts :/

Have you managed to get that 890J hangar to play nice? Used it for any co-op play?

Inquiring minds want to know like ;)

I’m sorry, I don’t mean too. The best I could do was in the PTU. I used the 325a as a run about and kept it at an OM. It worked 100% of the time.

I did not buy the $890 890j package and I’m kicking myself for not buying it! As having the hangar added some great time sinks. Meaning, it really didn’t add anything to game loops, except my enjoyment of flying the 890j and leaving it in my smaller ship.

While I didn’t buy the 890, i probably will when/if it’s offered again. In the mean time I’m preparing my game play to have the larger carrier ship. For instance, I upgraded my base mustang to the Titan, which I’ve been truly enjoying.
My ships will be (similar to ED, actually)
Titan -> Cobra mkIII
600i -> Python
890 -> Cutter

Ah ok that's cool. I misread your prior post anyway and thought you'd actually bought it :D

So it carried the hangar ship fine then? (But you had issues with persistence after log off no?)
