The time for new Operations missions is now

We're well into the second month of Operations and I gotta say things are getting a bit stale mission-wise. And new things to spend Merc Coin on would be nice.

I think it take a good bit of time to write the mission story and do the graphics. Late December early 2027
will be my guess.

Even then player's will just speed rush through them.

I'm skeptical we will get any soon, if ever. We know how Frontier work by now: I remember the hype about "Scenarios", released in 2018 with four of them.
Eight years later, we have four of them.

Frontier are never going to rule out the possibility of future additions, but I doubt they have a secret backlog of good Operations ideas they just didn't have time to implement.

Maybe eventually we get Thargoid operations, but also Thargoids are kind of a big deal and doing that could signal the absolute death of those storylines? Who knows

Genuinely been too busy hauling for the CGs to do any operations for the last week, so quite looking forward to jumping back in to them.

New stuff always welcome though, but I'm gessing ti will be later in the year/early next year with the 'feature reboot' next up.

Also - where did the T-10 generals go in "terminal prosecution"? They were awesome.
Always been the Conda. T10 appears in Tactical Takedown (have fun “solving” that Spam rockets or else holdout section which nobody playtested… enough?… on Hard) for your disco ball needs.

Do not facetank him on hard unless you are in a large ship with appropriate shield cell banks.

The time for on-foot Thargoids in operations is now. :alien:
Absolutely 100% yes. Space Hulk / Starcraft / Aliens / Starship Troopers / Edge of Tomorrow / Halo / Warhammer 40k / All of the above...

Broken megaship (strange caustic scarring on the hull... hmmm) with mood lighting, hordes of hive-mind gribblies suddenly swarming through the apparently deserted facility... limited ammunition... a small squad of hopelessly outnumbered but plucky, wisecracking ne'er do wells...

Surely this has to be the next group of ops, with some additional, juicy installation-based space AX CZ stuff to supplement it? Or maybe bring back a limited AX surface station CZ as an op, and add a ground-based on-foot surface station AX op as well?

Large AX co-op was easily the most fun content I've engaged with in Elite, and the burning station op definitely leans in to the awesomeness of the original thargoid-related station rescues. If AX ops could be made doable for relatively inexperienced players (like the surface AX CZs were), this could be incredible. Also - those ops will need to give the relevant AX-engineering and AX unlock materials, so that all players can get involved.

While we're on the subject of fun new op ideas - how about a "fleet action" style space encounter, versus 4 generals in a kind of 4v4 PvP style? A Cutter, Conda, Corvette and a T-10, say, all at the same time and initially in the same place. 4 well built (meta) generals at the same time would be an interesting challenge, especially if they also get to have regen beams... :)

The next operations related update should focus on fixing bugs and improving the connection. If the devs have additional time (haha) then they can add more missions.
It would not help the mode to have more missions with issues.
Once the main bugs are fixed, FD can focus on variety

It's hard to imagine FD will follow through with the additional operations. Typically they will fix the most glaring issues and be working on the next thing by this point.

Biohazard Takedown is still quite broken, as well as other ops having some major issues, forcing a checkpoint reset or outright failure. More ops would be good (including solo ops for the day when finding a team is like getting a CQC match), but the ones we have need fixing first.

No it's not. This game would be dead by now if they did not follow trough on things...

Biohazard Takedown is still quite broken
Reminding me how I was going to run it on Hard for the weekly bonus last night... despite knowing it is my most-disliked operation for being possibly the worst offender of near-constant flood of neverending bullet sponge enemies. Get to the data room ok, then have another reminder why I hate it when 20 near-instakill enemies [when there are that many of them in one tiny place it is basically like getting instakilled if they shoot you] try to flood through the doorway at the front, all at once, into a small room with barely any cover, because that's fun (no it isn't, and it's basically a "Do you like rockets, no, too bad" check, hardly any skill involved in that).

Then I decide to follow the example of my other two teammates to just get killed instead of try to fight my way out and back to the elevators because it's frankly far less painful (and I had about 1%HP left with no medkits)... and the game gets perma-stuck in a black screen where I can hear me use the menu after trying, but nothing ever happens and no respawn occurs either. Force quit, restart, don't bother playing Biohazard Torture again. Not on Hard, anyway. Haven't encountered other issues though, besides a random hard-crash to desktop on that operation.

Not adding more scenarios will only guarantee the mode goes the way of CQC, outside of occasional casual playing or dedicated coin grinders/module completionists, though. Also could we have more Python II or Corsair spawns than just the ones with some pulse lasers and other weapons (Python II, with exception of the pacifier spawn in Tactical Takedown... which only actually shoots at you on Hard difficulty) or plasma accelerators and railguns for the Corsair? Said Corsairs are also ridiculously aimbotty with those PAs beyond any reasonable degree.

I have a similar impression of FD.
They release a new feature but if it is not instantly a success, they seem to abandon it instead of putting effort into it to improve it. Even if the feature was promising but released in an unfinished and barebone state.
In some cases the improvements come years later, but then it is maybe too late.

If the time for new Operations is when you're bored of them, the next time for newer Operations will be when you're bored of those. I don't imagine that it's the fact that there are less than ten of them that bores anybody in particular, so the issue lies elsewhere. Could this be addressed in the supposed balance phase? Perhaps. But gorging on new content past the point of it being gainful or enjoyable speaks to something else, as well.
