I read a quote from David Braben somewhere that there will be at least 3 sentient races in the game at some point, whether that includes the Thargoids it didn't say. I'm hoping that Trumbles make a return too. :D

Are those the ones that covered your screen?... And you had to burn them off near a star?... So much I've forgotten...

Those were the critters, they bred like Jeremy Kyle viewers filling your cargo hold and your cockpit obscuring visibility and instruments.... :D

There is part of me screaming come on get the thargoids in - while another part of me is yelling I'm going to die if thargoids are in - and still wanting it. I still remember the "OH ****" as you were pulled out of/into witch space to fight a valiant battle - which in my case meant dying. Brilliant.

Oh yes definititely! I don't want to see any news about Thargoids being introduced.... We need to be taken completely by surprise by those suckers!

+1 to both of you. There's a lot of permit systems in deep space, would be good if explorers got random first encounters then eventually news starts spreading.... unconfirmed sitings on something mysterious of the Galnet news etc.... make it a slow build up.

I hope they remain NPCs as well, I know some people want to play as Thargoids (or in their ships) but DB says he wants them to be scary and the fear factor would disappear if we knew there was a player sitting behind a keyboard RPing a Thargoid. I hope they redesign their ships as well to look intimidating and unnatural compared to human ships.

I'm interested to see where they take the story and wonder when they'll implement them. Not just from a completion point of view but the overall narrative arch. There's currently a boiling up with the Empire and Fed and I have a feeling they're setting up in-fighting within the factions (battle for succession) which could end up being full scale war between them. It'd make sense pace wise for the Thargoids to come in during or after that.

Back Story for Thargoids

So - we have a CMDR in deep deep space (Erimus)
Why not have the Thargoids have an encounter with him and that prompt them coming to Fed Space?

I'd like to see it possible to do tech/plans smuggling deals with the Thargoids as a prelude to invasion. Even the chance of obtaining a Thargoid ship for services rendered.

Thargoid Homeward?

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-birmingham-31002598

Is it just me that thinks playing ED has warped my appreciate for celestial distances?

The above system is 117LY away from Sol which is a huge distance but my brain no longer thinks so.

My brain keeps saying 117LY is only about 20 minutes away in a Cobra and less in an Asp or something. Either way, mighty close in the grand scheme!

Edit: Title should read "Thargoid Homeworld?". Damn predictive text!

Thargoids! 1950s Sci Fi material.

I don't think the name "Thargoids" has made the test of times.

It sounds dated and something taken straight out of a 1950s sci-fi movie. (Not that this is bad - but it does not fit the ED universe in 2015 - imho)

I know there is a lot of Lore and nostalgia connected to the name....but I really think it should be called someting else. "Thargoids" could be the nickname....but not the actual latin name given.

What do you think?

Why would an extraterrestrial race be given a latin name?

Thargoids are going to kick your butt for trying to change their name. Just saying.

''Thargoids'' would mean ''Something that is similar to Tharg'', right?
So the real question is - what is the ''Tharg'' that is similar to Thargoids?
