"The Stones"

I guess one interesting question is why the Thargoid ship crashed. They could just be bad pilots and occasionally crash (happens to the best of us!), but it seems extremely unlikely that it was related to human activity.

Which would mean that a Thargoid was shot down, perhaps, by another Thargoid.

Or it is not crash at all.
We do not known how they are build they structures. But central part of it pretty aligned with center part of the ships so. May be bad attempt to seed structure?

LS 37.20 - Bruce - "Theres one piece of information or detail that the whole story sort of points to that no-one has really commented on which is quite surprising in terms of what the whole story mean for the history of Elite and the in game lore. Thats a bit more of a clue than Arthur gave at the time but I wont say anymore than that...."

Working through it. This quote is before the response to @Thatchinho and what led up to it.

Well, regarding the lore I had the impression since the beginning that what is happening may not be related to Thargoids only. Could it be that Thargoids were carrying something alien... but for them as well? Are the EMI-like interference and the mind control-like effects something that is common with Thargoids?
My two cents are that the Thargoid ship crashed for the same reason the human ship had problems. The alien object that the cage could not contain/shield. And that someone probably took back in the period non covered by the logs?
Pushing this forward: can the object be related to Harold Duval assassination? Was the assassin/saboteur under mind-control by means of alien technology derived from the Object?

Am I completely gone or the reasoning may work? :D :D

I'm not really lored up but just from what I can pick up on here the most distinctive aspect to me seems to be "a private company having knowledge of Thargoid existence in 3111"?
Bear in mind that it’s just a list of things off the top of my head in the stream, and it was in response to FD saying there was one thing. So while the list’s accurate you probably shouldn’t read into it being a final and definitive list from which FD are saying that one particular point is the correct one.

I still want to know about that other megaship that's already found where everyone went crazy due to some electrical mumbojumbo over the intercom. Probably not related, but that's a cool story nonetheless.

I wonder if there's some sort of human/goid hybrid storyline incoming as well.

That is a good question. Maybe it crashed for the same reason the ghost ship was damaged. Thargoids found something, picked it up, it destroyed them, then humans found it in thargoids cargo.

Ok check this out.

Two factions of Thargoids, one maybe using humanity as a shield from the other. So just maybe this Thargoid was shot down by another.

Pretty sure that 'human signal' is some bug. I managed to get within 2 kms of it the other day, it was under the surface inside of a mountain. That was the 2nd time I encountered it, first time I was in orbital flight and it was moving with me, couldn't get close to it.

is there any online version that will translate numbers & characters into / from same? I either end up with 'code' for a computer or they all simple letter subsitutions, I have a lot of 'keywords' and 'numbers' to try but nowhere to try them? I could list a few in a spoiler for anybody to try maybe?

The problem with all the online versions I found is that they only use A-Z as the alphabet. It seems likely that the LP message alphabet includes .+-: and space.
When I started it looked like it might be a simple cipher but just with those characters added into the mix. But it doesn't seem so.

At this point, I think it probably can't be decoded without knowing the encryption algorithm and key.

I'm disappointed in this puzzle. I got together with a couple friends on the weekend to try to solve it by avoiding spoilers, but it doesn't seem like it can be solved by individual players following the clues and instead it requires a mass search effort which basically mean that most players can only just read about the solution in the forums (which is what we ended up doing). Which is just not very interesting.

To be honest, the frequency analysis a lot of us tried earlier on was very unpromising. A string of ~185 characters should be long enough for it work reliably, even with a 35 character "alphabet".
It’s not long. And the plain text is most likely not regular English, containing system names / coordinates and whatnot. Frequency analysis won’t work.

It's possible it could be a Vigenere cipher with a custom grid, where the punctuation allows room for a few capital letters in a string that's mostily lower case. It is possible to crack such keys using character frequency and period analysis. Frequency analysis doesn't always produce a perfect key, but chances are you will get enough characters correct to start seeing a message, if you understand how Vinegere works and move through it one char at a time after finding the period...
