The "to hell with it i ordered CV1 anyway" post

After the initial shock and contemplation, I pre ordered it. Since I took so long to decide I am now in the "May 2016" shipping window. Guess I should have decided sooner. Grand total came out to $629. I feel really bad for you guys in the EU with the expensive shipping and taxes :( . Well, at least I still have my DK2 to hold me over until May. Still a little shocked about the price having just bought a 980ti for VR and now I think I will probably have to upgrade again when the new Pascal gpu's get released this year.

I'm in as well - just ordered.

and yeah... it's £530 for something that *might* not even support ED properly(Although, given that they have until APRIL to get it done, I don't see why not....)

Add £260 for a new i7 4790K Devil's Canyon CPU, and £450 for an MSI Frozr GTX 980 to replace my weary (!) GTX 670...

and to top it off, I bought Horizons this afternoon.

All that, and I'm still "Mostly Harmless" :D

I must be certifiable...

E : D has been the killer app for the DK2 and it has been my only reason to pre-order the Rift CV1 today. Well, I don't mind... if E : D won't run, I'll get rid of both. Would be nice if Frontier could confirm their support or missing support early in order to save other players from spending so much money... and a major letdown.

Regards,
Rhombus

I for one am excited after ordering, also have faith Frontier will get ED fixed up in time for CV1 landing on doorsteps.

Cant wait. 40 years old and feel like a kid ha!

i think with that price tag there will be alot of spouse arguments, i know i will have one tonight when i get home and asks me how much it was and sence we share a joint account, i can`t hide it from her either..

You don't get charged until it ships, so you have a few months to come up with a good story. Good luck.

I just bought my wife a more expensive Christmas present (SLR lens), so I should be OK. I got my order 8 minutes in, and got the March ship date, but honestly, shipping starts March 28th, so not too big a difference to April.

My order is in, April delivery. I can't believe Frontier won't make ED run on it, but I'll just play Eve Valkyrie until it's fixed if worst comes to worst. Thank whoever runs the Universe that I have a DK2 or I'd be going frantic with the anticipation from now til April.

April delivery for me. Took 25 minutes of spamming F5 and then had the problems with cc not accepting.
Still, I get 3 months before shipping to decide whether or not to keep it.
My Dk2 will keep me going until then.

Add me to the "the hell with it" list. Shipping date May. Will cancel if:
- FD don't get ED working with it (unlikely I know)
- the Vive turns out to be better (based on owner reviews etc.)
- the Vive turns out to be £700 upwards
- I demo it and spew chunks due to motion sickness, not only embarrassing myself but getting barred from all future gaming festivals

I may well cancel if FD do not update us closer to the date.

I would guess that FD won't have Rift support until after the units are out in the wild, so that might not be the best plan (i.e. you cancel before release, and then 3 weeks into April, FD update ED to suit, and you're now at the back of a 6 month queue).

Is that because FD doesn't have access to required dev.-resources and needs a CV1 for implementing compatibility?

No idea, but until FD can test on the actual device, there'd be no point releasing anything.

Even if they did, they don't ship the first units till the 28th March, so there's not exactly a huge rush.

I'm in Australia. As soon as I clicked on Australia the price moved from $599 to $650.
...anyone know if the pricing actually shifted to Australian dollars?

I've logged a support query with Occulus to confirm. Their FAQ says local currency may be supported but it doesn't specify anywhere which local currency or if my order switched currencies from USD to AUD once I selected the correct country.

Very frustrating....

Doubt it seeing that $599 US is about $850 AUD.

For the price of a half decent LED TV? Yep definitely having one, I'll be getting the HTC Vive and probably using that as my main unit, the CV1 can go to guests when shared cockpits roll out.
