The Thargoid is already in the game, currently disguised as luxury traders buying performance enhancers to supply their massive bug army... And most of you are selling to them.. All hail the Thargoid overlords!

What Do You Want?

I know there is a lot of Lore and nostalgia connected to the name....but I really think it should be called someting else. "Thargoids" could be the nickname....but not the actual latin name given.

What do you think?

What do I think?
Well your correct, "Thargoids" are not their actual name. Their real name is over 10,000 letters long and there is a gentleman here who would like to speak to you on behalf of his........"associates"

Yeah, but you want to turn him upside down and shake him to see if those bead things make a different pattern...

As all loyal Squaxx dek Thargo know, the 'beads' are in fact the Rosette of Sirius - a highly useful sub-space communicator.

I think I should be worried that I didn't have to look that up...

Splundig Vur Thrigg!

Not even in the game yet and there's already a thread complaining about the name. Some people have way too much spare time.... Could we at least keep the moaning to stuff that already exists?

Personally I do not think they will be in the game for quiet some time.

The next few big updates should be just about expanding on game features; wings/formations being the next big thing. Mining should also get a good overhaul at some point in time.

Thargoids will need a large chunk of development, as it will require lots of new ships, stations & weapons effects. Basically artwork stuff. I'm sure it's down the pipeline, but it would be one of the later 'major' patches, if not, a 'purchase required' 'expansion' altogether.

Thargoids should be a slow burn intro. First encounter should be ships being attacked in witch space and a fight with FA forced off. Should be quick and vicious and we should loose. Then or maybe before outposts on the edge of civilisation should be found destroyed or abandoned. Make it spooky. String it out over months. Then normal interdictions. At this point we need to have the ability to salvage hulls. We could then be able to identify the culprits. A cool move by FD would be to have a splinter Thargoid group causing the problem. Depending upon player commanders work to identify and spot the differences and or attack the wrong Thargoids would have an impact on how the war develops. Then Thargoid conflict zones should open up but this will need to be worked out. This would be the raid encounters that some have been asking for, but systems close to the Thargoid homes could have hundreds of conflict zones. with motherships spewing Tharglets at you.

The Tships seem to be antigravity ships compared to our reaction mass drives so they can turn on a dime and jink. They will be a challenge. Those with good FA off skills will do well and i think most of us will get pwned under those circumstances. I would time it to happen at the end of an Empire-Federation conflict. When the looser is perceived as weak. or towards the end of a civil war. Imagine heading for a system on the front line where there are capital ships from Feds and Imps duking it out. then suddenly you are pulled into witch spaces and can't control the ship like you expect and you have two or three thargoid ships attacking you. You will hit the forum and be near hysterical! But who will believe you? Until next week it happens to someone else... and so on....When would the community believe you unless you have video that is....

That is how i would run the Thargoid return. Then monitor the reaction from the community and have a couple of counter attacks but maybe settle into a cool war with a DMZ. Then you could flare it up again depending on incursion success or not. Or run missions to broach peace treaties. The only problem is if the Thargoids get hammered by the community. A possibility. Pinned back or maybe wiped out except for refugees here and there. Would take time, but not sure how to run that option. But doubt FD would let that happen.

Whenever they put them in, I hope they're not going to be some crap random encounter that are a little bit more difficult than normal AI.

The thargoids need to be done well. I mean really well.

No early easter egg stuff, I hope. When they arrive, they need to be mind blowing.

No, the Hauler may not have Thargoids in it, but fore sure has species coming from the company name.

The Hauler, made by Zorgon Peterson Corporation and has been reported by many commanders to have had an eerie noise while flying. Many claim it is Thargoids, however it is not. Another commander believes it is another alien race coming from the first name of the company. Do you know what that means? That's right...ZORGONS!!

The Thargoid infestation is on its way and we as pilots will have to deal with there attacks into our space. From what I remember they live in hyperspace, but I just hope they drop in for tea ad I have some guns waiting to say HELLO MR/MRS THARGOID!

Suitable for Thargoid Life

From one of the earlier gamma patchnotes, I remember something about them fixing an error when scanning authored ammonia worlds - Fix an issue with classifying authored ammonia worlds.

Now, the only reason I can think of why they are explicitly authored are because of the Thargoids, but has anyone seen many of these? Of course, we don't see a 'suitable for terraforming for Thargoids' tag, so we don't know the habitable zones, but do ammonised atmosphere terrestrial planets seem even rarer than the Earth-like terrestrial ones?

I found a planet (I think) with ammonia based life. Didn't seem special or out of the ordinary for any of the other life based entities
